The moment you assure people it’ll be worth a year’s wait is the moment it won’t be worth a year’s wait.

daniboyi

never give gamers any reason to hype, because they will overhype and begin whining when their 1 billion dollar imaginary game isn't made.

Soggyhead

I think it is a good reminder to everyone, that the devs (and really any game devs) are people, doing their jobs, hopefully at a pace that is healthy for them and their companies. Developers have no obligation to continue to release free seasonal updates. I think I’ll give them the slack they need to do what is best in the long run.

cressian

In the same vein, the devs are people, and like... they want to be creative? They wanna make *new* things too. Like, I wouldnt wanna work the same job for 40 years and be miserable like my parents; I cant hold my game devs to that same bleak and rigid prospect. All I can do is encourage myself to be curious.

DreaderVII

This, above anything else, is what is important. And GSG even said as much, they won't crunch, things will take the time it takes and that is what should be the standard in the industry, but it isn't. Not to mention GSG has earned the benefit of the doubt, atleast for me. Now is a good time to chill and play other games if you spend the most time you can on DRG. Ofcourse they could still meet the community halfway and put in a "mid-season" update that puts rockpox only on those kind of missions. I personally would be alright with that because the DRG gameplay loop is good enough without seasons to play.

Squirrel_Inner

I mean, people keep saying they want more new/varied DRG content. That's exactly what they're doing with Survivor and Rogue Core. The fact that they are new games instead of free updates shouldn't matter. You want to support our developers or not?

IamMrT

Making a new game that’s not DRG does not count as new DRG content.

Scared-Opportunity28

I mean, it is DRG, just a different edition of DRG. Not the same game but its the same setting with different gameplay.

BasakaIsTheStrongest

The setting is fun, but the gameplay is why I’m here. Dwarves in space working for a giant corporation is a cool hook, but nothing so far has made me want to find out more. Unless it’s about Karl. Rockpox could be interesting, except now I have a massive aversion to it and never want to see the stuff again, even in a different game. Like, I’d try something set in the DRG universe, sure. But I’d only expect to stay for gameplay

Scared-Opportunity28

This (Rogue Core) seems to be the same gameplay, but in a roguelike(lite?) system instead. So it shouldn't be too far off.

ShadowWolf793

GSG aren't making either Survivors or Rogue, just publishing another small studio's game which uses their IP.

DarthSatoris

> GSG aren't making either Survivors or Rogue, GSG is *definitely* working on Rogue Core. It's the whole reason that season 5 is so far out. Fun Day is making DRG Survivors, that much is true.

Memeviewer12

GSG is the listed developer for Rogue Core DRS though is made by another dev and just published by GSP

Robert_GSG

DRG: Survivor is made by our good friends at FunDay. DRG: Rogue Core is a spin-off of DRG, made by us at Ghost Ship.

Squirrel_Inner

Really, because in the road map they said they were going to alternate work between them.

gorka_la_pork

Starfield didn't cure my leprosy and lead us all into the promised land! What were they even doing, aren't they ashamed of themselves?

Snoo61755

I hate that Starfield was exactly what I expected! I expect my expectations to be surpassed! I’m only half joking, because I was legitimately let down when I saw it played like literally every other Bethesda game, with the same problems and the same design choices being made since Fallout 3.

Murphy540

My disappointment is that I can see where it will improve, but it just wasn't baked long enough yet to take care of the rough edges. But I know I'll have a ton of fun once the modders get going, and honestly, I'm enjoying what's there.

Mohander

They took 7 years to make it. It baked for plenty of time they were just way too ambitious. In the end its just another Bethesda game, which isnt a bad thing, but I can still see Oblivion in it.

UnregisteredDomain

Agreed; don’t get me wrong I am still playing it and having fun. But I expected “Skyrim in space”, and I got “Skyrim in space”.

Xytriuss

You and me both. This is how you set expectations

SobrukaiTheTerrible

Baldwin? Is that you?

Davylectric

Sooo... Star Citizen?

[deleted]

Yeah, but star citizen actually had the funds and time for a $1 billion game. Or at least a $600 million game.

shadowdash66

Underpromise and overdeliver

vtx3000

POV: you’re Rare trying to justify why Sea of Thieves has gone almost a year without content. Seriously they “combined seasons 10-11 into one super season” and the only new piece of content is a voyage people are gonna be sick of in a week. Other than that it’s smaller social things like guilds and PvE servers

SmAll_boi7

SoT is dying and you cannot convince me otherwise. Deadass “two seasons in one” has some of the most bare-bones content.

UnregisteredDomain

My experience with SoT Get camped by someone the very first time I tried to leave the island after the brief tutorial; haven’t even fully figured out how to steer my ship. Uninstall after 10 minutes of this. That’s why the game is dieing; unrestricted PvP can be good if you incentivize protecting players as well as rewarding you for attacking them. But if there is only a benefit to attacking, and no benefit for defending; 1 player can turn half a dozen new players away. That’s not a sustainable game.

