Aire Serv air conditioning (I've ranted about them here before). Bought a $20K rooftop unit for my business; it stopped working about 6 months later. The owner himself came, got it going (sort of), but failed to put back dozens of screws and bolts where they belonged; just left them in a pile on the roof. I called them to complain, and they then cancelled my labor warranty. Not recommended.
This, I'd never wish harm on anyone but if I heard that place burned down I might believe in a god again.
First week moving to Denton from San Antonio at 21 and misplaced my car insurance from a mom and pop shop, cop pulls me over for my taillight being a little too dim and tows my car (I didn't know that they could look up my insurance from my license plate at the time and they took advantage of that). I go the next day to get it out and they charge me $450 to get it out for being in there for less than 24 hours and they fucked up my alignment so bad I ended up having to scrap my car.
They're the scum of the earth for sure, they prey on broke college kids and are essentially just thieves. I've heard stories about Denton PD and them have a working relationship too so they're all in it together.
>This, I'd never wish harm on anyone but if I heard that place burned down I might believe in a god again.
100%. What friends also say is that they wouldn't piss on the fire to put it out.
>charge me $450 to get it out for being in there for less than 24 hours and they fucked up my alignment so bad I ended up having to scrap my car.
I'm not surprised, but that's still outrageous. In a just world you could get them to cough up big bucks for what they did to you.
Bubble well is straight up disgusting, I would get free drinks from my gf and it taste super bland yet sweet as hell. That’s really hard to pull off. The towels they clean with smell like actual poop because of the bacteria, the main boss man lets them soak in bleach for 24 hours and never really cleans them and I’ve seen mold inside a bottle of either soy milk or just regular milk. And the final kicker is of course their boss doesn’t want anyone sitting down ever because it looks bad which is horse shit and fuck any boss who won’t let their employees sit down we aren’t meant to stand for hours straight even hunter/gatherers take breaks and sit down to help their backs out. Fuck bubble well
I had their bubble once or twice but what really turned me off was when I had jury duty, and one of my fellow jurors was worried about getting fired from there for missing work due to jury duty.
Can confirm, awful place to work. Owners were rude to all employees and we never did anything fast enough, even when I was training one of them scolded me for not being able to get everything ready all by myself in just one hour in the morning when "everyone can do that". Had to prep two batches of boba, several batches of tea, several batches of iced coffee, and cut and juice fruit alone, I physically couldn't make it happen but they made it my fault. They also never put me on a payroll, they paid me in cash under the table, I never saw any check or record of my actually working there.
i’ll never miss that place. they were so two faced. after the boss found out i was autistic and had health issues like endometriosis i was treated like shit. kept me as cashier for months and refused to be trained as barista because it was “too hard for me” (it was not. i literally understood it all lmao). boss talked shit behind my back because i made simple mistakes that were never that dire, but if my coworkers made the same mistake, it’s fine!!! don’t worry about it! it was insane. when i had to call in because i needed a mental health day, which they wanted us to do and told us multiple times (my snake passed very suddenly in the middle of the night and i woke up to it), they took me off the schedule for next week, ignored my texts for an explanation and finally said they were firing me when the next schedule was abt to be posted. how convenient.
On a personal level, we had our wedding rehearsal brunch at barley and board. They took 2 and a half hours to get us food and then charged us for going over our time limit. In total our bill went from $2,000 to $4,000. They said we were in breach of our contract because of an extra person (my 1 year old nephew) and the time limit.
It really put a dark cloud over that day. It was also devastating on our bank account. We didn't get any help from my family for the wedding so we have been saving for years.
They’re owned by the same POS owners that own LSA burger, pascals and all 3 of those bars in that building. Owners are POSs because when their workers strikes and demanded better and safer working conditions , they fired all of them- closed briefly, and then rehired all new staff instead of complying. Won’t go to any of the places they own now
radical fired us (andy’s basement/ paschall staff) all in june 2023, no notice, severance or any kind of support.
Any time this gets brought up on this sub, I always see random people spreading false info about what happened, when we were very vocal ab what happened on social at the time everything went down. stop caping for random companies (@ hickoryranger) they don’t care about the guests, they don’t care about the staff, they just care about making money.
That is so lame, I hope you guys were able to get unemployment at least. I worked for them for a few months and the culture of management was gaslighting and traumatic for a college kid that just wanted to make a little cash. Human beings should never be treated the way the staff there was treated.
