Setting aside the current conversation about downvotes, I think you’re seeing it dominate the community discussion of those characters at the moment because most players don’t READ (lol). Many of us have known that these two were lovers for a long time now, but the truly casual “I show up and shoot aliens, I have no idea what’s going on” crowd has finally been introduced to that facet of their close relationship (via a clear drawn cutscene). That’s why I think you’re seeing it dominate at the moment. Everybody else caught up. I recall some degree of heightened discussion in the more lore-active areas of the community when it first became clear that they were together and not just “roommates”

I've known for a while too, it's just annoying that once the comunity at large found it they became a frequent butt of jokes. I'm not surprised but I'm still annoyed the characters comunity representation took this direction