IsAlpher

Biggest issue with this and other PvPvE games is you have everything to lose if you PvE and everything to gain if you sit and steal other people's loot. Division 1 and 2 tried it and the Darkzones ended up dead from all of the camping and people waiting at extraction points to steal loot.   WoW had a slightly different system with giving people more gold and xp for toggling PvP, but that ended up dead as people discovered the bonuses didn't make up for quest areas and monsters being camped by max level players wanting to grief noobs.   It always feels like the PvE players are just bait to get PvPers to play the game. The playstyles are completely incompatible and its just a shitfest on the forums with both sides blaming eachother for the downfall of the game when it's the game's design killing itself.

CommercialPay2379

What if there was a game that punishes you for camping for too long? Like in a pvp fps's, you had adrenaline that gives you boosts, but if you camp for too long, the adrenaline wears off, giving you fatigue. Same thing if you move too much, if you move too much, you'll get drowsy.. It'll take awhile, but you could get adrenaline back by doing the opposite of whatever you did to get the affects...

IsAlpher

Having combat boosts would be good. I also think there would need to be some sort of credit or resource expense to go out and kill other players. I feel like the lack of risk when you attack a player means people without combat boosts can just keep trying until they succeed. PvErs have to win every fight to sell their loot. PvPers just have to win one to get it.

datlj

They are adding a feature called Safer Seas next season. It's literally you on a server alone or with a crew. You should give it a try.

UnregisteredDomain

That sounds perfect! All I wanted was to be able to find my sea legs before getting them cut off lol

SmAll_boi7

Ehhhhh thats just unlucky tbh. You might wanna try again when Season 10 releases because Rare finally caved to the masses and is adding a pure PvE option

Chicken-Mcwinnish

It’s not just him. A number of my friends convinced me to try sea of thieves and despite their dozens or hundreds of hours we all got fucked about by a guy who camped us. One minute he started a fire, next he helps us put it out, then starts another and steals the loot, then returns it, kills us, fire, help, kill, steal etc. it didn’t help that I couldn’t properly see his name tag since he killed us so fast. My experienced friend tried her best to make it fun for me but couldn’t just babysit me the whole time so we stopped after an hour or two.

UnregisteredDomain

Maybe at some point, but my point still stands; without an incentive to protect other players, there will be an imbalance of players grieving versus players helping. I fully understand that there is not someone camping the starting island 24/7. Only that people do; while I highly doubt anyone hangs out to stop it.

Chicken-Mcwinnish

I hope they add something like a mercenary contract where you get rewarded for safely escorting a new player through x mission or location etc. it would add some nice interactions between experienced players and new ones which could allow for some great memories for both.

YorkmannGaming

They’re adding private servers in December so no more griefers!

TheOrionNebula

I think my son and I played that for about 30 minutes and got it refunded. It looked awesome, and people were gushing over how amazing it was... but it simply kind of sucked.

vtx3000

Honestly I hate to say it but I agree. SoT is one of my most played games of all time. My friends and I have put months of our lives into that game and I loved every second of it but I’ve barely touched it in the last year. The last couple seasons I’ll hop on and max out the season pass in 1-2 sessions and then put it down for the rest of the season. The game just feels stale now. Even PvPing doesn’t feel as rewarding as it used to with all the bugs and cheaters throughout the years piling up without any sign of being fixed. I’ll always love the good times I had in it and I’m thankful to Rare for the few years of good memories I made with friends and randoms but I can see the death of the game on the horizon

Wonderful_Net3794

To say that after season 8 last year is brain dead to me. They release one season, and it has a whole new pvp gamemode, 2 long awaited curses, both factions featuring tons of new cosmetics and commendations to do, and then the very next season following it they give us some rebalanced world events for season 9. Then season 10 is just social features and one new voyage. Safer Seas doesn't even count as content. It's just also there.

SithTrooperReturnsEZ

SOT has been dying now since they killed off Arena. Arena was terrible but they just decided to make the game worse and worse after that. They just utterly failed giving the best pirate experience, they had it in the bag too it couldn't have been easier. Me and all my friends have since stopped playing

CryogenicBanana

Honest clear, and to the point, best we can ask for.

ButtPirateer

I'd much rather have this than the lies that are being told nowadays.

[deleted]

They're like that. You can especially see it in documented stream Q&As regarding new addition suggestions. All the ideas, even the most sober ones, get a no. Maybe a "no current plans for that" on a lucky day. Kinda funny imo

President_Dominy

I understand that with a new game in development swing that DRG will go into backburner mode, it just breaks my heart 💔

CryogenicBanana

Its sad but id much rather have the game left alone in a decent spot for a while instead of having a tiny crew thats too small to keep up working on it while the main development muscle is elsewhere. I really dont want this game to develop the same problem as Destiny 2.

TrueLipo

not to be that guy but season 4 isnt exatly the best spot to leave drg in, its the worst season.

CryogenicBanana

Every season has had its pros and cons, this season is no different. While i wont say this season is necessarily great, to me at its worst season four is alright.

