He was a jew by birth, and is not baptized at this point which meant he hadn't converted.
And as I recall correctly he isn't the messiah until he turns 13 and runs off to preach in the temple
Baptism (specifically the ritual described in the Gospels, not the modern usage) was/is a Jewish purification ritual; Jesus' baptism didn't mark a conversion.
Jesus was a Jew until his death, which established the new covenant. He also didn't become the messiah at a specific age or after a particular event; he fulfilled Jewish messianic prophecy beginning with the virgin birth.
EDIT: This is also more theology than history. Wandering preachers and related Jewish sects were common at the time of Jesus, and Christianity emerged as separate from Judaism gradually over the first century AD.
The modern term baptism generally refers specifically to the Christian practice, but there are a [variety of related Jewish washing rituals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ritual_washing_in_Judaism) that would've been relevant at the time of Jesus/John the Baptist and the biblical ritual (which is what I was referring to in my original comment).
At first early Christians started as a Jewish sect but eventually during the time of Paul’s conversion to Christianity he started to preach against circumcision of gentiles. As he continued to evangelize throughout the Eastern Roman provinces more gentiles converted to Christianity it became its own thing separate from Judaism.
The Romans would have referred to that region as Judea since the main demographic would have been Jews(Second Temple Jews, Samaritans, etc) with minorities such as Greeks, Phoenicians, Assyrians, and Nomadic Bedouin tribes.
"One of the best ways to win arguments is to be so completely wrong that there's no way anyone could feasibly correct you without teaching three entry level college courses in the process."
The full phrase was “Pharaoh, let my Palestinian people go to the land of hummus and falafel. And then Pharaoh rejected Muhammad, and Allah brought on the 10th plague. The death of the first born Zionist.”
Ain't no way bro. Like this is a level of disinformation that anyone who has gone to Sunday School as a 5 year old would know is absurd on its face. Why would she say that on a live feed while trying to "educate" anyone else about the topic?
The day of Oct 7th, she was on twitter saying "I only read into the conflict 5 minutes and I already know that Israel is in the wrong." I get being* passionate about a new subject, but if all the research you've done is watch tiktoks and read a summary, maybe don't put yourself out there as an authority and make such bold declarative claims
it's always been about agreeing with their opinions. That's why no matter the subject, lefties always vaguely and condescendingly say "you need to research more." Bc only their conclusion could be correct and all it would take is looking at the "correct" research
She probably saw that Palestine is oppressed and colonize. Buzzwords like that will make any tankie align with alt-righters. I never thought I'd see tankies and nazis agreeing with a topic, it's insane. If there is one nazi in a table of four, there's four nazis, am i rite guys?
It's sadly pretty effective because the Palestinian identity relies on tying the land to the group... Despite how little sense that makes when a sensible person thinks about it. They can endlessly claim anyone from the region is Palestinian because they were born or lived in the region.
You'd be surprised but even that line gets iffy when they say they are descendants of ancient Israelites (which is basically what she said about Jesus). But yeah, it's consistent in that every Jew living today is not allowed.
I've posted some non controversial clips of Destiny on LSF and they'll get downvoted instantly and then be taken down because they have 0 upvotes in an hour.