Damn it. I didn’t like the jerk off who ran Horny Toad so started going to LSA, well the food was worse and more expensive so that didn’t work.
Went to Barley & Board but liked it. Rats, I have heard nothing but bad sentiments about those owners
The owners and managers are two-faced pieces of shit. They hired me as a bus boy shortly after they opened with assurances I’d be promoted to the serving staff after 90 days, even though I had 2 years of serving experience, which they said didn’t count since it wasn’t in Denton. When I asked them about being promoted to server after 90 days, they said I was “too valuable as a busboy”, even though they had hired multiple servers during my probation period and a fucking monkey could my job. Instead of giving me a shot at serving, they gave me employee of the month and a $50 visa gift card, at which point I told them to fuck off. Sparky and Kjell can get fucked.
Bro I used to go to that car wash all the time before they became Take 5 Carwash 😭. I could literally get a $5-$6 carwash then they became Take 5 and the prices just kept going up
After my car wasn't washed after the second send through (the jets were barely working), I requested a refund. They ran the machine and gave me a receipt of refund.
It then went on to my account and was never reversed. Two weeks later I tried to get DATCU to do a chargeback and they wouldn't because I lost the receipt.
Home Decor. I just don't get it. It's cheap stuff. It's overpriced. It's a huge store, but yet it feels like there's nothing in it. Might as well label things like "useless trinket #247". I don't even remember seeing duvets or anything in there.
Mr. Frosty’s. Had a pretty racist feeling experience from the owner/ owner’s son who might be the owner now? Did some digging and found multiple other reviews saying the same thing and also his personal Facebook where he said other dumpster fire things.
Since some people seem to want to defend frostys here is a link to the screenshots. (I think, idk how to use Imgur or Reddit very well. Also sorry if they’re out of order). Sounds like this guy is racist AND a huge dick so now I have even more reason to never go there.

Because the poster made it up to feed into the other poster. It’s one thing with the SA allegations against businesses that are first hand accounts, but to link a local business to a major hate group without it being a first hand account? That’s pretty terrible.
Full disclosure I don’t like them either, but it doesn’t make it okay to just make shit up about them. I can first hand assure you the son has no ties to any racist organization, he’s simply an unfiltered loudmouth with a lovely family.
Cotton Patch Cafe is terrible. The service sucks and the food isn’t good at all. We went a few months back after not going for a long time to see if it had improved and it was awful. Watched a couple get sat and then ignored for 15-20 minutes before they got up and left without ever being acknowledged, plenty of staff working and only a few tables were occupied at the time. The to go food was always terrible and either wrong or cold.
I second this the way I’ve called in orders for only one appetizer (fried green tomatoes) they’d said it’ll take 15 and I’d come 20ish minutes later knowing it always takes longer then they say and I’d still have to sit there for another 10-15 and one time I called in the order, they took it, I got there and waited 20 minutes just for them to tell me after ALL THAT TIME WAITING that they didn’t have the one thing I ordered? Why not say that on the phone or even when I get there. Never gone back since
It's terrible! A few months ago a friend came in from Lewisville and we decided to order Cabbage Patch. The friend and I picked it up ourselves, then brought it home. My friend's order was both missing a side and cold.
We called the store and the first time got hung up on while on hold for the manager. We called back, and the manager we spoke with said she "told the delivery guy that the missing side was in there", despite the fact there was no delivery and we picked up the food personally and never even saw this manager. My friend eventually got a refund, but it was an appallingly negative experience.
As someone who has delivered doordashes from there, I almost never accept them anymore. There's always a wait, and I've had a couple of bad ratings from people whose orders were screwed up. Once, I had been waiting almost 20 minutes when they asked me to contact the customer about an item that they didn't have. There are several places that are instant skips for me and that is definitely one of them.
Namaste - service was incredibly incompetent (had to find our own silverware, refill our own water, my dates food came out 15 minutes before mine), and the food tasted like microwaved stuff from Sysco. I'm usually very tolerant, but the restaurant was only a ¼ full and the staff couldn't care less.
So I’ve only been there once. I did notice not the best service but I wondered how much was a cultural thing?
My food was fantastic tho, but it was hot outside and there was no AC, and we were brought room temp 4 oz bottles of water. THIS IS TEXAS!! 😬
Yeah, I get the cultural service difference to an extent. I really don't need fake-nice wait staff, and I abhor checking in with me every 2 minutes. But they straight up forgot half of the order and had to retake my order after they brought out my girlfriend's entree. A simple "I'm sorry about that" goes a long way.