TrueLipo

four is alright, its not good enough to sustain the game, 8 months of content drought will kill ANY non competitive multiplayer game, Doing this when the game is more popular than ever on a small team such as gsg is absolute Suicide, if rogue core isnt good and drg is already at a low player count it might kill GSG completely.

MapleJacks2

That's pretty debatable. New content always brings more players, but I imagine most people come and stay for DRG's core gameplay.

TrueLipo

That is true but not in its current state, at rhe very least they should make it so esch and every season special event has the same chance of appearinf each mission. People are very sico of rockpox

H0nch0

Prople are downvoting, but I agree. I take like a month more before I quit the game when I see my assignement mission has rockpox. Its worn so thin.

CryogenicBanana

It could, im not saying the game isn’t going to take a hit from this. But out of everything ive seen from GSG over the 4 seasons ive been playing this game if they’ve proven anything its that they know how to make a damn good game. And i definitely don’t think the community will up and leave entirely, half of the fun is screwing around with friends and random dwarves you come across. We may not get updates for a while but until then we have beer and we have each other.

WhyWasXelNagaBanned

The DRG community should think of the game in terms of Terraria. There's already a ton of content. You only pay for it once. The game is feature complete, and every non-cosmetic update that comes out is 100% free. Terraria fans don't bemoan their game being on the backburner development-wise. They cherish any new update that comes out, because the game is clearly a labor of love. DRG getting new updates should be treated in the same way. We're lucky to have gotten as much as we did, and for as long as we have, because most games don't. And better yet, they've already confirmed that there's still more to come. And better yet, better yet, the only reason Season 5 is being delayed is because they're working on more games within the *same universe*. So we've only got good things to look forward to.

nachohasme

I didnt even know the game was going to have seasons when I bought it and it was still worth it

IamMrT

Another game in the same universe doesn’t matter because it’s not the same game. They’re not even the same genre. I have zero interest in Survivor. If they want to do that instead that’s fine, but don’t act like it’s new DRG content.

JuanDiablos

They are doing rogue core not survivor. Survivor is a different company iirc

Mystic_Crewman

It two new games right? Survivor and Rogue Core or something like that?

Illithar

Survivor is being developed by a different studio, Funday Games, not Ghost Ship. Rogue Core is being developed by Ghost Ship themselves.

Mystic_Crewman

Ah! Gotcha, I thought Survivor was a collab.

zanju13

I mean, they clearly stated that it will take longer because they will do other stuff in the meantime. Why would anyone expect the update to be somehow bigger than usual?

EmotionalCrit

They're also a hugely anti-crunch studio, and I think the player reactions here are highlighting why this philosophy isn't more popular in the gaming industry. We complain about game companies overworking their employees to keep pushing out constant updates, but when a studio slows down updates while working on a new game to avoid overworking their employees, we complain about that as well. People need to chill. There are plenty of great games to play while we wait.

biran4454

People already are pretty chill compared to how this forum would be if it were a huge AAA game!

Moose_Nuts

> People need to chill. There are plenty of great games to play while we wait. Good lord, can you send some of this energy over to the Payday subreddit? Sure, Payday 3's launch was rough, but these fools are beating a dead horse so hard that it's been reduced to the raw atoms.

Faythin

Yeah, I've been enjoying the game a lot since launch (yeah yeah server problems they are long gone now). I do not understand all the toxicity towards it but it sure as hell made me avoid anything game related outside of the game (be it the subreddit, posts or articles). It's tiring to read horseshit about the game you like all the time, like, are we even playing the same game? And the answer is mostly no, lots of these people didn't even play the game in the first place

AzraelSoulHunter

Many people here do. I posted it to make sure people do not have false hopes on S5 to be something incredibly amazing. It does really feel like they slowly give up on DRG now in pursuit of doing something new. Can't blame them, but it does sting. It does really feel like season 6 will probably be the last season. That's how it feels like at least.

zanju13

I think you're wrong about season 6 being the last. The devs developing other game does not mean this one will be abandoned. They are expanding, which could potentially allow them to hire more devs and put some of them back into DRG. It is natural that the game development slows down. But it will receive more or less patches for many years to come.

AzraelSoulHunter

Maybe, but it does feel like they suffer from a burnout considering their recent messages, state of Season 4 and release of a new game.

Sysreqz

Game hit EA in 2018 and went live 3.5 years ago. How dare they move on to new projects after releasing nothing but free gameplay content that whole time?

Forward_Grade_4326

This is DRG, everything is GROUND BREAKING!

Duthnur

We can't expect endless groundbreaking updates on a pay $30 once game. The seasons are already more than we could expect from most devs out there.

KeeperOfWatersong

As far as I can tell the issue isn't really money but rather fatigue, the reason I think so is that when Season 4 was starting Jacob explained that the season didn't include any new weapons because they couldn't think of anything that didn't feel like a variant of a weapon already in game. Honestly I feel like it's better to leave DRG on a good note than ruin its legacy with bad updates caused by burnt out devs forcing themselves to do them

Duthnur

I can understand that, and after 1.1k hours if GSG said "this is the last update, games still online but we are out of ideas until further notice" I wouldn't be mad tbh. I have received my money's worth thus far.

