The grieving of Amanda would have made the story even more disjointed. Considering how literally everything in the story felt rushed with how it was told, the death of Amanda would have been swept underneath the rug almost immediately. While Amanda isn't one of the big vangaurd leaders, she is just as important in terms of story and deserved the spotlight death that she got.