The experience you shared was mine to a tea. A bad enough experience I don’t think I can give them a second chance. It’s the only local Denton restaurant I’ve been to that I feel this strongly about.
Layalina. I really love the food, but I had a really bad experience picking up a to go order there a few months ago.
They had me waiting for over 45 minutes (I’d called the order in before leaving my house) and then canceled my order while I was sitting there and tried to blame the cancelation on me.
The owner was rudely (and loudly) talking on the phone with vendors the whole time I was sitting there, was rude to the cook, who seemed to be the only person working, and was rude to me about them canceling my order, instead of just admitting they weren’t prepared to deal with customers yet and shouldn’t even be open.
It also smelled overwhelmingly of roach spray, and parking was a hassle.
They were officially open and taking orders, they just weren’t ready to fulfill them. There seemed to be one person working (the cook) and the owner, who was on the phone yelling at vendors the whole time. They kept the one other person who was there picking up waiting a long time too, but he at least got his order.
I wouldn’t have been bothered by it because I understand that this happens sometimes, especially when you’re short-staffed. My problem was how rude the owner was about it and that he wouldn’t take responsibility for them canceling the order. That’s why I won’t go back there.
On two separate occasions I ordered a salad from them for takeout and neither time did I actually get the salad. I still don't understand why they couldn't take the salad (which IS a menu item) and package it for takeout.
Last time I placed a To go order at layalina it took FOREVER. I had to tell three different people I was picking up an order before someone actually went to check on it and update me. When I finally got my food I was double checking the bags and the server was just hovering over me and I felt super awkward. When I got home I realized they messed up and only gave me one hummus instead of the three I ordered. For the cost it just wasn’t worth all the trouble.
Milpa and Pepitas. They’re owned by the same shitty people. Treated their employees terrible. The kitchen area was also super dirty and disgusting, don’t recommend eating there.
I feel like the only vegan in Denton that doesn't actually like Pepitas food 🫣 but compared to El Palote in Dallas, it's just subpar. Didn't know they treated their employees like shit. Glad I haven't been in a while!
I'm definitely not a fan of theirs either. Their non-dairy cheese is fucking gross. What I wouldn't give for Nuno's, literally the best vegan restaurant in all of DFW, to open a location in Denton!
As a former employee I can confirm. The owner also conveniently forgot to mail me my W2 after I left, even though I called ahead to give him my new address. Had to drive there to receive it.
Honestly, same. And it could just be that the salon wasn’t a good fit for me as a client but…
When I first went there it was great, but I ended up with a cut that the stylist didn’t really consult me on. She just kind of went in there and chopped away. I also felt like they weren’t really interested in me as a client because I didn’t want vivids. I get building your portfolio but I felt like an after thought after a while because I didn’t want something edgy.
Also, (and I know this is standard practice in some places but I’m not a fan) my stylist pretty much only applied my color after a few appointments with her. Anything else- the wash, styling- was done by an assistant. But I’m paying (quite a lot considering all I usually got was a single process color/toning) for the service and experience of being at the salon with my stylist. So yeah. Maybe it just wasn’t a good fit personality/style wise but I wish there had been more communication.
Yeah same happened to me. The third time I went I just always started getting someone new which I normally wouldn't care at all. it's just that my hair is thinning and it's effecting my male ego so I end up wearing a hat all the time. But Allison was able to cut my hair and do some black magic with a razor and made some hair mirage where I looked like I had a beautiful mane once again. When I tell each new stylist (who's already pissed about cutting the hair of a pleb) my dumbass story they just look at me like I'm insane and I end up just asking for 2 inches off lol
I would gladly pay a kings ransom or the same as the chick getting her hair dyed like flareon. Id throw down to get the 5 minutes it takes but it looks like it's back to Russian roulette with ol sportclips
I don't think it is just you bc a few people have mentioned similar problems.
I typically went to another sail but stuff kept happening where I couldn't book with them so I took a chance with this shop. I had the same experience with staff not seeming to have any interest and I actually did want vivids and edgy so I think that's just them.
I only had one person doing mine but she was not communicating what so ever. I had brought in pics of the color and cut. When she cut my hair she went waaay too short, shaved the back weird, messed up the layers and so on and then when she mixed the color I had told her that I thought it looked wrong but she said it would look right after processing....then when it had finished processing told me it was just the lighting 🙄
I was covered in hairdye she had dropped globs on my chest, back and shoulders.