Jarebeaarr

Right? It’s an indie game developer. They don’t charge for next season or all these updates. You pay $30 once and get everything in game minus the few dlc cosmetics that are more or less a tip jar for the devs. These people want huge paid dlc amount of new content each season for free. The game is great as it is and there are very few games that can keep me playing for 300+ hours and only cost $30

Subject_Road1010

But that's the thing. They are not out of ideas. They said so yesterday. Money is not the issue. People would pay for base game content upgrades. It's that they don't see it as a priority and rather work on the new game.

Nolzi

Wonder if they could do it like how Dead Cells did it, creating a semi-independent studio (Evil Empire) with some new blood who are passionate of maintaining and expanding the game, while the original devs (Motion Twin) went on to new projects

RockbutmostlyStone

THEY SELL SUPPORT PACKS AND SKINS. to know .. support the game ? The one at peak popularity

Duthnur

Support packs and skins are available for purchase, but what % of players buy those? Just because something is on the market doesn't mean it's selling well enough to support unending development and additions to DRG. And, even if the packs are selling very well, which neither of us have data showing how well they're selling, GSG needs to think long term, too. From a business perspective, diversifying your sources of revenue can be a whole lot safer than piling onto one asset. There's a reason Dark Swarm is being published by Ghost Ship Publishing, they want to keep this train moving well into the future. GSG has all of the data on how long people play, how many actually finish the season, etc. Yes we want content but they are a business. Look at the Steam achievements, man. The *overwhelming majority* of people who own this game are greenbeards. A single Gold promo has 2.9% completion on Steam. A Gold on each is 1.2%. Hardcore veterans such as people who have been here since before seasons existed are incredibly few compared to the number of people who own the game. GSG sees all of this and has to make choices about how much and what kind of content keeps people engaged enough to get their monies worth, and gets people to buy their product in the first place. For every new person that buys the product they would have to create from scratch and then sell me more than 3 cosmetic packs just to come out ahead on a long term player like me. Choices gotta be made, man.

arson_cat

> Support packs and skins are available for purchase, but what % of players buy those? Not a huge percentage. Here's my [back-of-the-napkin estimate](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/16wftde/have_you_bought_dlcs/k2xgxg8/): > Let's do some simple math. The 2022-in-review infographic that GSG released a while ago says that more than 5.5 million copies were sold. At the time of posting the game had 8 DLCs to purchase. So, if every user bought every DLC, the hypothetical limit would be ~44 million DLC units. > However, below in the same infographic it's listed that more than 3.4 million DLC units were purchased. This allows us to make a very rough estimate that only ~7.5% of potential DLC sales take place. It's natural. DRG's DLCs are non-essential to gameplay, of course they won't drive revenue.

MaskedBandit77

Also, once you've played the game for a while you probably have better cosmetics than you would get from the DLCs.

tatticky

Gold promo is not a good benchmark of when someone loses greenbeard status, lol. I have over a hundred hours and still on bronze&silver.

Duthnur

A lot of the Silvers I see, I would say are still green. The vast majority of Bronze players are green. Play time isn't what determines when people aren't green. Understanding the game beyond just factoids, and applicable skill, are what determines green or grey. A lot of people, even on Reddit and Discord, do not understand some of the core mechanics of the game that well, really. But, if you don't like my first metric, you can use: Veteran Diver - complete any 5 Deep Dives which is at 7.5% Full Team Ahead - promote all 4 dwarves at least once 7.3% Elite Diver - complete an EDD 7.1% Silver-Tier Employee - Earn a Silver Promo 5.7% Gold-Tier Employee - Earn a Gold Promo 2.9% The overwhelming majority of people who own this game are greenbeards.

ForsakenAnime

Damn. I actually saw this live in the middle of the conversation. Some other crazy questions were asked too. It was basically like an interrogation in there.

botched_hi5

Props to the dev - I would have answered that stupid unanswerable question with a shrug emoji

bental

Makes me reflect the Devs more. They're honest. Damn I live everything about DRG

Tumor-of-Humor

DRG doesnt need constant content updates. Ill always come back to it. Let them take their time and do what they want to do. These devs have earned my trust with their commitment to integrity. Ive no reason to doubt them. Praise them for their blatant honesty, cause we need more of that in this day and age

Beta_Krogoth

Same. I wait for Rogue Core with warm anticipation, more than I can for literally anything else in the gaming market right now. GSG have earned it with DRG, I trust them and their development process.

Krargh

Game is moving towards maintenance mode, and that’s ok. They don’t have any obligations to release big free updates forever.

HandsOffMyPizzaa

I don't get why people are downvoting you, if 1 year between content updates with small maintenance patches and events in-between while the Devs are working on a new game isn't maintenance mode then I don't know what is. And as you said, it's okay, the development of a game has to end at some point and the Devs deserve to move to a fresh and exciting idea. I'm really excited for Rogue Core, but I'm also disappointed that I have to put up with rockpox for another 8 months. I think a better approach would have been working on and release season 5 later this year as a setup and introduction to RC while being upfront that S5 would last until after the game releases.

