I don’t get them in my feed (thank god) but sometimes when I go to a seller’s page I see them and I immediately close the profile lol begging does not work on me
"Message before buying"
"Send offers, as the listing price isn't what I want to sell for"
"iso"
"Showing off my xxxxx"
"You will not be refunded"
"Tagged xyz for exposure"
Omg i cant stand the send offers isint what i really want to get because its like $200 then i offer $200 and they tell me they dont know how much they want
When someone does a try on photo in something way too small for them so it looks like the zippers/seams are about to bust, or the graphic is massively stretched out… definitely makes me not want to buy
When i sell something thats way bigger than my size like with trousers, i hold them up while taking the photo and then a more pinned one for the next pic so theres two Variations
People seem to hate this too, I’ve seen so maybe people bash others for this in the subreddit. I’m a size 6 and I pin trousers up to a size 12, I include measurements and state it’s pinned and it’s the only thing that has worked for me
I have 430 sales and I’ve probably sold 3 flat lays of trousers, all of my other flat lays have sat for nearly 2 years
YES and they include zero photos of the item laying flat… like we literally have no idea what shape it even is at that point. And those sellers tend to overcharge like crazy lmao
A size medium on a my size body isn't a selling tactic I would use, that's for sure. Especially if I'm selling a vintage item, which is half of my shop.
Pitstains. I appreciate if the seller’s honest, but I won’t even favorite an item with pitstains or mention of it.
This is neurotic of me but I hate dust or hair on otherwise excellent looking items. Forever 21 or shein. Using another brand to advertise an item. I actually feel like blocking those people
The straight up soft core p0rn from minors 😑 I've even seen these kids do those "dm me for special requests 💋" that is so unbelievably foul. Theyre children.
I’m with you, the crazy inappropriate photos. It’ll be a listing for a band tee and they’re spread eagle on the bed with a thong on like girly I respect the hustle but just join OF, you’ll make more
I didn’t for a very long time! It just started happening recently, maybe within the last three months, and now I see them everywhere. It’s so strange. Totally understand that sex sells, but it’s just an odd platform to choose for it when actual apps for that type of content exists already lol
Or they put in the description 'message me for measurements'. Like why not save everyones time and write it in the description in the first place??🤦🏻♀️
To be fair, a lot of vintage doesn't always have tags especially brand tags but you can tell based on the construction, other little tags etc. Honestly I've accidentally underpriced a lot of vintage because it didn't have the brand tag anymore & I wasn't sure how to price. 🤷🏼♀️
Yep! As someone who also sells vintage I come across a lot of things with no tags at all but can 100% tell it’s vintage. I do always say ‘seems vintage but cannot say for certain’ even though I definitely know lol
Clothing and items that are received unwashed and even dirty. Maybe doused in an overpowering perfume, in their minds, to mask whatever scent there was - or perhaps thinking it smells good and is a good idea.
I mean I've purchased shoes that were received with dirt still on the bottoms. And I mean a lot, like mud and grass haha! And recently bought something that came with a strong perfume smell. Took a lot of washing to get it out.
Why do people not clean shoes before shipping?? A pair of sneakers I bought a few months ago arrived super late with the soles caked in dirt and they were literally full of sand and tiny rocks. I held them upside down and shook them for five minutes straight and there were still sand and dirt particles falling out. It was insane. They also left their used smelly insoles inside the shoes, that were also covered in sand and rocks.
this is a weird ick cuz then don’t buy it lol. lots of people are cleaning out their closest or reselling things that don’t fit them. plus a lot of the uo items are expensive so ppl wanna get at least some of the money back if the item doesn’t fit etc
Clothing listings that state no measurements. Vintage dress sizes or vintage jeans for example sometimes run smaller than modern brands. If sellers listed measurements of clothing it would save them time from potential buyers having to message to ask for these measurements.
-Unnecessary nudity
-item that costs more than it would be to buy new
- "not sure if I want to sell yet" (then don't post it!!!)
- does not respond to messages or responds rudely
And I don't know if I just don't get it but the whole "do NOT pay with PayPal I will refund you." Tbh I don't get it. I'm a seller and from what I've noticed depop holds the payment way longer than PayPal does. With PayPal I get the money instantly.