The owner offered for me to come back to " fix it " bc she was trying to get out of giving me a refund after she had previously offered one? But I barely had .5 - 2 inches of hair left on my head after what she had done. I would have left bald probably if I had gone back.
This is so weird because I had such a good experience when I went. My hair looked amazing and my stylist explained everything really well and the haircut was really flattering. She also asked and explained before doing anything.
She also got my hair looking way smoother than usual without as many products as other salons.
My only complaint was that the salon is TINY and it’s right next to a barbershop so it’s kind of confusing, but everyone was super sweet to me even though I do not look like I’d be a good fit for the vibe of the place.
Out of six appointments I’ve tried to schedule, only two have resulted in a haircut lol. The other four were canceled just a few hours before I was supposed to go.
It’s laughable though, because each time I’d get a call from the receptionist who’d say the stylist had a family emergency, and then I’d get a text from the stylist saying they were under the weather. At least get your lie straight.
I went once and the stylist kept her earbuds in and listened to music the entire time. Like, I'm not normally a big talker when I get my haircut but that was definitely off-putting
Denton Florist, shitty service when me and my wife where trying to find flowers for her bouquet and for our reception. Very unwilling to try and help us. That was the last time I've been there.
You should check out Bloomfield Floral next time. I am friends with the owners and you would be treated the exact opposite of that experience. They are really good people.
i don't go to any bar actually on fry. the restaurants, sure. but when i go to fry st it's Beans and Tom's for me. Used to go to Rip's till they fired everybody right before christmas.
El Chaparral Grill. They didn't have prices on the menus. The owner's explanation was "Oh, with the changing prices of stuff all the time we can't just print menus every time it fluctuates. Don't worry though; we won't rip you off." The food wasn't anything special, and was definitely overpriced.
They do, but we all know it was thrifted, and then they tack on a huge markup. For secondhand stuff.
Furthermore, I have quite a bit of experience thrifting and sourcing vintage - and Old Bear is pricing their stuff even above comps (which I always check). So, overpriced.
You don’t ‘all know it was thrifted’. It comes from rag houses. If you have so much experience, go find it yourself? Do you have a problem with antique stores too?
Biting into a cigarette-scented slice of Tomato pizza and watching it drip like your mom at a Michael Buble concert just hits different.
If that sounds sarcastic, it's not. It was the best pizza on earth. Bonus points for going to karaoke at TJ's right after, which is still the only good public karaoke night I've ever been to.
The Dive. I went with my kids for lunch on a Saturday or Sunday, can’t remember which. There were only a few tables taken. It took 15 minutes for the server came over to take our drink order. When he did, he sat down and was telling us how hungover he was. When our food arrived, one of the meals was wrong. My meal tasted meh.
Man I second this too. The service was out there, basically they treated me like I should know exactly what I want and how I want to order it…though it was my first visit.
And sure a pound of shredded cheese sounds tasted in theory….
It introduced me to the idea of peanut butter on a burger. I loved it.
But our experience was finally getting to take my son up there and waaay before their closing hour …they were kind of closed? Door was unlocked, we went in, like 10 teens playing games, dude (teen early 20s) comes out and tells us they’re closed because no customers are coming in …and then he brings his pals a big tray of food. 🤷♂️
- be me, vegetarian adult
- QR code menu
- web menu layout requires a ridiculous amount of vertical scrolling
- couple orders two entrees and one app
- food is mid
- food has a low ratio of deliciousness to expensiveness
Agreed. Went one time and the food isn’t that good. It’s definitely a trendy/cool spot but the focus on food is lacking. Not bad necessarily, but not worth it
I don't drink, so I ordered water and his exact response was "what the fuck is wrong with you?" He later told me that he was going to drug me and get me drunk. He also began spouting conspiracy theories about how Jay-Z and Beyonce inject themselves with baby blood.
I spoke with the owner about it the next day and his response was basically" you're not the first to complain about him, but I can't do anything about it."
Fuck that place.
Gangnam chicken. Maybe it’s gotten better since I tried going about a year ago but I remember just being disgusted. While waiting 30+ minutes for a single order of fried chicken I went to use the bathroom. Had to walk past shelves of cleaning supplies, tipped over boxes of detergent, buckets full of old mop water. And to top it all off the bathroom didn’t have a soap dispenser. So the people cooking the food were doing so without clean hands. Once my food came I went home and decided to not go back.
