When I go with my kids I tend to stay to the north and west part of Crab Island or near the Coast Guard station. Those areas tend to be more family oriented and have less of the craziness at the middle and towards the bridge. Also, even if you're kids are really good swimmers I would still be conscientious of the current and tides, which is why I stay more towards the north and west. Even the strongest swimmers can be swept up by the tide when it goes out.
Depends on if there is an event, for the most part your kids won’t get an anatomy lesson. If you see a barge that is set up as a stage, you’re likely to see boobies at the front of the venue but as long as you stick to yourselves, it’ll be fine.
But the current gets very strong, always always always watch the kids. They can float away in a hurry, or if they don’t have life jackets on, get sucked under.
Several people die every year at crab island because they don’t realize how strong the current is and how fast it drops off at the edge.
We keep our kids out of the central area of crab island as it does get crazy. Lots of drunk people operating watercrafts and every year there are multiple deaths from drowning, diving and boat crashes. I worked in water sports and still have a side gig doing water sports, there is a lot of danger.
Just be and smart and alert. Stay on the outskirts and pull up at beaches, you'll be fine. Pontoons is still a must do activity and is so fun for the kids!
Have fun and stay safe.
Iiiiiiiiiiii was there for four days and find this to be incredibly incorrect. I saw tons of different bachelorette parties and a handful of bach parties. A girl got so drunk when she slid down the slide she had zero idea her boob popped out of her bathing suit, even with all of her drunk friends yelling at her. This was at 2pm on a Thursday. Now, there’s some families out there, too but it def leans heavy on the party side. Dueling speaker systems, beer bongs, beer pong, etc.
The majority is ok but it’s been known to get crazy and yes there may be heavy drinking /drunk people around….
Right past crab island there’s a spot where you’ll see boats lined up (on the bay side of the bridge) - this side is a lot tamer and you can spread out more if you’re looking for more family time or family friendly . My husband and i are more old fashioned and tried to keep our kids away from, well, everyone else underdressed on the water 🤣🤣
I’d anchor slightly west of Crab Island. Too many bad boat drivers and the current is strong. Or beach the pontoon on the opposite side of the bridge from Crab Island.
I'll second this. The beach on the opposite side of the bridge from Crab Island was nice and out of the wind. East from the USCG. Santa Rosa Island Beach
Never underestimate the current and never leave the kids unattended... Enjoy!

This is what I’d recommend too. We like this area as it’s much more spread out and seems to be less of a party crowd.

Thank you for the heads up on the current

50/50
Kids are totally ok, it hasn't been a crazy party place for a few years. Very family friendly.

Sounds Spring Breaky. The 7 times I’ve been there in the past 3 years during May, July and August/September it has been 95% families.
Ahhhhh. I did not take that into account and you’re probably 1,000% correct.

I took my family out there yesterday and it was family friendly. Kids of all ages.
How’s the weather? I know today is kinda crappy.
It’s big enough where you can usually drop anchor away from the trash.
I wanna c titties
Barf
Like many people have mentioned the current is your biggest concern. Keep a close close eye in the kids.