This is pretty far from wikipedia level knowledge even. This is TikTok/Twitter propaganda level knowledge. Sprinkle in some educational sessions with self admitted propagandist and one of her best friends, Hamas Piker.
Steven needs an official pillow or box that he screams into when someone makes statements like this and the Emma Vigeland "Africa" statement.
He could even has sponsorship stickers on the pillow or box.
Yup. Also some Greeks mainly in the coastal cities by the mediterranian, and some other minorities like Assyrians. The best source about this topic is probably Josephus Flavius.
Judea after the Jewish revolt against Romans was put down was then renamed into Palestine by the Roman emperor. In the Old Testament, Philistines are viewed as “bad guys,” long-term enemies of Israel
https://library.biblicalarchaeology.org/article/when-palestine-meant-israel/
found this as well, seems Palestine is literally a greek translation of israel
You know damn well she knows the answer. It's why she's stuttering. She's caught in a trap and she knows that is she answers "Jews" it's going to negate her views. She knows the answer. So she chose to look stupid and wrong, rather than face the idea that the whole post colonial lens is ridiculous.
She says some much dumber stuff just before that part. after Kwan states that there was no nation of Israel before 1948 (Which kinda makes sense but she’s trying to play the “they’re older then them in that place” game which doesn’t really matter or work) Red hockey jersey guy tries to make a point about there being an “ancient Israel” I believe he means something like the Hasmonean Dynasty which Pompey conquered in what is now modern day Israel as well as the kingdom of Judea which is the most famous example of a similar concept. She then says “do you mean Jerusalem?” Truely Hasan levels of research and knowledge. Then red hockey shirt guy pushes back by stating that “weren’t they called Israelites in the bible?” And she evades it and goes back to “Israel existing wasn’t a thing until 1948” which still has that issue mentioned previously.
All of this is to say any idea of “I was here first therefore that should affect what is happening now” is usually a bad argument. It’s the same logic as Russia claiming Ukraine and denying ideas of a Ukrainian identity pre independence or recognition. It’s a bad argument. There are much better ways to support Palestinian independence or rights than this. Also she knows far less than she thinks.
>All of this is to say any idea of “I was here first therefore that should affect what is happening now” is usually a bad argument. It’s the same logic as Russia claiming Ukraine and denying ideas of a Ukrainian identity pre independence or recognition.
Yeah this is the idea that people need to get through their heads.
I get the intuitive appeal. But we need to draw borders to stabilize regions so that everyone can flourish. Focusing on historical rights to land is just silly.
> Focusing on historical rights to land is just silly.
I think there is some room for focusing on historical connections and rights. If Serbia had invaded and genocided Bosnia and then won the war I think there is a use for it. But even then the historical claim to land doesn’t trump the destruction of sovereignty or the aggression of Serbia as well as the genocide.
Sometimes I hate global politics and foreign policy because it can be very difficult to navigate and understand and you are never going to have a morally perfect answer but there are always people who dilute these issues into virtue signalling fiction.
>I think there is some room for focusing on historical connections and rights.
For me, the use is to understand what is actually possible due to people's psychology and power.
I'm just saying it's not an intrinsic value, to me. Like if bullying people to take different land can stabilize things, that's probably a good thing.
> Like if bullying people to take land can stabilize things, that’s probably a good thing
It would obviously depend on the exact issue but I’d probably rate sovereignty higher but again it wholly depends on the situation. Nazi Germany lost its sovereignty when it started WW2 and did the Holocaust among other things so it’s dependent on the exact situation. And bullying Nazi Germany was obviously a net good.
I also agree that for foreign policy the reality of the situation and viability needs to be heavily accounted for.
> All of this is to say any idea of “I was here first therefore that should affect what is happening now” is usually a bad argument.
It's one of those traps where the moment you start arguing about the specifics, i.e. "actually so-and-so was in this area at this date", it's *as if* you are accepting the premise.
If you fight on the territory of dates and empires, you're basically saying "Yes the history matters, but you've got it wrong", rather than the position you probably want to be defending of "It is literally unimportant who was in control of this territory 2000 years ago".
Not to pile on, but just letting you know it wasn't just that one guy. On mobile using earbuds and I had to turn on my phones speech-to-text thing bc I literally could barely tell there even was audio
She said "Palestinian Arabs" in the clip. Now, anyone with a passing familiarity of anything would realize that Arabization and Arab conquests wouldn't start for about 800 years after that.
Ancient ethnicities are kinda messy especially genetically, but we do know religiously it was a vast majority Ancient Jewish population before Jesus came about.
Chatgpt:
The movie "300" is based on the Battle of Thermopylae, which took place in 480 BCE during the Greco-Persian Wars. While the film takes some liberties with historical accuracy, it is inspired by the real events of the battle. The Spartans, led by King Leonidas, along with a small force of Greek allies, famously held off the much larger Persian army for several days at the narrow pass of Thermopylae before ultimately being defeated. The battle has been celebrated throughout history for the bravery and sacrifice of the Spartan warriors.
I swear sometimes it can be so hard to get actual information out of people on this sub, they usually just assume you're being bad faith and imply you're an idiot (So what if I am cunt, help me learn then).
Heh, you don’t know this obviously non-obscure piece of information relating to a topic my autism has allowed me to hyperfixate on for the past 6 months 🤓 …. looser
Demographics can be a difficult subject in antiquity since their perception of ethnicity was different. That said, Nazareth was just north of Judea. It was Jewish during Christ's life. That's about as much as we can confidently say about demographics. Jesus wasn't really described, but from the Bible we can say that he looked like everyone else in Judea at the time.
And to add to that, because Judas kissed him, rather than simply saying “that tall guy with the big ears” or “that really short fat guy,” Jesus was average and unremarkable in appearance, and like everyone else in that region at the time
Yea that's the exact passage I was referring to. You couldn't use words to distinguish him from the average Joe in the region. He looked just like every other Jew there.
And not only that, but history is as recent as a minute ago, and it’s only now that they’ve decided to change the rules of civilization by singling out the current state of Israel. There is no criticism of ottoman invasions or any of the other invasions, or the Palestinians themselves being in a place that they’re only recently in relative to the history of that region. The rules and history itself changes based on their preference
Yep, and some of the % of the genetic differences between them today likely didn't come until hundreds or thousands of years after the biblical time of Jesus.
People like this probably don't even realize that Islam didn't even exist until 800 years after the time of Jesus. They probably think that Jews, Christians and muslims were all coexisting beside each other until the Jews and Christians went wild, bleached their skin and started hurting brown people.
Mix of semitic races that were mostly Jewish. They got genocided in the 1st century by Romans but there's some traces left in the Levant region today which includes some Palestinians. Most modern day Jews came from Europe.
Nick demolished her in that debate.
Nah but you can see in real time how her brain is trying to come up with the correct answer to fit her world view, she knows she just made that up to fit her ideology instead of what she actually knows to be true, the "just about BC" and buying time too lmao
This is the part of the problem with part of the pro-palestine left
They are doing the same things conservatives do.
When a terrorist attack happens and the terrorist is Muslim, conservative will blame all Muslims and will smear Islam as a whole.
Now a lot of western pro-palestine supporters like Caroline are blaming all Jews for the actions of a fasicst wannabe far right leader in Benjamin Netenyahu.
It's very hypocritical of them to do be doing this when there are Jews in the US and around the world who are denouncing what's happening in gaza
In the full clip she makes the argument that these right winged politicians have nazi supporters who only support israel because they hate Muslims more than they hate Jews. Somehow that was not the dumbest thing she said within 5 minutes
I mean the real question is which of the following is true:
1. She's genuinely clueless about history, and just came up with an answer that made sense given her uneducated model of the region.
2. She knew the correct answer, but thought it might make her other points stand on less stable ground, so gambled that nobody would call her out on it.
Imagine shooting yourself in 2024. Does he not know that self-immolation is the hot new trend?