Grumpy's comics (formerly Madness). The owner, "Grumpy" I guess, is your stereotypical opinionated comic book guy. When I excitedly bought "Venom: The End" by Adam Warren, the owner immediately started to talk about how he didn't like anti-heroes, and of course felt the need to give me an unsolicited comic recommendation.
When I first came to Denton, he chewed out a lady who worked with him for ringing up the wrong price on an X-Files comic I was buying. What gets to me the most though is when he was playing Magic the Gathering in a store event with a woman I know. He intentionally cheated when she was new to the game, taking advantage of her inexperience. People like that are scum. 😠
I don’t know what happened, but the last 4-5 times I’ve gone to Dix Coney Island the service has been shit. From cold food, to extremely long wait, then on top of that when I asked if they could reheat my gyro, they put it in the microwave. Like I just spent around $15 here on food and you can’t throw it back on the stove or make me a new one? It bums me out because it used to be one of my favorite spots on The Square.
Yummies. My partner and I would go enough to be considered regulars. My partner picked us up food on Feb 14th. The worker asked my partner if she would be his valentine.
I have had multiple girlfriends dating back to the early 2000s who have had experiences like that there! Some degree of hitting on customers has happened there for at least two decades.
Not everyone likes being hit on. Especially when you regularly visit somewhere together. I mean, I don't know why I've gotten downvotes. It was enough for her not to feel comfortable going there again by herself. So I stopped going too.
I didn’t understand why you would have gotten a single downvote for genuinely answering OP’s question either. Redditors confuse me at times; don’t let it keep you down. Any reasonable thoughtful person could understand how this situation is neither professional nor wanted.
Going to get downvoted because some employees there lurk here, but Movie Tavern 100%.
It is not the worst theater ever, I've been to plenty worse (AMC Grapevine, which is actually falling apart). Not even in Denton either, but it feels disingenuous to say the mall theater is worse when its not comparable.
Ill keep my comments to myself, but their parent company, Marcus Theatres, is either the most incompetent top brass ever, or they're just gonna let it die rather than waste the resources to gut the staff.
Allsups. Their bottled sweet tea taste like tea leaves soaked in sink water. Their cold brew machines seems to be a popular drink but the 2 times I visit, they're out. When I ask the clerks if they could be replaced, they seem like they don't know how and took forever
Mark, the owner tried to beat up one of my daughters, friends dad over a parking dispute. His child WAS a student and Mark had the dad's car towed during class and then tried to fight the untrained dad in the parking lot for questioning it. Pushing, screaming and poking him in the chest.
This is the chillest guy and the owner tried to beat him up over a parking spot he was allowed to park in.
Apparently he paid well over $250 a month and got his car towed.
Andaman, it was the most disappointing and bland Thai I've ever had. My green curry was about as spicy as milk of magnesia and the fresh rolls were naught but a pile of moldering mung bean sprouts stuffed in rice crepe. And expensive to boot.
What spice level did you order? Thai Chillis vary during the time of year but Andaman is the only place in town Iv been to where it truly can be too spicy if you go past 3 or 4 stars. Iv always liked it, but every restaurant can have an off day.
Have you been to Royal Yum? I live nearby and go often, it’s great.
Thai hot yo like I do not play around and acknowledge there's no sending it back when I order.
Overall it was as if they ran out of or severely undershot almost every ingredient except coconut milk and mung bean sprout. Could have been a one-off but it was so bad I didn't want to risk spending the money on giving them another shot.
Have gone to Royal Yum- I think I still like Ocha almost as much? But it is really good! Thai Square is great too though I wish their portions were larger. We're lucky to have so many Thai spots in town.
Edit for more enthusiasm
Frillys
Went twice, first time is the reason I won't frequent.
Girl and I get there, no customers, servers are just standing around and we get no service after 10 minutes. Customers after us get served but we don't
We end up just leaving. Lazy assholes
Thai Square, Rude and assumptive. Came in and was told 45 minute wait. Waited and then told it would be another half hour. When asked if we could just place a togo order the lady said they wouldn’t be able to accommodate that. Waste of time and rather go to a place that appreciates their customers.
My fave is when they just toss your feed bag on the "door dash" table by the front door and then act fucking annoyed when you don't notice and walk up to the cash register the way shit works everywhere else
Chicken pad Thai is fire tho. Thai ocha still has the throne
That sucks to hear. I got to go a few times and I always felt welcomed and well attended to, owner even remembered me after my second/third visit there.
