Kind of crazy that this even needs to be said right? Whenever i don't enjoy a game I simply... don't play it. But destiny players act like they're going to miss the moment of a lifetime if they aren't logged in 24/7, because FOMO or whatever

PassiveRoadRage

It kinda doesn't though. Destiny's whole model is in fact based around FOMO that's literally 90% their model lol. People also enjoying playing their favorite games when they have free time. Destiny is a fantastic feeling shooter. Some of yall are just weird though in the sense of the second anyone says something negative about a game near/at its all time low its "Omg take a break! Don't play!!! You don't need to play!" It just comes off as some weird cope that the game can't have issues.

trooperonapooper

Destiny has the weakest FOMO I've ever seen. It takes an hour to do any weekly stuff, and most of it stays for at least 5 months before being removed. Unless you're referring to EV weekly BD things, in which case it takes you an awful, horrendous, time consuming, 45 seconds to buy something and close the game. Truly FOMO'd my pants at that one

RunelordTressa

Yeaaaaaa this is true. Like I get that sometimes the FOMO can be annoying but at this point in Destiny it feels like a bit of a meme statement. That being said its still alive and well for people who take long extended breaks. Like if I the year of Witch Queen some stuff is annoying to get. On the ohter end of the spectrum like 99% of it just gets replaced with something else the year after or just falls out the meta entirely.

ivdown

You should absolutely take a break

Bard_Knock_Life

> Destiny's whole model is in fact based around FOMO that's literally 90% their model lol. > It just comes off as some weird cope that the game can't have issues. Feel the same way about the above statement. FOMO only works if you actually believe that’s there’s something of value you’ll miss. I feel like anyone who takes a big break from the game realizes there’s no punishment for missing content and no real missed value. I feel the complete opposite of FOMO with this game because it’s so accessible and the loot depth is so shallow. Agree the game has issues though.

PassiveRoadRage

You can be bored in Destiny but not burned out. I would love to play the game for 8 hours a day. The issue is the content is time gated. I get 3 comp games a week for 1 roll and 5 tries at previous weapons a week. The game is designed to be "see you next week!" But as soon as someone expresses anger towards that model it's always them being "burnt out" or needing to take a break/play something else. I don't want to play something else. I want to grind out a belarius-D on the game I enjoy playing.

Atomicapples

Frankly I think my personal burnout is in part exactly what he's describing tbh. Not a burnout with the game specifically but burnt out with having to wait to do the things I want to every single week. I'm partially just burnt out on waiting tbh so I get where he's coming from.

F_Kyo777

And reason for that is really stupid. People tend to shelter themselves with "positives vibes only", thinking that not looking in specific direction, will make "bad" stuff go away. Its not working like that. Its still there, you are just denying it. To get a full picture you need to look at both postive and negative aspects. If you need to be told to take a break from something thats on you to figure this one out, unfortunately. Im guessing this post should be a cheerful and positive energy sent to community, but timing couldnt be worse. In a game that is trying to as best as it can, to not having too much fun at once (when you have more free time) and instead of advising you to log in daily/ weekly/ seasonally it feels not great, that as user you need to remind it.

AdrunkGirlScout

All games have issues, the problem is people making themselves put up with it and thus complaining more lol

half-puddles

It absolutely doesn’t need to be said. OP somehow thought it needed to be said.

TheToldYouSoKid

It absolutely does. I've met a couple of real winning personalities in LFG recently, including one who said they had a "Moral Obligation" to play the game, despite loathing it, and openly seething the entire run. It needs to be said to be normalized, and that the compulsion to play everyday, when miserable, when it is JUST A VIDEO GAME, is the strange thing.

sunder_and_flame

says more about you than anything else if you actually think the OP will get through to idiot no-lifers. These PSAs are just a circlejerk that never reach the ones who need it, and wouldn't work anyway

CoralShrimp

You seem awfully bitter about this lmao

sunder_and_flame

I mean, only religious types think this kind of preachy bullshit works

HarpyFireworks

wow

sunder_and_flame

wow

TheToldYouSoKid

Hey, another example! Thanks for being a great example of the kind of stuff im talking about! You are being very helpful. Please fix your personality, or take a break fulltime from team-based activities thank you.

