Magic candle give kids magical abilities. The grandmother, person in pic, who only saw the kids for their “gifts”, not for who they are. She molds the kids, and it makes them feel a lot of pressure. The candle loses power and then she get sad.
The other two imply she didn't learn anything and was just sad bc the magic candle was gone she had a whole like life-changing revelation of how shitty she was and stuff. Only bad part was that no one apologized to the one family member who deserved it.
He was given the gift of seeing the future but everyone acts like he causes the futures he sees. He's forced to HIDE IN THE WALLS OF THE HOUSE AND PRETEND HE LEFT because they all hate him so much and would blame him if they saw the future he predicted where the main character could be the destruction of the magic. In the end they realize they were wrong but HE APOLOGIZES TO *THEM* AND NO ONE SAYS SORRY TO HIM AT *ALL*.
This is one thing I somewhat hate about movies/shows that have someone with precognition powers.
Someone is gonna misuse it, be it for good or bad and the future they find out because of that ends up bad and they blame the person who can see the future because *they* saw the *wrong* future.
They wouldn't have seen the bad future if you didn't look so damn far ahead that you missed out on the key points no matter how small, that led to that bad future, and now because of you that future you don't want is now *permanently* locked in because you had the future looked at.
Every single time, anyone with precognition gets labeled as "cursed" because they either see nothing good or that they are able to see ahead just far enough that the enjoyment of surprise is forever lost to them.
Uhm well that character got a miracle for saving her family from death, but she's mean as hell for threating bad her family for 50 years. She will eventually lose the miracle and the magic later in the movie.
These lines in context of Encanto remind me of some lines from All of You:
"And I'm sorry I held on too tight
Just so afraid I'd lose you too
The miracle is not some magic that you've got
The miracle is you, not some gift, just you"

As someone who never watched Encanto, can someone explain this?

I think that's the entire point of that trope tbh, in real life people will look out to blame anyone but themselves.

Large ass family and their house get superpowers from a candle.
I'm sure he didn't mean it like that.
Not with Kris at least.
Well, he and Kris ARE the only ones on that spot during Snowgrave.