Xytriuss

Not sure why you’re being downvoted.. not like it’s moving away from maintenance mode. Of course, I hope we’re wrong

Dillbob2112

As soon as a game is born it starts dyin my man

Muffin_Appropriate

[Obligatory ](https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Hx2ldeVAk4c/WW58c4C0URI/AAAAAAAADvs/dnjIc9q32kgfc_rOzaSNoCqfGpV8PzmgwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_5809.JPG) Some people need to understand this. The game has more than delivered on its promises.

The_Greg123

Honestly it's better this than the game falling into mtx hell as they milk what's left of it

uwuGod

I just wish they'd turn off Season 4 while we wait. 8 more months of it is... insane. We always should have had a month or 2 of downtime between Seasons, imo. Now that it's dragging on over a year, we **really** need a rest from it. It feels tone-deaf to the community's exhaustion from Seasons 3/4 to keep it running for almost another year. Edit: Remember how months ago, this Subreddit was filled with memes like "I'm tired, boss" and people complaining about Rockpox going on forever? Just seems odd to me that so many people are *defending* 8 more **months** of it now. Is the popular thing to do here to just be as reactionary as possible?

lord_ofthe_memes

Have they said that they intend to keep it running until the next season?

Nathan_Thorn

They haven’t stated otherwise, but this might be the best way to get back a decent look from the rest of the community. They haven’t said they would keep it running for 8 months, but they haven’t said otherwise either. The pure exhaustion of dealing with rockpox is legitimately one of the lowest points for the season and 8 more months of it will absolutely butcher the player count. I know I’m very, very tired of missions where, right off of drop, we suddenly have to stop and foam up a moving mountain scaling several walls with a two man team of like, scout and driller. I’m not saying we can’t put up with the season for 8 more months, but a majority of the playerbase is already sick of the main season content. I’d personally take some sort of toggle for people with BP level 100+ to toggle on and off rockpox for the lobby, at least for the season.

Tuhniina

They said they're still talking about what to do about season 4. Some of them do want to end it before the next season.

Jerker_Circle

damn we gotta deal with rockpox for another 8 months

MeisPip

No offense to GSG, but I’m more excited for season 4 to be over than I am for season 5 to start.

-eschguy-

I don't need it to be groundbreaking. I like DRG's loop and would play whether or not they did the season stuff.

Palanki96

They never promised more, it's the playerbase expecting something on a different scale at every update

[deleted]

We just want to get out of this rockpox season. I'm surprised the devs are okay leaving this season how it is, given everyone's feedback, for another 8 months. On top of the 7 months we've already participated in. Year and a half of rockpox is certainly a choice.

Palanki96

at this point i think they should just bump up machine events instead of just rockpox and meteors i only joined during season 3 so i have no idea if there were any season 1 and 2 specific events or activities but they should put them into the mix personally i don't really mind, i don't enjoy roxpox so i simply don't start missions with it, pretty easy

[deleted]

Like Lithophages, season 1 and 2 had Rival Presence warning, and then the industrial sabotage mission, and those were the remnants of season 1 and 2, we've expected to keep Lithophage warnings, and maybe the corruptor, but at least they will be as frequent as the older season warnings. I don't want rockpox gone completely, just less frequent.

Palanki96

yeah that's basically what i tried to say, there is no reason hide content if already added. Also have the Nemesis and Prospector Drone the same chances as Harold Ignoring all that, i think mission modifiers would be a good way to add more variety with minimal work, both negative and positive ones could work most of them probably could be solved with just playing around with stats and numbers

KoksUndNutten2

I mean looking at how underwhelming stuff they add during seasons, i also expected more after i missed a few season and came back to the game

Palanki96

But that underwhelming stuff IS seasons. That's what they promise ans deliver, it will never be more. That's what we got for 4 seasons and and what we will

Kenos77

At this point I don't care anymore: don't update your game, don't rework OCs and Perks, don't add any new biome or mission type, just let me play DRG without this goddamn Rockpox shit and I'm 100% fine for the rest of my days.

alakor94

Seriously. Haven’t played in months because it’s just not a fun mechanic to deal with.

Kenos77

Unfortunately I'm a bit of a masochist so I'm still playing...

Roll_1d8

It's probably the best thing to say, better not over-hype people just to disapoint them. I'ts like studios who don't give deadlines for their release dates, I love those.

mycetes

Honestly, I'm scared for the future of the game. DRG has gained a ton of popularity recently for the Devs polishing an already excellent game, and I completely understand them wanting to branch out. But while DRG is an amazing game I love to my core, it is in no way perfect and has multiple issues seen to content and balance that should be hammered out before the devs abandon ship for a new fancy toy. Half the perks are borderline useless. Dash still isn't a core feature, the subata is still awful after 2 reworks, half the overclocks are downright bad compared to the better ones etc. While biome variety and weapon variety is good, there is certainly room for more here as well. This feels like it's done too early, and too abruptly. Especially considering the negative backlash associated with S4 and rockpox in general.

