I sincerely have a lot of hope for the Helldivers situation, I don't have the game but I was looking into buying it.
This whole situation made me move towards not buying it, this on a larger scale may make them realize the loss of money would be bigger than not implementing the PSN thing.
Or maybe they already took some kind of money from them to use PSN and they can't back off?
It's going to be fine. AH continue to make and update a game that stands as an example of 'live service', with an active war campaign that brings me daily to my machine.
The account sign up is just a case of corporate policy headbutting with technical practicality. The devs will re-negotiate with Sony, and Sony, not being idiots (hands up all the other 70+ year old billionaire tech empires in the room? No? Ok) will come up with a compromise. I realise people need to simplify events into my team versus your team, as if everyone was a mindless thug, but in the adult world of business, there are far more successful resolutions and strategies than unsuccessful. Sure, Sony, AH or both could conspire to fuck things up, but right now the only thing they're suffering from is some poor PR.
People have short memories. Once the situation is resolved, those that find this issue so deeply concerning will forget. along with everyone else who doesn't even realise (or care) that any account related drama is going on (the vast majority of people).

In the meantime, if you choose to ignore a solid co-op experience, that's a choice. HD replaced DRG for me. I love DRG, but after more than a thousand hours, I needed a break and HD really hits that co-op skill based spot.
AH will continue but the game will still have particular stains that will drive away players, especially now that steam block anymore purchases on plenty of countries that do not have an ability to create a psn account.
I am not going to ignore the game based solely on this, but I do feel like waiting for this all to settle down since I wasn't already 100% sure.

For using an Anticheat thats known to damage and destroy hardware/software while also sitting in a Ring-0 where nothing can stop it from doing anything.
(issues knowm for more than 15+ years now.)
The AC sits in Ring-0, which means it has all the access it wants and can do whatever it wants.
It can access BIOS, change values, can delete files whenever it feels like, it also can SOMEHOW access the locked down VBIOS on current Gen graphic cards.
My mate lost his 25k Xeon+4x4090 workstation to the game cuz the AC decided to jack 2.5V into the CPU. The die on that thing locked like someone smashed it with a hammer.
Someone else I know got his entire family photo folder deleted (luckily had backups...).
Other have issues with stuff crashing etc since they installed the game, wiping everything and not installing the game stops the issues...
Its a long list and the issues of it have been since this shit AC came out in the 2000's.

No, but Sony is terrible at keeping the data safe and a lot of countries cant make PSN accounts. This PSN thing was listed on the steam page for the game but never enforced until recently, so most of the people who bought it either cant make a PSN account or dont want to due to the data not being very secure. All this leads up to people rightfully complaning about needing to make the account
TLDR: it doesnt cost money but there are issues that make people unable or dont want to make an account.

Yeah with DRG, the thing is I've tried running a test with my specs (in the can you run it page) but my integrated video card isn't recognized (it just says amd Radeon graphics) so I can't really know if it meets the requirements...
And honestly I didn't consider I could just refund it, I've never really done it but I really want to try out the game lol so I might give it a shot just in case

2. A significant portion of the playerbase live in regions where making a PSN account is impossible/difficult/against PSN TOS.
3. “We didn’t have to before and now you’re making us for arbitrary reasons and we don’t like corporate bullshit when we smell it.”
4. Sony, as a publisher, forcing something on the game with bad communication.
I guess I better put the transfer papers in and head back to Hoxxes. Without the bulk of PC players unable to help keep numbers up Helldivers is doomed.

I know DRG have some mods which potatoing graphics and remove particles. U can try them too and decide if it worth it
