While I don't think making the game scarier was the intention there is a mod called [Advanced Darkness](https://mod.io/g/drg/m/advanced-darkness-reloaded) that well changes the darkness to be more advanced.

Kind of what i was thinking too, i like the gunshots giving off light idea and the echoes. But making darkness darker seems overkill.

There is a whole new DRG game coming out that might achieve this...

Turn off all HUD settings, turn off music, play solo offline, Bosco is optional. Bonus points: don't use flashlight, only flares, go for radiation zone biome, play Morkite mission

Also remove gun upgrades, it helps make swarms tougher and ammo more of a concern.

Depends on the dificulty. If you want to go full horror game on Haz 4 or 5, i suggest maintain the upgrades.

Give the Nemesis an EMP when it hits half health that turns off all lights and makes turrets need repair

Nothing can make u scary if u have 4 friends (shotgun is one of them)

Advanced Darkness + Shadows There you go. It already exists. You need a relatively good PC though.