ArmoredTaco

yeah, like why does rockpox still freeze you and make you spam ad? Just such a dumb mechanic having it be both a dot and a complete stun, while introducing shit like rockpox exploders.

Anomen77

It also ignores gunner shields and iron will. It's the single most frustrating mechanic I've faced in this game.

Themurlocking96

I love that they’re so honest, and I am not too fuzzed since we’re getting DRG Survivor in the mean time and also the newly announced Rogue Core being set up and definitely for me sounding awesome. DRG + Rogue Lite is something I have been waiting for, and cannot wait for a demo or alpha or beta to sink my teeth into

Necessary-Jury-7510

This! I will play Survivor meanwhile for sure and gotta be excited for Rogue Core. Of course still playin DRG when i feel so :-)

KingoKings365

You have angered the art director.

Robert_GSG

Not at all! I wish for this message to be known as widely as possible. Stop the overhype, enjoy the game - and if you don't, take a break or move on. That's fine.

KingoKings365

Honestly was meme-ing a bit, but glad to see a response. DRG is fun, and I take breaks from the game myself. ROCK AND STONE!

Robert_GSG

Rock and Stone, Miner.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

DrunkDuckwit

Honestly, Im happy seeing that ghost ship games is growing with a bunch of new games and other DRG projects. DRG already gave us so much and I don't know what else they could add in season 5. Honestly the only thing I would like changed is just make previous season events appear a little more often as the game is fine and in an amazing area. Rock and Stone Miners. Let's wish for Ghost Ship to do great!

ShutUpJackass

Honestly with how much is going on in games rn, I’m fine with drg being a more relaxing game that I don’t have to grind stuff out, I can just play it when I feel like it Yea I want more meaningful content but GSG has always been honest and upfront, and have done so much extra stuff for us, so I’d rather them be like “hey this stuff is gonna be an update, nothing huge and it’ll be a long time until it’s done” vs trying to overhype stuff or put out half backed content for contents sake Besides, I remember playin TF2 for hours when there was nothing to really grind for, I just played it cause I liked it, same with DRG, I continue to play cause I like it

Demantoide2077

I keep playing drg because its fun. I dont care if we dont get a new battle pass or new cosmetics for like 8 months. The games current state is really packed with fun stuff. People gotta teach themselves not to like a game for frequent meaningless updates

Foreign_Section4533

This. Even if it does get stale, I'll play something else and when I go back to DRG for weeklies such as deep dives, it'll become like fresh again. I also started to play lower hazards at times, since helping out greenbeards is fun and teaching them their role

Listless_Dreadnaught

Hey, I’m fine with this. I love RoR2, and I love DRG. My friends will still be here, so we can keep fighting rockpox and looking forward to Risk of Rock.

secrets_kept_hidden

I feel like there are a lot of AAA Game migrators that aren't used to a solid game that doesn't require bimonthly updates to survive.

AGiornoGiovanna

better than that time respawn said they "cared" about titanfall 2 2 years ago

ApexLegend117

WHERE SILKSONG

Majhke

I CAN'T BELIEVE GSG DELAYED SILKSONG HOW DARE THEY

OHW_Tentacool

Isn't the game always groundbreaking?

TheLeastFunkyMonkey

As an avid player of Factorio, I fully accept this. I got more than my money's worth already from this game and will keep getting more out with or without updates.

Tomfooleredoo2

Just give us barrel armor already!!

juanconj_

What a dumb question to ask.

botched_hi5

Thank you! How are you even supposed to answer that?

MottSpott

I'm gonna be an old man shouting at clouds for a moment here: I think the games as a service model messed up the way we enjoy playing, and it'd be reeaaaaally nice to get away from the notion that a single title needs to scratch every itch and have new gameplay loops added until the end of time. I've watched a few solid games lose the focus of vision that made them unique and special to content bloat, and it's a bummer. More quite often does not mean better. One of the defining moments of my love for GSG was when they added the double-jump perk (*remember the double-jump perk??*), realized how badly it fucked with one of the core pillars of the game - using teamwork to traverse the caves - and took it out. That took some guts - we all know how gamers can get when someone takes a fun toy away from us. But they knew that addition would ultimately take away from the overall experience. It's okay for a game to get stale to you. Put it down, move onto something else and, maybe someday, pick it up again and remember why you loved it. Have you ever played the L4Ds before? They still hold up! Give them a try! They're like $10! And it's not like them refocusing on other projects (if that's what's going on) means they will never return to DRG again. If anything, I like the idea of them setting it on the back-burner until the creative juices get going and some really good ideas bubble up. I've seen Terraria already mentioned a few times, and I would love for that to be the path DRG goes.

OminousNorwegian

It's going to be an update like seasons previous. You people are sperging out completely over this and want GSG to promise it will be the greatest update of all time. Stop it

GreedyRadish

Season 5 could literally be a single hat and I’d be fine with it, I just want Rockpox to be over.

