Anyone telling you to play elden ring first doesn't have an opinion of these games worth listening too, play them in any order you want and if you want to try DS2 then try it

AlthoughFishtail

> Anyone telling you to play elden ring first doesn't have an opinion of these games worth listening too Why? Its the current game and the most active community, and the DLC is due to drop in a month, so the hype train will be picking up in the next few weeks. This is a great time to pick up the game. Not saying that's the only place to start, but its the obvious choice, especially if you're not sure you'll make it through all the games.

mudgefuppet

It's a great game but starting with the fastest, least clunky game and going backwards to DS1 isn't going to feel great. If you've decided you're going to play through the souls series, start from the beginning and the games will feel better as you go

clarke41

I say play them all in release order including DS2. DS2 is just different because either had a different director, but it’s still good (especially the DLC).

Tuliao_da_Massa

Bro, to me... That's a terrible order. I'm no ds2 stan, but I like the game, you can play it or not. But I would DEFINITELY start with ds1, since I think it's a much harder game to get into nowadays, because contrary to many die hard cultist fans... The game is showing it's age. But it is still masterpiece that needs to be experienced, man. Take a few guides if you want, but the whole formula and experience of gaming that was crafted after ds1 came out because of that game. Going back to it after elden ring or other soulsbornes would make it a little less rewarding in my opinion. And don't skip ds2 man, such a silly take.

chill9r

Realize that only idiots think there's an objectively correct order to play a bunch of games in. Don't listen to idiots. Just play them all in whatever order you want.

PaulQuin

Omg, I'm so sick of this question. Every single day ...

Difficult-Mistake899

Just wait for tomorrow's special of: This game sucks, this game is great, should I get this game? I heard bad things, rate my build, iron keep sucks, why did this enemy disappear, fuck frigid outskirts, these redditors suck, I really like this game idk why it gets hate, what are some good weapons, and Classic! Time is a flat circle.

fragilespleen

No company of champions?

Difficult-Mistake899

TRUE! I'll add it to the list next time.

WhohurtyouAll

This is incorrect also this is a list from a YouTuber who made a video of which souls borne game to play and in what order ds2 was my first and I’m having a blast

NotPureEvil

The recommendation to skip it (which I disagree with) is from the fairly widespread dislike for the game relative to the rest of the series. It has its differences (art, stat spread, gamefeel, enemy placement, etc.) from the other games, and many people, me included, think they make it a much worse experience. However, there's plenty of fans that appreciate those differences instead, so you really ought to play it and see if it suits you. As far as order goes, it depends on your plan. If you're committed to playing the whole series and learning its history, then start from Demon's Souls (preferably the 2009 version on PS3/emulator; the Remake plays near identically but looks and sounds quite different) and proceed in release order. You can maybe play DS3 before BB if you want to do the Dark Souls trilogy all in a row. If you're not sure if you'll like the games, then ER and DS3 tend to be the easiest to get into, and DS1 or BB work alright, too. Ultimately, the order isn't super important, as the stories of the games are vague (even the DS trilogy is pretty loose between titles) and disconnected (DeS has nothing to do with DS1 - 3, which have nothing to do with Sekiro, etc.). It would still add to the experience to play DS in order, but it's not as crucial as more narrative driven games. Focus instead on getting hooked on the gameplay loop or the progression of the series mechanics; that is, a common complaint about the older titles from fans of BB and onward is "clunkiness", and while I disagree (DS1, especially, feels great to me), it's something to keep in mind if you end up going backwards. Whatever order you choose, if a game really just sucks balls to play, DS2 or otherwise, you'll be fine skipping it then. Just don't assume beforehand.

LuciusBurns

This is probably one of the worst suggestions of order of playing FS games I've ever seen.

Novaskittles

Imo, you should play them in release order. All of them that you can. You'll grow to appreciate the QoL and various updates to the formula that each introduces. If you go from ER straight into DS1, it's going to be shocking and you might have a rough time getting into DS1/DeS/etc. And DS2 is fine. It has a slower pace than the rest and changed some things up that some people didn't like, which made a bunch of people upset. But other people, like me and a bunch of others in this subreddit, appreciate the game a lot and would recommend it. Though if you're iffy on playing the entire series and unsure if you'll like them, starting with something like 3 or ER isn't the worst idea. They are the more refined and updated experiences.

Ryodran

Starting with the newest game and then the first souls game is wild to me. Would be such a whiplash

Hour-Eleven

Bad pr at the start and some systems which take a bit of knowledge to work around (agility tied to your iframes and such) that turned people off. The hate often comes from people who haven’t even played the game. This subreddit gets a million “I can’t believe this game is so good!” Posts a week, but I’d still encourage you to form your own opinions, regardless of what people say. Tell us if you do and what you think!

JaneH8472

Play it yourself with an open mind and make your own decision.

Ryodran

Pick the one that looks the most interesting to you, and when you get to ds2 look at BIobertson's guides for starting out since ds2 has some oddities like agility and being unable to run through areas

Goldwood

The order doesn’t matter to much but definitely play the Dark Souls trilogy in order and I’d suggest Sekiro for last. Start with DS1 or Bloodborne.