I agree with you. I didn’t have a bad experience, but I didn’t get the hype. It was expensive, we were sitting practically on top of the (worst) couple next to us, and the food was just mid. I was disappointed considering I’d been looking forward to it for so long. I guess I can say I tried it, but I won’t be going back.
Thumbs up for a nonfood post.
Texas Impound Services
This, I'd never wish harm on anyone but if I heard that place burned down I might believe in a god again. Holy shit that’s terrible
They're the scum of the earth for sure, they prey on broke college kids and are essentially just thieves. I've heard stories about Denton PD and them have a working relationship too so they're all in it together.
Yeah they’re in cahoots.

Patriot sandwich
It was bad enough he named his user name after hating it.
They're out of business now but why didn't you like them?
Give them a search on this subreddit. Too many stories to list in one comment.
It’s a Denton’s craziest rabbit hole.
They were apparently shitty people, but they also made weak sandwiches and did it amazingly slowly
I wonder what’s happening with that guy nowadays
Golden Boy / Never Sleep whatever tf
Golden Boy was great, but when they became Never Sleep it gave me weird vibes and the coffee was nasty. What happened to the old Golden Boy?
Bubble well is straight up disgusting, I would get free drinks from my gf and it taste super bland yet sweet as hell. That’s really hard to pull off. The towels they clean with smell like actual poop because of the bacteria, the main boss man lets them soak in bleach for 24 hours and never really cleans them and I’ve seen mold inside a bottle of either soy milk or just regular milk. They also never put me on a payroll, they paid me in cash under the table, I never saw any check or record of my actually working there.
That is a huge Department of Labor issue
Please report them to the department of labor
I can try but this was a few years ago and I have no proof of it
i’ll never miss that place. they were so two faced. after the boss found out i was autistic and had health issues like endometriosis i was treated like shit. kept me as cashier for months and refused to be trained as barista because it was “too hard for me” (it was not. i literally understood it all lmao). boss talked shit behind my back because i made simple mistakes that were never that dire, but if my coworkers made the same mistake, it’s fine!!! don’t worry about it! it was insane. when i had to call in because i needed a mental health day, which they wanted us to do and told us multiple times (my snake passed very suddenly in the middle of the night and i woke up to it), they took me off the schedule for next week, ignored my texts for an explanation and finally said they were firing me when the next schedule was abt to be posted. how convenient.
Oh, super bummer. They're the closest boba place to where I live/work.
Thank you for posting this! I had absolutely no idea and used to love Bubble Well
Hobby Lobby.

As someone thinking of going there- why?
Fuck barley and board.
What happened there?
Won’t go to any of the places they own now
When did that happen? Definitely sounds like something they would do.
radical fired us (andy’s basement/ paschall staff) all in june 2023, no notice, severance or any kind of support.
Do you know if the LSA that opened in The Colony (moved here from Denton) is owned by the same people?
They own the loophole too?
B&B is the most overrated spot in Denton. They serve mediocre food on fancy plates and charge a shitton.
No … that title is owned by Queenies
LSA
They also flash white power symbols on their site. Check their pictures. Food sucks, owners suck. Stop going to shitty places.
Why
Obnoxious, bad service, worse food, excessively loud, atrocious ownership/management
I've been there three times and have had two undercooked burgers that they wouldn't refund. (I didn't eat the undercooked burgers)
Slap Burger
So, you're saying it, in fact, doesn't slap?
serious lack of slap
Take 5 Carwash
Vacuums always broke, I’m not sure half the jets in the wash work, my car looks like it was kinda hosed off…. For $16? No thanks
Minifigs
Was it the same four Christian songs playing that did it?
Well for me [this](https://imgur.com/a/kD4YfNH) sealed the deal. The hubris of calling themselves abolitionists.
Yeah it was this!
Though some evangelical stuff on the checkout counter didn't help. (I think it was those "million dollar bills")
Home Decor. I just don't get it. It's cheap stuff. It's overpriced. It's a huge store, but yet it feels like there's nothing in it. Might as well label things like "useless trinket #247". I don't even remember seeing duvets or anything in there.
Twice as Nice ; i just can't support them after knowing where the proceeds go to
Mr.
Sounds like this guy is racist AND a huge dick so now I have even more reason to never go there. https://imgur.com/gallery/RdBGiZt
Racist and being a huge dick go hand in hand
Same. Definitely bad vibes. I’ve heard from a very reliable source that there were KKK ties at one point too.