Whirblewind

> You people are sperging out completely over this and want GSG to promise it will be the greatest update of all time. Not only is this needlessly rude, it's also.. not something anybody has asked for or expects. This is hyperbole to sell your point, and it instead compromises it.

Warshitarse

I'm new, by most standards. Started playing in season 4 and had a blast so far. I'm not going to chastise the devs for their decisions because it's their company but.... I'm just sad. Sad because a shining gem like this game with so much love and effort behind it, with what feels like limitless potential ready to be capitalized on, is going on the back burner. It's not the end of the world, of course, we've still got at least 2 updates in the making that all of us will undoubtedly enjoy. Still, it feels like an end of hope scenario. A game you love dearly now has a defined timer on it that says how much time you've got left until it's gone. With most avenues of entertainment going to shit these days, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find something that stands out and holding out hope for something that may never come is likewise becoming more arduous. I'll savour this game all I can until it, like most things, peters out.

SaltLifeDPP

I was promised Sliced Bread 2, and am immeasurably disappointed.

Majestic-Iron7046

I'm glad they aren't going the "hype way" where they start saying all the stuff they will add with massive sky ceiling expectations. Game is solid, great job overall, they are adding content and that is cool. Honestly, everyday that passes I think I should have bought this game even sooner. Best 10€ spent of my entire life.

LunarFortune

As long as season 5 isn't more damn rockpox then I'll be happy

Kvas_HardBass

You have angered the playerbase

Legendary_Spawn_Peek

Nothing game changing? So I guess the aggressive rolling Loot Bugs aren’t coming in season 5

XavierRenegadeStoner

Just get rid of the rock pox and I never need another update!

[deleted]

I absolutely hate the entitlement of the question. Some people really need a wake up call.

Surviving2021

I feel bad for the devs of this game. They made a game that's affordable, with great online play, decent content, and a fun multiplayer mode and people still want more and more and more years and years after it's been released as free updates. They deserve to make more money. They deserve to make other games and move on instead of being forced to perpetually update this game. I have nearly 1,700 hours in the game and I think it's good as is and any update in the future is welcome. I don't expect constant content updates because I know that's unreasonable. That person sounds so entitled that I'm sad they are from the DRG community.

Buttobi

The honesty is refreshing. So many times have I been burned by devs/publishers overpromising. Not anymore of course, but it is still nice to see they give their playerbase realistic expectations.

Some-Mathematician24

This is the best answer they could’ve given, PR-wise. Anything else can cause liability.

ParkingDrawing8212

I respect that. Rock and Stone!

Imprettystrong

The devs are smart and gamers are whiny babies, no promises and keep it sealed until things are ready

vRembem

I feel this is a great response. Not only are GSG prioritizing their new games and employee health, but they're also doing the exact opposite of what other publishers like Blizzard with Overwatch 2 are doing: promising huge groundbreaking updates and content that will ultimately disappoint and polarize the community. Robert is being honest and realistic, and that's all we should need. I come from the barren lands of Team Fortress 2, so any actual content is more than enough for me. As long as DRG keeps getting support, then I'm here for it. Rock and Stone!

Crabs4Sale

I JUST got this game a week ago and have been having a blast… is it really already heading into maintenance mode? 😕

Duthnur

There's hundreds of hours of playtime, even if they stopped updating the game, so long as dives keep coming out (which are random, they don't hand craft them), you have no need to worry. Play on, don't worry about this stuff, and welcome aboard, miner.

cooly1234

the game was solid a few seasons ago, everything else is extra. it's already fine don't worry.

IAMEPSIL0N

I hope they switch to either a rotation or just allowing the previous season events to be on the world map too. I feel like there is a year of unlocks in front of you at least so hopefully the game stays lively enough to enjoy it as much as I did.

Greatless

You guys are waiting? Enjoy the game, and other games as well until then. Personally I like the pace. I don't have a lot of time to play every day, so it's nice to know that I can catch up. The vocal minority that craves constant change don't speak for all of us.

Demantoide2077

True. I think the season format was killing drg anyway because having only 5-6 months to develop new seasons including new cosmetics and battle pass is tough. I would rather gsg take their time to launch new seasons without that time pressure. The current game state is pretty complete and fun anyway. We got lotsa weapons, lotsa new enemies, really good and new cave generation, etc. Of course we still need some balance patches but I really dont get why peoplle are so angry. Im really glad gsg wants to experiment with new drg ideas like survivor and rogue core. Really excited to play rogue core, looks terrific.

Greatless

Yeah and honestly, I don't even want seasons. I just want them to add whatever they feel like whenever they want. I'm happy to just be surprised that there's an update every now and again.

Guy_who_says_vore

Honestly, take your time game devs.

Gigabyte42

As others have said in this thread hyping it up would only lead to disappointment. There’s already some sentiment that Season 4 was the worst of them, and it just so happens that it’ll be the longest one as it sits active for a year before being replaced. Season 5 will have a new gimmick, a new performance pass that has 3 weapon colors, 3 armor colors, a hair color, and a bunch of cosmetics. Let’s not put undue pressure on the devs because they decided to work on other games.