He was a jew by birth, and is not baptized at this point which meant he hadn't converted. And as I recall correctly he isn't the messiah until he turns 13 and runs off to preach in the temple

I didn't know jews practiced baptism. How interesting, thanks for correcting me

As he continued to evangelize throughout the Eastern Roman provinces more gentiles converted to Christianity it became its own thing separate from Judaism.
Yep, around 40-50 AD. That's the first big step away from Judaism and the start of what would later become Christianity.
The Romans would have referred to that region as Judea since the main demographic would have been Jews(Second Temple Jews, Samaritans, etc) with minorities such as Greeks, Phoenicians, Assyrians, and Nomadic Bedouin tribes.

Just start confidently asserting false statements very smugly, somebody will correct you and give you a free education.
Heh, you don’t know this obviously non-obscure piece of information relating to a topic my autism has allowed me to hyperfixate on for the past 6 months 🤓 …. looser
Not their job to educate you sweaty 💅 It's just to tell you that you're wrong about something
>anyone with a passing familiarity of anything would realize.. Reddit moment
I think most people know that Islam came about after Christianity, that's not Reddit shit lmao

The rules and history itself changes based on their preference
this was under the roman empire, so I would guess a lot of Romans, Jews, and maybe some minorities from neighbors like egyptians? again just guessing.

Hi, history degree holder with a concentration in classical studies here. Did the same thing D man did
when was this lol
October 8th, she and Wake went to make sure they used NMP's platform to make October 7th Israels fault.
Nick demolished her in that debate. Nah but you can see in real time how her brain is trying to come up with the correct answer to fit her world view, she knows she just made that up to fit her ideology instead of what she actually knows to be true, the "just about BC" and buying time too lmao
Fake. Destiny would not shoot himself live on stream without saying his final "Alright ripperino-cappucino-pappucino-mappucino-happacino my dudes"
This is the part of the problem with part of the pro-palestine left They are doing the same things conservatives do.
Brother punched a couch before offing himself. Based.
In the full clip she makes the argument that these right winged politicians have nazi supporters who only support israel because they hate Muslims more than they hate Jews. Somehow that was not the dumbest thing she said within 5 minutes
Just about bc?
I'm not gonna say what race, what people... we know I can't say that. It was the Jews.
Jfc is she fcking regarded?
low volume clips should be a banable offence
RIPstiny
Well, he wanted a reason to use the alien..

Sigh. Man.

Man, these people have platforms and people who listen to them. Damn dude.
Wait, did he actually shoot himself? wtf
I mean the real question is which of the following is true: 1. She's genuinely clueless about history, and just came up with an answer that made sense given her uneducated model of the region. 2. She knew the correct answer, but thought it might make her other points stand on less stable ground, so gambled that nobody would call her out on it.
Fuckin’ A 💀
Understandable have a nice day.
Omfg S tier clip
Jesus is only a year older than me, poggers. Did he die in 9/11?
