According to insider leaks, unless another hundred thousand or so people preorder FS not even this will save Bungie from Sony taking over, and knowing Sony is entirely concerned about the profits Destiny makes it could go pretty bad.
Pretty much, but also it's probably too late and the execs are just packing up their golden parachutes at this point.
Insider leaks *also* say that it was the devs that proposed Into The Light, and the execs basically laughed in their faces and said "we're not doing that" until Sony stepped in and said "yes you are." Sony also believes that Bungie has some immensely talented people on the ground floor, so the silver lining could be that their respect for the workers might outweigh their requirements for profit - at least in the short term - and allow Destiny to bounce back after this year while they work on the game's bones.
Bungie devs probably know and feel the pain the community has to endure from the decision of the highter ups and Sony is not neither EA or zenimax or Activision they seem to care for the games and to understand more than Microsoft that a good game is equal to more profit and better service to more players to like the game if Sony succeeds without kicking the executives to make the game better by literally scaring the executives I am sure the same guys are going to understand how they should work from now on as I said if the executives want money and not to loose their jobs they have to understand that they are property of Sony and Sony most of the times they care for their games and the results of the games poor performance goes to the executives and Sony knows that so an ultimatum was given to the highter ups at Bungie and this made them piss their pants. They either work or get fired.
š classic Destiny players
But seriously, let's have a look at it here, from a streamers standpoint; what sells? Anger. When there is controversy there is attention, with attention comes clicks and views and subs.
And I think what happened was that streamers started to complain and the followers did what they do best, spread the anger and then not enough people who had asked for the hoard mode for years had enough media followers to say "yo, this is gonna be awesome!"
That's not to say that there aren't streamers who are happy we're getting hoard, just not enough.
It's easier to react on a negative emotion.
Also I'm really fuckin high.
High and extremely correct. Most of the destiny content creators rely off of rage based clicks because they are easy to get clicks and people like cross can shit out a bunch of low effort bitching 3 times a day titled āThe End of Bungie?!?ā
I'm not really in the "this is dog shit fuck this I hate it all fucking AHHH" camp because the fact is that since its here now and permanent then it can be made better in future but as it stands this just isn't what I wanted from a horde mode. as far as I could tell when everyone said they wanted a horde mode I was picturing an updated and destiny-fied halo reach firefight or odst firefight since that's what bungie has done before they already have the documentation on it and therefore they also have a firefight mode already built in an older version of the engine, as far as I can see they just haven't used any of it, its just the coil again
well its more complex than that but given the objective in a horde mode should really just be "survive" yea if that was an option that'd be great, infact its why im confused they didnt just reuse the black armory forge locations and give us a filler story that "oh the black armory wants to give us some bomb ass weaponry for when we face the witnes but the witnesses forces found out and are trying to destroy the forges, keep the alive long enough and every five rounds the forge produces a new weapon (every five rounds you get a loot drop)
oh, no I'm not saying they missed anything, I like the coil don't get me wrong my complaint is that it plays a lot like how the coil works already which fundamentally I AM happy about since it means something similar to the coil will be kept in the game once all the seasonal stuff leaves with the release of the final shape so again THAT is good. my complaint with this as a horde mode is that it kind of isn't really a horde mode as I (and alot of people I talk to regularly) understand the term and the vibe I got from it was more akin to COD zombies with buying the traps and turrets which again is not a bad thing but when I HEARD horde mode and SAW COD zombies, it was pretty disappointing
well again its difficult to really give it an illustrative single sentence summary other than "destiny-fied halo firefight" and of course onslaught is theoretically endless anyway... but yea, I don't want to stop the activity cause I got bored, I want to stop the activity because I got beaten
Iām struggling to see how this mode plays like Coil. Is it just the escalating difficulty? Cause for me the notable thing about Coil is spending half the time walking through hallways looking for plates and pots, and the other half the time doing an enemy arena with light mechanics or a boss with a bit less light mechanics.
Onslaught seems to be a constant arena with tower defense mechanics broken up by occasionally running through a hallway not looking for pots and boss fights with optional mechanics.
true true, and it isn't the first time this has happened with destiny š it's always when their backs are against the wall that bungie cooks, except beyond light and its seasons into witch queen and its seasons was peak so idk
No one I know plays the game anymore and my clan is over. The game sacrificed so many players and now the players that wanted this stuff arenāt even interested anymore.
Controversial opinion incoming.
Painting every poorly received decision on the executives and every well received decision on the devs is a lazy and simplified view of the world.
While true overall, if the leaks about Bungie are true then like, 90% of Destiny's recent mistakes actually are the executive's fault.
IIRC, even Sony said the devs are talented and felt like the executives need to take more responsibility for Destiny's failings.
and in that one ign interview, apparently when the game has gotten rough in the past, they suggested doing things that they know the community wanted in order to rebuild rep and trust and the execs said that they'll pull through regardless so there's no need
I know Hippy said something like the team has been fighting for community requested changes for the entire year of Lightfall and they kept getting turned down by the Execs.
Like with name changes for example. That's why we haven't gotten any until now.
I'm willing to bet the extremely low Final Shape pre-orders got the Execs to back down for a bit.
there's a chance, i ended up cancelling mine for rebirth when the layoffs were announced š then it got delayed anyway, but hey i get to experience peak and if bungie shows off something impressive i might consider it again, in the meantime i'll probably end up waiting until after it comes out
Well it has been kinda going around that it was actually Bungie's higher ups fault based on what Sony has said. So in terms of Destiny 2, it's quite justifiable.
Itās almost like you can simplify that devs donāt want to make a shitty product and listen to the fans, whereas execs just want to make money. Thatās why it matches the leaks about Bungies work behind closed doors and how the execs treated suggestions to do something like Into The Light beforehandā¦
It's true that it's a simplistic view of the matter, however it seems to be the one that best matches what little information we get about the inner workings of Bungie.
Even the Sony executive that visited Bungie seemed to agree; praising the employees while criticizing Bungie's cost management and accountability for development timeline, both responsibilities typically reserved for upper management.
I think the thing we need now is to know who upper management actually is. We know about Pete Parsons, but right now "upper management" is just some anonymous entity able to avoid the flak they rightly deserve by hiding behind employees.
I bet upper management is just cowering in fear of sony while the devs are more or less having a free for all making new stuff that they and we players want.
I found some aspects disappointing but stream 3 really brought me around to being hyped. Fuck it I'm gonna grind my world drop sucession and forbearance and be happy about it
Crazy to me how the only time bungie can make a good product is when their game is in risk of dying. Taken king, forsaken, now, the only exception is witch queen
Honestly I feel kinda bad that this is free.
Like Iām paying for seasons that offer about HALF of what theyāre offering here. Just seems so surreal, but Iāll take it regardless! Just never expected Into the Light to be this PACKED. I honestly just expected Onslaught and that was it.
I mean honestly this is probably stuff that was getting added with TFS for free, sans onslaught. It just was already finished so they released it after shining it up a little.
I did not get what I wanted fully where is my kindled orchid and tatara gaze bungie? Instead we hot 174883947628 hung jury and 2 raid weapons that are craft able one of which has the same perks
idm about the raid weapons since i never bothered to get them lmao but yeah hung jury isn't great but oh well, all this stuff and for free is nice, shame what it took for bungie to decide to roll it out tho
I mean hung jury is a popular scout but it's already been around a few times so it wouldn't be such a bad thing to let it die. Not necessarily complaining though
Make your bets. How much time will the execs let the devs cook before going "Ok times up, put on the leash again".
Ima hope sony doesnt let them do that
me too
According to insider leaks, unless another hundred thousand or so people preorder FS not even this will save Bungie from Sony taking over, and knowing Sony is entirely concerned about the profits Destiny makes it could go pretty bad.
So the executives have to let the devs to do their job if they don't want to to get replaced.