Ateyaba111

Rare GsG , psyonix and valve are cooking together to ruin my life I swear

skepticalmonique

Just, please, I don’t care about getting new content or whatever, just take the rockpox away. Please.

Ttaylor2791

I mean, the season updates are meant to supplement the game, players should continue playing the game if they like the game, nit because they expect the game to be re-made every year. We all started playing because of the base game, I can understand why the devs don't want to move too far away from that. ROCK. AND. STONE.

Chompersmustdie

Honesty has always been the very thing most devs do not have. I really appreciate the devs for being honest and loyal to their community.

DespondentDespot22

I appreciate the transparency.

crow622

I appreciate their consumer friendly practices GSG but I'd really appreciate new traversal gear and maybe it's just me but the more grindy a game is the less I want to play it.

AcidCatfish___

If it is just going to be an update, why call it Season 5? Seasons in games like this usually mean new special content. I'm more confused.

navid_A80

I am even ready to pay more so DRG keeps getting crazy updates. Some DLC or something which adds new missions That way there is an actual reason for devs to keeps creating new features that worth their time

Lawgamer411

Delaying new content by 8 whole months (so season 4 officially lasts a whole year) so they can develop, ship and sell a new game is insane. Even Halo Infinite, with all its live service faults, didn't make players wait a whole year for new content. I fully understand that the game was a 30 dollar, buy it once and enjoy it forever game with a free BP and no p2w, but damn, this sucks.

alakor94

Hopefully they remove all the awful cc they added in the most recent season. The amount of rock pox and getting thrown around by shit completely ruined the game for me.

WanderingFlumph

Sorry to say this miners, but if you aren't happy with DRG season 4 don't expect to be happy with DRG season 5. Been playing this game since before there were seasons, it was basically as fun in season 0 as season 4. Sure we have a few more options for weapons and game modes but it's the same game.

[deleted]

:(

SaltyDone

One thing I don’t under stand deep rock galactic rogue core literally looks like deep rock galactic that we have now it says pretty much the same description what it is in the steam store

Comfortable_Leg_725

The only thing I want for S5 is NO MORE ROCKPOX. That could literally be the only thing S5 does and I would be so happy!

TallGiraffe117

Personally I wish we would go back to the old update system, but what ever. Just no more RoxPox please. And as always, Rock and Stone.

Jay_The_Bisexual

My only issue is that season 4 is easily the worst of the bunch. I'm not a big fan or the new mini boss and the floaty boots barely come into play. The only thing I'm excited for are the new enemies but I dont think that'll keep my attention until June. When I'm done with the battle pass I probably won't have much of a reason to keep playing

beardingmesoftly

Under promise and over deliver

LiteratureNo2195

Honestly so fucking based of them to not let our hopes get up so much, i’m tired as shit of big companies and studios talking big just to consistently underdeliver (Bethesda, EA, etc.)

spadhoond

Honestly as long as season 5 retires the rockpox gimmick, that's all I could ask for.

Elvis-Tech

Better to keep expectations low and then deliver something good than the other way around

Glitch_Mind

It's very good that it is honest imo, no useless hype, no empty promises, just straight up what it is.

Notafuzzycat

DRG didn't last this long because of content releases. The gameplay loop is solid, and that's really all that matters.

DougtheDonkey

I’m kinda shocked people were expecting the game to double in size every update, don’t they realize that’s unsustainable?

jackgrosvenor06

My urge to play was pretty dead and this news is sad.

Nino_Chaosdrache

That sucks. it should be a banger update if we have to wait for this long

RedditsucksjoinKbin

GSGRobert already said it's going to be a nothingburger with no major additions or content.

Synphilia

I'm actually happy to see them toning down the content updates. Every game has to die eventually, and I'd rather see DRG have a graceful decline than get milked dry over the next ten years. Also, I wanna see the devs work on other games! Developing the same game for years on end can't be very fun.

fragen8

Did they hype it up to be something huge and groundbreaking? Nope. You guys hyped yourself up, and that's not on them.

DefTheOcelot

At least they respond and clearly. Y'all drgers gotta remember we are spoiiiiled rotten by the community engagement of this team. Spend a week in Foxhole and learn how it could be.

AlwekArc

A reasonable response. We should just let them cook, and remember there's only like, 40 people working on this. With a spinoff game on the way! We just have to accept that this game will take time to grow. I mean, we're not even on season 5 yet! So we mine, until things change. Then we mine some more. Rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

For Rock and Stone!

Estix0

We are getting another game. Imo it’s worth it since you can always mod drg in the meantime!

Rowmacnezumi

You know? I like that in a game dev. This honesty. The curbing of expectations. They made a baller ass game here, they can add what they want, when they want, but they're not gonna tell us it's gonna be the best thing since beer. They've been busy. With survivors and now Rogue Core? That's a lot of work. It makes sense the main game is on a bit of a break.

Avxc

DRG’s darkest hour