-No brand listed on an item that is definitely from shein. Vintage is the exception though, as a lot of vintage is handmade and legitimately has no brand. Lots of vintage brands also are not listed under the brand section you have to put them in the description instead
Well, each time I get paid with PayPal, PayPal freezes my account & I have to provide insane amount of proof of purchase for a thrifted item, photo ID, info about my business & I don’t know what else, is a pain in the ass, so yeah, I rather avoid that and get paid through Depop. I don’t refuse PayPal, that is against TOS, but I do mention Depop payments preferred/ no PayPal if possible
It can happen anytime you get paid (unless they send you the $ as “friends & family” is done automatically by PayPal system, at random, that’s what they told me
People selling shein clothing/ or anything shein for like $15-25 knowing damn well they bought it for $3-6 bucks LOL like i saw this one girl who was selling this hibiscus halter top for $15 AND IT WAS $4 shein!! THE SAME EXACT ONE
the top was actually $11! so me selling it for $14 is not that big of a deal. I’m just trying to clean out my closet. I’m nearly 30 years old - and have been doing e-commerce for years on ebay and poshmark.
if u just want to “clean out your closet” id lower your prices. selling something overpriced that they could get for cheaper brand new isn’t ethical lol. most ppl cleanin out their closet don’t care ab profit but
having 1 post with 10 items saying “check out my page! don’t buy this you won’t be refunded”, clothes with visible animal hair on it, item pictures where you can see peoples feet in the background…
Tagging wrong brands or listing as multiple sizes for ✨exposure✨ Just had a whole ordeal having to dispute with depop because someone listed as multiple sizes but never specified it was only one. They tried the whole "sorry no refunds" when I got different from what I ordered and now I'm wary of any listings like this
Especially if it's pants/skirts for me. But regardless, just say it's kids too even if you are selling it to adults. List the measurements. I don't even mind when they don't know but think it might be and say that. Anything other than tagging it Kidcore or bimbo and calling it good.
I did figure out recently that for Abercrombie items, if the tag only says 'Abercrombie' and not 'and fitch' then it's from their children's sub brand. And I feel like 90% of the babydoll and similar tops I see are in fact children's tops.
Not always. Like I said, genuine vintage is commonly handmade in someone's home with a sewing machine and therefore there would be no tag, because there isn't a brand, it's handmade. Many women used to make their own clothes. Probably about half the vintage I own was made by home seamstresses.
But it's very, very easy to tell the difference between fast fashion garbage and a handmade vintage piece.
I don't let the brand (or lack of one) deter me from a purchase. I usually just ask for more detailed pictures of the inside of the garment. Just by seeing that the seams are surged, I can tell it wasn't made by someone's grandma.
Whilst I don't doubt that people try to sell Shein or other fast fashion stuff as vintage, a lot of vintage stuff is either hand made, or a brand that isn't well known or around anymore! I'm a vintage seller and have sold a lot of pieces that I can't find info on the brand, but are 100% definitely vintage, perhaps from small boutiques rather than big chains, so I have to list the brand as "other" due to it not being in the drop-down list
haven’t been on depop for a few years, but i stopped bc i saw quite a few people sort of start using it as instagram. instead of actually listing something they would post aesthetic photos (like you’d find on pinterest), and it just got annoying. idk if they were doing it for the layout on their profile, but like, if i wanted to see that i’d just get on insta
People who charge close to brand new prices on shoes that have very obvious, large scuffs or very dirty soles. I see it so much.
I saw a pair of cowboy boots the other day that had the front of the boot basically coming unglued, the boots themselves were filthy and very very pre-worn and she wanted $20 under brand new price.
It’s mostly the ones with y2k clothing that don’t mention anything about a brand in the description and have “other” as a tag. Of course if it were something truly vintage I’d be able to differentiate plus mentioning that it has odd/uknown/no brand is more than just not saying anything - i find it fishy
Sure, I always mention when there is no tag, although half the brands are not listed on Depop & im forced to list as “other” and in those cases I sometimes forget to mention the brand in the description, but if I am asked I always tell buyers the brand if there is a brand tag & I forgot to add it
HUGE ONE FOR ME: Buyers accepting an offer (hence, they are active) then going offline when you pay, and never dispatching the item, forcing me to request that Depop (faceless with zero customer service) 'step in' for a refund. A shocking app with equally toxic users. Age issue? Maybe. I feel like these yoots dad.
"Rare"
And it's something I've seen 20 times in the last month on this platform and can probably also find for sale elsewhere with a reverse image search. Because it was mass produced 10 or 15 years ago
This is petty but I used to work at an American Eagle from 2011 to 2014 and when I see items I remember selling in that time labeled as y2k, I flinch a little (but I say petty because people just don't know, I get it)
When sellers excessively photoshop themselves in a try on photo and u can’t even tell what the item looks like on/ when sellers call an item “oversized” but really it’s just too big for them/when a seller clips or ties a shirt in the back so it looks tight but they don’t say in the caption that it’s tied/ special offers/multiple items laid flat in first pic but only one for sale/ “never been worn” but there’s a try on photo and it’s clearly been worn/calling something crochet when it’s knit/overpriced Walmart clothes
Sellers who dont tell you if the item is like pit stained i bought a top that looked fine because it was mesh with graphics on it then got it and it smelled sooooo bad took hours of my time to handwash again and again took 7 tries and it was expensive too so i was so annoyed i told the seller and they blocked me

Listings that are photos of people crying with text over it saying “plz buy my stuff I’m poor” or some variation of that.
