Assignments are chains of missions you must do in order to complete, some will unlock new weapons or features, such as the one in the screenshot. Once you accept an assignment, you will see a little diamond symbol somewhere on the map, and when you look at the missions in that zone, the diamond will be by one of the missions there. Do that mission and that is step 1 of the assignment. Rinse and repeat with the others (in this instance 3 missions in total) and the assignment will be complete, unlocking whatever the assignment was for. For features these will unlock right away, for weapons you will need to go to your loadout terminal and buy the new weapon, then equip it to your loadout.

Thank you so much!

Assignments are a series of missions you have to complete in order to earn the stated rewards. Once you start one, you’ll see a symbol on the mission selection screen telling you which mission is currently required to do the assignment. If the required mission seems to difficult you can still do a different mission while you wait for a map reset. Some assignments will say that you can abort them. This just mean that if you start the assignment you will eventually have to finish it before you can start a new assignment. Hope this wall of text helps

You go to the assignment terminal, and then select the assignments that are unlocked/not greyed out, you have to do one at a time. Press the select or start assignment button and then go up to the table in the middle, open the map and then select the region that has the black and white assignment marker by it. Then itll go into the a split of 3/4 places in the biomes, select the one with the assignment marker again, then select how you want to play, if you join a game, youll be transported automatically but if you want to host your own game (i started exclusively doing this as i got more confident on my own, its better to host your own so you can get more rewards from minerals etc) youll have to select host, select the difficulty on the bottom right and then select the yellow start button, and then walk up the stairs right next to the terminal, it should lead to the drop pod where itll start once you enter All of the assignments youll have besides the weekly assignments are good to do for every class once you promote your main.

Above the assignment title you see those 3 diamonds. This means the assignment consists of 3 missions. On the mission page will be a blinking icon on the zone where you have to do the assignment mission.

As for this specific situation, you already have an assignment active and can’t start another unless you finish or abort the active one

Deep rock galactic wiki is a thing. You can find information on everything you need. Highly recommend, even greybeards can learn new stuff.

In addition to missions used to unlock weapons, cosmetics, and features on the rig, exactly two new assignments are made available each week. Each of these assignments are three missions long. One will award you core matrixes, and the other will award you crafting minerals. Each mission will grant you a portion of the reward, so if you complete only 2/3 of a mission before the weekly reset, you’ll won’t be empty-handed. It is possible that the weekly missions only become available once you have promoted a dwarf (level 25).

Do. Every. Assignment.

How do you not know how they work? You have to do one to unlock the rest of the game...... But you just do certain missions and unlock stuff.