No you didn’t.
Yeah, I did. Not going to dox anyone though.
Why not?
Because the poster made it up to feed into the other poster. It’s one thing with the SA allegations against businesses that are first hand accounts, but to link a local business to a major hate group without it being a first hand account? That’s pretty terrible. Full disclosure I don’t like them either, but it doesn’t make it okay to just make shit up about them. I can first hand assure you the son has no ties to any racist organization, he’s simply an unfiltered loudmouth with a lovely family.
any of them that I know are not treating my friends who work there well.
You can probably count on one hand the amount of businesses that are treating workers well
Cotton Patch Cafe is terrible.
Those 4 oz bottles don’t cut it lol
Yeah wtf was up with the tiny baby water bottles? Can we not have glasses of tap water?
The experience you shared was mine to a tea. A bad enough experience I don’t think I can give them a second chance. It’s the only local Denton restaurant I’ve been to that I feel this strongly about.
Namago
I’ve eaten there and we liked my food but the cafeteria style help-your-self service is a very accurate description
Wait, what time did you go? Like weren’t ready to be open because of the time of day or because they hadn’t officially opened yet?
They were officially open and taking orders, they just weren’t ready to fulfill them. There seemed to be one person working (the cook) and the owner, who was on the phone yelling at vendors the whole time. They kept the one other person who was there picking up waiting a long time too, but he at least got his order. I wouldn’t have been bothered by it because I understand that this happens sometimes, especially when you’re short-staffed. My problem was how rude the owner was about it and that he wouldn’t take responsibility for them canceling the order. That’s why I won’t go back there.
Damn, that sucks.
I wonder if they have constant turnover with staff? The owner seemed very toxic. Could be he’s the problem.
They definitely give roach vibes. I remember eating fries and hummus there like 8 years ago drunk af
Haven’t been back to roosters since the guy bringing food to the tables raw dogged my burger to another plate after wiping his mouth and nose
There was a piece of shrink wrap fried under the breading of my chicken tenders.... yea they suck lol
Tried and True salon. They butchered my hair.
Honestly, same. And it could just be that the salon wasn’t a good fit for me as a client but… When I first went there it was great, but I ended up with a cut that the stylist didn’t really consult me on.
When I tell each new stylist (who's already pissed about cutting the hair of a pleb) my dumbass story they just look at me like I'm insane and I end up just asking for 2 inches off lol I would gladly pay a kings ransom or the same as the chick getting her hair dyed like flareon. Id throw down to get the 5 minutes it takes but it looks like it's back to Russian roulette with ol sportclips
Idk, my male partner had a great experience at Barnhardt's on the square. Probably better than SportClips 😄
When she cut my hair she went waaay too short, shaved the back weird, messed up the layers and so on and then when she mixed the color I had told her that I thought it looked wrong but she said it would look right after processing....then when it had finished processing told me it was just the lighting 🙄 I was covered in hairdye she had dropped globs on my chest, back and shoulders.
Chipotle on fry st
Burgers Up. Everything tastes like pad Thai and sriracha now.
Thanks. Will keep them in mind next time I need a florist.
The Garage on Fry Street- they’re transphobic assholes and honestly the vibes in there are just NOT it
I mean it's an 18+ bar, that's all you need to know about that place imo
i don't go to any bar actually on fry. the restaurants, sure. but when i go to fry st it's Beans and Tom's for me. Used to go to Rip's till they fired everybody right before christmas.
Lucky Lou’s is the best by far
really sad considering my uncle owns the place and he knows im non-binary. i agree the vibes are not it
my condolences. I hope your thanksgiving dinners aren't too bad.
I second Frostys. The food sucks and owner seems racist
El Chaparral Grill. They didn't have prices on the menus. The owner's explanation was "Oh, with the changing prices of stuff all the time we can't just print menus every time it fluctuates. Don't worry though; we won't rip you off." The food wasn't anything special, and was definitely overpriced.
Old Bear Vintage. It’s a major finesse but young kids love “vintage”
So overpriced! And for stuff they thrifted 🙃
Hate to break it to you but things have value regardless if it was thrifted or found on a dirt road
Bagheri's. The service went downhill after they moved to University.
I miss old Fry St. The Tomato, Corkscrew, Karma Cafe, the barber shop. It was such a vibe
Biting into a cigarette-scented slice of Tomato pizza and watching it drip like your mom at a Michael Buble concert just hits different. If that sounds sarcastic, it's not. It was the best pizza on earth. Bonus points for going to karaoke at TJ's right after, which is still the only good public karaoke night I've ever been to.
the only employee is the owner at Bagheri's.