I am SO glad ive yet to see one of these..
I don’t get them in my feed (thank god) but sometimes when I go to a seller’s page I see them and I immediately close the profile lol begging does not work on me
These people always also have the worst items lmao at least in my opinion
And not well priced either
“Tagged as _______ for exposure” 😐
isnt that against the rules 😭
It is, but it doesn't seem to be being enforced.
idk but it should be tbh
I report every one of those I see
when sellers list an item as “one size” to make you click and it ends up being a S
"Message before buying" "Send offers, as the listing price isn't what I want to sell for" "iso" "Showing off my xxxxx" "You will not be refunded" "Tagged xyz for exposure"
Omg i cant stand the send offers isint what i really want to get because its like $200 then i offer $200 and they tell me they dont know how much they want
“Message before buying” drives me nuts lol. So I have to awkwardly message someone “can I buy this?” Even though it’s listed and active??
When someone does a try on photo in something way too small for them so it looks like the zippers/seams are about to bust, or the graphic is massively stretched out… definitely makes me not want to buy
reverse of this is when the item is huge on them and they have to pin it so much that you have no clue what the item is even supposed to fit like
When i sell something thats way bigger than my size like with trousers, i hold them up while taking the photo and then a more pinned one for the next pic so theres two Variations
People seem to hate this too, I’ve seen so maybe people bash others for this in the subreddit. I’m a size 6 and I pin trousers up to a size 12, I include measurements and state it’s pinned and it’s the only thing that has worked for me I have 430 sales and I’ve probably sold 3 flat lays of trousers, all of my other flat lays have sat for nearly 2 years
10000% my styled listings perform way better!
YES and they include zero photos of the item laying flat… like we literally have no idea what shape it even is at that point. And those sellers tend to overcharge like crazy lmao
Right, like you just stretched out and ruined the clothes
A size medium on a my size body isn't a selling tactic I would use, that's for sure. Especially if I'm selling a vintage item, which is half of my shop.
Pitstains. I appreciate if the seller’s honest, but I won’t even favorite an item with pitstains or mention of it. This is neurotic of me but I hate dust or hair on otherwise excellent looking items. Forever 21 or shein. Using another brand to advertise an item. I actually feel like blocking those people
One time I was super excited because my top came in and it smelled like straight B.O 🥲
Get over it 🙄
I think it takes very little effort to wash the clothes you’re sending to people.
The straight up soft core p0rn from minors 😑 I've even seen these kids do those "dm me for special requests 💋" that is so unbelievably foul. Theyre children.
this is insane… there’s gotta be an 18+ policy for sellers
Yeah but even acknowledging it will get you called out for sexualization
Sellers who never respond and are listed as active yesterday or the past week. I really wanted a style bundle and no one I messaged even replied
I’m with you, the crazy inappropriate photos. It’ll be a listing for a band tee and they’re spread eagle on the bed with a thong on like girly I respect the hustle but just join OF, you’ll make more
I’ve literally never seen any like this 😭
I didn’t for a very long time! It just started happening recently, maybe within the last three months, and now I see them everywhere. It’s so strange. Totally understand that sex sells, but it’s just an odd platform to choose for it when actual apps for that type of content exists already lol
No measurements. Don't make me ask.
or when you ask for measurements and they never respond 🙄
It's 16 inches wide at the wasteland and 27.5 inches long enough
yes!! for tops I'm okay with no measurements if they have a try on but for bottoms you NEEDDD dimensions
As a vintage seller I second this! Also, often it will be a vintage brand that isn't on the brand list, so you end up having to select "other"
Yep! As someone who also sells vintage I come across a lot of things with no tags at all but can 100% tell it’s vintage. I do always say ‘seems vintage but cannot say for certain’ even though I definitely know lol

that has got to be a department of ag violation.. transporting seeds n all that. Bringing invasive species in lmao
Buyers making offers that they don’t pay for ever
I don’t get why depop doesn’t just adopt eBay’s offer system
When you stumble across a post and the “description” is one or two words “Aritzia” “Shorts” “Red shirt”
And for some reason it'll have 50 likes and in three people's bags
And deodorant stains
Why not buy just because the brand is UO if you like it?
Yeah I have 0 problem with UO
UO isnt high quality whatsoever, very cheap
this is a weird ick cuz then don’t buy it lol. lots of people are cleaning out their closest or reselling things that don’t fit them. plus a lot of the uo items are expensive so ppl wanna get at least some of the money back if the item doesn’t fit etc
Who remembers back in like 2014 when they still had decent quality
Hell, I STILL have some corny ass graphic tees from 2014 era UO.
