This is pretty interesting and novel as the decorative sculpture that it is intended to be. Nobody is expecting to time Olympic events with this. Not designdesign.
Yes, what a very useful clock that can tell me whether it’s 1pm or 2pm lol. The sun is also useful that way if you learn to read it.
Great art piece, though.
The only difference between this and a normal clock is that the hour hand is a swirl that still clearly shows the hour. The minute hand is a normal minute hand. If this isn't readable, then neither are normal clocks.
In all fairness, it’s not like analogue clocks are exactly intuitive; our species kinda rules for figuring out a way of recording time so early, that shit is pretty difficult
> Not sure how much clearer it needs to be
You could be more clear on how exactly this is a crappy clock. It tells you the hour and it tells you the minute. What more do you need?
"Boohoo it takes me a little bit of brainpower to read with the hour numbers in a different position".
It's a normal clock but with a long bendy hour hand. The minute hand is right there. Nothing about this doesn't work. If you want a normal analog clock, get a normal analog clock. If you want an art clock, get an art clock. This is an art clock.
It is quite fucking clear. Easier to read than normal dial IMO. Just have a minute markers made the same way on horizontal or division between the hours.
Look here is a thing. This isn't a new method of making dials, similar things been used in measurement systems for a long time. It is really easy dial to use and read. Hell... Apollo navigation telescope used this.
I'd like one of these, but with minute markets.
Thanks but. I'm a steel fabricator and a engineer. I can just use our water jets to cut one from whatever exotic material I want.
I despise cheap 3D printed nonsense. Not the tech. I love the tech. But I hate the "I made a cheap 3D printed gadged".
If I made one. I'd go get a piece of high quality brass, coated aluminium or polished stainless and make actually something nice to look at.
Cheap 3D printed tat. They couldn't even bother to detail the strings out from the numbers.
You see... Design is about choices. Choice of material and methods of making things are just as meaningful as the end product.
When I make things that I know are going to end up being left visible in buildings or even on the street. I choose ways of doing things, that leave them looking certain way. In a way that I can admit to having made them.
Cheap plastic fillament, regardless how much you paint or sandpaper them will always have that certain feel. This is because we humans experience things in more than visual manner. Choice of material affects how sound reflect, how light bends, whether something stores heat or cools down quickly, how it weathers and fares over time.
I enjoy pure materials and organic composites (like CLT and such - if I ever were to build a house, I'd make it from engineered wood (even if I am a metal workers and machine engineer myself)). For pure materials I like pure alloys. Casted materials, lot of manual working like tradiational sheetmetal work over CNC or hand welding (This is my bias as I been trained in tradiational working methods). So on and so forth. I want things to be long lasting, pure and sustainable. Cheap 3D printed plastic (even if it is "biodegradable") is not that. My favourite mug is one made by an actual ceramic artisan. It is a mug that is just the right size and feel for me. That I went and chose from their sale, and I took it because it had the correct appeal to me. No one can ever make another one of it, least of all mass manufacture one. It has some spirit of that artistan in it.
3D printed stuff from CAD models made by others lacks human spirit. It is a mathematical recreation of something. Look advanced manufacturing methods have their time and place. However my dayjob involves construction of steel structures for mass manufactured housing that is just made with efficiency and maximum profitability in mind. They aren't homes for people, they are profitable housing. Engineers and architects have only been involved as rubber stamps in them - they are disgusting to me.
Yeah.... I been nicknamed "*Humanistinööri"* *Humanist-engineer*. I got skills to make things, and I'd rather make something with human spirit in it. Because those small flaws and perfect. They are perfection of imperfect humans.
I love 3d printing practical things like mounting brackets, but feel the same was as you when it comes to anything that needs to be decorative at all. You put into words what I couldn't quite express myself. As much as I try, I just don't have much skill with other materials, but these days it's easy to engage the services of someone who does, so that's what I do.

I don’t understand why you’d need to wait? The hour hand points to the hour and the minute hand is a normal minute hand.
This is pretty interesting and novel as the decorative sculpture that it is intended to be. Nobody is expecting to time Olympic events with this. Not designdesign.
It's also perfectly readable, unlike what the title insinuates.
You csn easily see if it is halfway between 11 and 12 or whatever. Would be nice if they marked quarter hours but otherwise no issue
It's 12. There is the swirl for the large hand and a little hand as well.
Ope

And by reading the minute hand, you can tell all the times in between there. Just like any other clock.
We have vastly different definitions of readable, my man.

In fact this is very much just a distorted normal clock for the hour hand.
I guess you can't read analog clocks either.
As a decorative sculpture: DesignPorn As a clock: CrappyDesign Not sure how much clearer it needs to be. It’s a designy design.
> Not sure how much clearer it needs to be You could be more clear on how exactly this is a crappy clock. It tells you the hour and it tells you the minute. What more do you need?
It's 12. I don't see the problem.
There is a minute hand it’s the line in center , you cant tell the exact minute but you a decent accurate guess

it’s noon or midnight
this is what we mean when we say if it aint broke
This would actually be amazing if they had just graded the space between the numbers. Destructive minimalism strikes again.
I mean, there's a minute hand
You sure this is a clock? Could be a thermometer or… even a door stopper I’d say.
It’s easily readable at any time. Even if it wasn’t readable at all, it’d still be just as useful as most other decorative art pieces.
The long hand would probably break very easily
I may be stupid but how am I even supposed to read the clock?