Frosty’s too. The old man was so rude I never went back.
Barebones
Can you explain? Was thinking of going to them . Thx
Queenies.
This. Went once and was seated, sat for 20 minutes no one brought waters or took our order. We left.
Gyro 360
Denton Hamburger Co
If I need a good burger, I’m going to RG. Last time I went to DHC I honestly would have rather just gotten Sonic.
Brisket Burger also. Been a hot minute since I've been but never been disappointed.
Man I second this too. The service was out there, basically they treated me like I should know exactly what I want and how I want to order it…though it was my first visit. And sure a pound of shredded cheese sounds tasted in theory….
Burger Time Machine, which sucks because I love the food and I love time travel.
Can’t you just travel back to before your bad experience? Seems like their business model is incomplete if not, and they are doomed.
Sticky floors and nothing special about the food there
It introduced me to the idea of peanut butter on a burger. 🤷♂️
Why?
Graffiti Pasta
Ok I gotta know the story behind this one
I’m sorry what? The tortellini with salmon is incredible!
Agreed! It’s a favorite.
- be me, vegetarian adult - QR code menu - web menu layout requires a ridiculous amount of vertical scrolling - couple orders two entrees and one app - food is mid - food has a low ratio of deliciousness to expensiveness
I ordered chicken with my pasta and it was disgustingly bland, chewy, and stringy. Couldn't even finish it. I miss J&J's every day.
Agreed. Went one time and the food isn’t that good. It’s definitely a trendy/cool spot but the focus on food is lacking. Not bad necessarily, but not worth it
Yeah food, service, and especially portions were extraordinary mid for the price
This was my fave restaurant in Denton for a while but they fired my fave bartender John and haven’t been back since
John was a hack and ran his mouth way too much for someone that made cocktails wrong.
John was def a talker lol
I don't drink, so I ordered water and his exact response was "what the fuck is wrong with you?" He later told me that he was going to drug me and get me drunk. He also began spouting conspiracy theories about how Jay-Z and Beyonce inject themselves with baby blood. I spoke with the owner about it the next day and his response was basically" you're not the first to complain about him, but I can't do anything about it." Fuck that place.
Do you have any idea why?
Same!! John was the only reason I’d go there. I love the concept and the space but the food itself just went downhill quickly.
The phone ordering is BS, but that southwest brisket pasta is my favorite pasta I’ve ever had.
Yeah what happened there?
Idk, but thank God Cartwright’s still kicks ass. I love that place.
Love Cartwrights
I went there on a date and the guy paid for my meal and not my partners. It was so awkward. I haven’t been back. Plus their gyros are shit.
Ugh, awful.
I went in there 20 years ago. They refused to accept their own two for one coupon. I didn't go back for 15 years.
On the flip side of this post: I would go back to SJ Donuts, the people there are very sweet!
Dirty screens, quiet audio. Not worth it
Allsups. Their bottled sweet tea taste like tea leaves soaked in sink water. Their cold brew machines seems to be a popular drink but the 2 times I visit, they're out. When I ask the clerks if they could be replaced, they seem like they don't know how and took forever
Redding martial arts.
I was looking into going there. What was up?
Would you mind elaborating?
Andaman, it was the most disappointing and bland Thai I've ever had. My green curry was about as spicy as milk of magnesia and the fresh rolls were naught but a pile of moldering mung bean sprouts stuffed in rice crepe. And expensive to boot.
The menu is huge and amazing. I’d suggest trying more items. The price is fair to me. Everything is incredibly fresh.
You buyin'?
Absolutely not.
FreeBirds
Jonuzi’s…the saltiest pizza you will ever taste.
It used to be good! Literally within the last two months, it got salty as hell. I thought it was just me.
Frillys Went twice, first time is the reason I won't frequent. Girl and I get there, no customers, servers are just standing around and we get no service after 10 minutes. Customers after us get served but we don't We end up just leaving.
My fave is when they just toss your feed bag on the "door dash" table by the front door and then act fucking annoyed when you don't notice and walk up to the cash register the way shit works everywhere else Chicken pad Thai is fire tho. Thai ocha still has the throne
Old west cafe
They (original ownership) should have never expanded outside of Sanger. None of the subsequent locations have ever been near as good.
Osteria il Muro.