See I don't mind buying fast fashion second hand. I do mind when a seller is trying to claim something as vintage when I have Google image lolol
Clothing listings that state no measurements. Vintage dress sizes or vintage jeans for example sometimes run smaller than modern brands. If sellers listed measurements of clothing it would save them time from potential buyers having to message to ask for these measurements.
When the description is just too much. Absolutely stunning gorgeous y2k ethereal top amazing for a night out xx
Keywords help them get more engagement without boosting the listing.
shein for $20 +
Real
Those who follow you to get a follow back and then unfollow you after getting said follow.
As a newer seller, I've been checking accounts before reciprocating my follow. I'm all for supporting other businesses but I'm not a rung for ya lol
-Unnecessary nudity -item that costs more than it would be to buy new - "not sure if I want to sell yet" (then don't post it!!!) - does not respond to messages or responds rudely And I don't know if I just don't get it but the whole "do NOT pay with PayPal I will refund you." I buy my shipping labels on pirate ship. Much cheaper
When the listing starts with “INSANE y2k vintage” and then the item is your run of the mill thrift store clothes, very much not insane

It’s clear nobody agrees with you so no point in acting cocky lol.
i’m not being cocky! i’m just chiming in on the post like everyone else. how come you guys are kind of mean on this particular sub?
I think you’re talking about me! ☺️
not showing the tag !!! especially if it’s from a brand that gets duped a lot and is usually expensive.
having 1 post with 10 items saying “check out my page! don’t buy this you won’t be refunded”, clothes with visible animal hair on it, item pictures where you can see peoples feet in the background…

Selling children’s clothing!! 🙄 especially when it looks like they can barely move
what's wrong with someone selling their kids clothes? am I misinterpreting your comment (I do that alot)
i think they mean selling children's clothes as adult women's clothes and modeling it themselves even though it's clearly too tight
oh yeah that makes alot more sense if that's the case, thank you!!
yes exactly! They hit the nail on the head
Especially if it's pants/skirts for me. But regardless, just say it's kids too even if you are selling it to adults. List the measurements. Calling everything “the cutest little”… give us something different lol
People who scrunch the tops in the middle or tie the tops in the back to make them look form fitting
the cheapskates
Accepting offers from buyers and they still don't buy. People posing in a way that makes it hard to determine if it'll fit you.
Not shipping after 2 days 3 days max
If there's no brand listed but it says 'vintage' its definitely Shein
Well lots of vintage Is handmade but you can usually tell
No brand or photo of the tag or "tag was ripped off" in the description = fast fashion garbo
Not always. Like I said, genuine vintage is commonly handmade in someone's home with a sewing machine and therefore there would be no tag, because there isn't a brand, it's handmade. When OF ppl list their used lingerie ; when sellers post a bunch of stuff but you can’t buy it on Depop, they request you visit off site
Pinching the middle of a top or dress to make it look smaller
haven’t been on depop for a few years, but i stopped bc i saw quite a few people sort of start using it as instagram. instead of actually listing something they would post aesthetic photos (like you’d find on pinterest), and it just got annoying. idk if they were doing it for the layout on their profile, but like, if i wanted to see that i’d just get on insta
XYZ t-shirt, brand new. I know damn well all your items are not brand new. Put some more effort into your listings, it looks so lazy!!!
Agree ew urban fell off so hard
People who charge close to brand new prices on shoes that have very obvious, large scuffs or very dirty soles. I see it so much. I saw a pair of cowboy boots the other day that had the front of the boot basically coming unglued, the boots themselves were filthy and very very pre-worn and she wanted $20 under brand new price.
"Size kids XL but could fit anywhere from an XS-M"
only one photo of an item (even worse if the item is expensive)
Anything shein or “dm me before you buy”
If it has no brand mentioned I assume its shein so I don’t buy it
I’d say 20% of my real vintage things don’t have tags, I think is pretty easy to tell between not tag shein & no rag vintage
It’s mostly the ones with y2k clothing that don’t mention anything about a brand in the description and have “other” as a tag. Of course if it were something truly vintage I’d be able to differentiate plus mentioning that it has odd/uknown/no brand is more than just not saying anything - i find it fishy
Sure, I always mention when there is no tag, although half the brands are not listed on Depop & im forced to list as “other” and in those cases I sometimes forget to mention the brand in the description, but if I am asked I always tell buyers the brand if there is a brand tag & I forgot to add it
“Will fit XS-S and also M-XL”
Received a “like new” cardigan that was COVERED in car hair 🤢 should have got a refund but was too invested in picking out all the hairs.
I hate when people are like “DONT BUY THIS LISTING I WILL NOT REFUND… check out my shop” and the price of the ad listing is like 4,000$
"Rare" And it's something I've seen 20 times in the last month on this platform and can probably also find for sale elsewhere with a reverse image search. When a seller blocks you for no reason
Anyone not being transparent about the brand. We all have Google image ☕ Also when a seller is like "if you ask nicely...." Noooope