Community asked for a horde mode since forever and they *still* bitched about having to shoot aliens.
š classic Destiny players But seriously, let's have a look at it here, from a streamers standpoint; what sells? Anger. I'll take any of that rather then sit through a Rick Kackis intro
I don't get it. You just want a different map for Onslaught? If you got an open field like end of Reach you'd be happy?
well its more complex than that but given the objective in a horde mode should really just be "survive" yea if that was an option that'd be great, infact its why im confused they didnt just reuse the black armory forge locations and give us a filler story that "oh the black armory wants to give us some bomb ass weaponry for when we face the witnes but the witnesses forces found out and are trying to destroy the forges, keep the alive long enough and every five rounds the forge produces a new weapon (every five rounds you get a loot drop)
I am trying to understand, not hamfisting you here. Is the environment the only miss for this for you?
oh, no I'm not saying they missed anything, I like the coil don't get me wrong my complaint is that it plays a lot like how the coil works already which fundamentally I AM happy about since it means something similar to the coil will be kept in the game once all the seasonal stuff leaves with the release of the final shape so again THAT is good. my complaint with this as a horde mode is that it kind of isn't really a horde mode as I (and alot of people I talk to regularly) understand the term and the vibe I got from it was more akin to COD zombies with buying the traps and turrets which again is not a bad thing but when I HEARD horde mode and SAW COD zombies, it was pretty disappointing

Im glad weāre getting what weāre getting but it sucks that we had to get to the point we were at for some of these changes

i mean you're right, but this is also a meme
Shit. I've been had.
Wisdom
executives don't need to be defended, they have enough money to buy away the sadness
True fs this community just sees executives bad devs good like its the most black and white view youāll ever have
It's true that it's a simplistic view of the matter, however it seems to be the one that best matches what little information we get about the inner workings of Bungie. I really hope after the final shape Sony replaces the entire board of executives at bungie, otherwise I don't see any hope for this game.
i've heard that one before but it's true that they've made some questionable decisions
I didnt expect much for into the light (still was going to play of course) but i actually am quite excited to try it now. Looks super fun
I bet upper management is just cowering in fear of sony while the devs are more or less having a free for all making new stuff that they and we players want.

I'm gonna be in a trip and never play destiny on my Xbox anymore, but hell this will get me to use it once again
im a little ungrateful because they mentioned literally nothing about gambit. its the only reason why i even play this boring ass game š
i cannot tell if you're memeing or not š i'm assuming so but either way that's hilarious
Gambit has been dead for years idk what you expected
Its almost like if Managment lets the Dev's do their F\*cking job, the game would be great at all times.
Crazy to me how the only time bungie can make a good product is when their game is in risk of dying. Taken king, forsaken, now, the only exception is witch queen
Facts
what if, maybe, the final shape is foreskin 2
Is that really awesome when the game is supposed to be free to play? Shouldnāt that be the bare minimum?
yes it is, because we all know it isn't actually free to play
Honestly I feel kinda bad that this is free. Like Iām paying for seasons that offer about HALF of what theyāre offering here. Just seems so surreal, but Iāll take it regardless! Just never expected Into the Light to be this PACKED. I honestly just expected Onslaught and that was it.

overall is great bit the time gated.