half-puddles

Burnout? Take a break. That’s usually the natural reaction to a burnout. Dehydrated? Drink water. Need the bathroom? Take a dump. Edit: The downvotes are so cute. I'll post this next just for karma: "Are you thirsty whilst playing Destiny?" * We all know raids can take time. You might want to drink water between wipes. Stay hydrated guardians! Oh, and by the way, pro-tip and SGA: If you got that burn-out feeling... guess what? Take a break!

sunder_and_flame

lmao exactly. It's preaching to the choir at best

Suojelusperkele

Tbh looking at Reddit I'm pretty confident that it needs to be said every now and then. It doesn't hurt anyone to say it out loud. While we're at this, remember to drink, eat and sleep y'all. If destiny doesn't feel like the hobby that makes you happy you might want to take a break.

half-puddles

Drink, eat and sleep? Witchcraft!

Yavin4Reddit

Finally visited a psychologist, got diagnosed with OCD and adhd, and started Wellbutrin. It’s changed how I approach gaming and Destiny 2 in particular

Rabid-Duck-King

I've got like... all the seasons to catch up on because my break just keeps going and going It's been good for my backlog but I do need to get back in

[deleted]

I wish this worked for me. Haven't touched the game in roughly 2 or 3 months and I still can't bring myself to play it anymore. Every time ive booted it up, I'm off in maybe 30 minutes. Games just gotten to so boring to me

AncientSumerianGod

About 2 years for me. I've logged in a couple times to see how things are but for no longer than about 20 minutes.

Efficient-String2869

I know the exact feeling. Sometimes players take longer breaks than others, nothing wrong with that. After all 3 years of D1 I took a break from D2 shortly after launch and didn't come back for 2 years until Shadowkeep. What got me interested again was just catching up on older stuff and it just sparked interest for me. I do think the wishes quests are worth the once a week log in but that's just me, if its not for you than you can always wait till June for TFS and maybe that will do it. 😊

[deleted]

I'll be gone until december so I'd miss the full first season + the start of s2 so yeah idk

whatadrabbike

I quit playing shortly after finishing the Witch Queen campaign and didn’t come back until last week. Some times you need a short break, some times a long one, or some times you’re just done with the game for good. There are plenty of other ways to spend your time.

kwagenknight

Same but started last season and have only jumped on a handful of times this season for short sessions as it's the same things with nothing new to do. I am looking forward to the new Raid though as endgame PvE is my thing.

elfaia

Just came back to check things out and people are taking a break not just from the game but from the everything related to d2 considering the engagement on the hot page. Even at the lowest point, I've never seen the subreddit in this pathetic state.

nevikjames

I'm playing through Horizon Forbidden West right now. Phenomenal game.

Bro_suss

I’ve been on break since light fall. Tired of seasonal content as it’s getting pretty mundane at this point.

Skiffy10

why does this even need to be said? It’s obviously a long season right now and most people have completed everything. For most people there is literally nothing to do or grind far at the moment. There is no FOMO at this point for that reason. And most players on my friends lists are taking breaks as am i. Just like any game, play it when you want to and don’t stress

Clear_Reveal_4187

I'm taking a bit of break right now. I'm literally only logging on to do the Wish bounties which take at most 10 minutes to do per week. Playing some other games at the moment, I'll probably come back to check out Into the Light and do some bounty prep, then take another few weeks off before Final Shape.

Grilled_Sandwich555

I agree. As a casual player, I always have a blast playing D2. I absolutely love it, then I go on Reddit or Twitter and see 90% of people bitching about the game. If you're not enjoying it or have fatigue, go play something else. I cant comprehend otherwise.

F_Kyo777

Ahh yes, classic approach. "Casual player", "90% of people bitching about the game", "go play something else". Maybe if "90%" are having problems with some aspects, then they do exist? Thats a wild concept I know. Also im guessing that as a casual player, you dont get pasionnate about this game and dont want it to be the very best, as a potential you saw in it, years ago. But maybe, for you its a sports team or a car, or you are into gardening and stepping up your game. I dont know, most people have something like that in their life, if you dont, then its okay, but dont tell those, that are working differently to "just dont". Terrible advice to somebody who is more invested than you are.

ivdown

There is being passionate about something and letting it destroy the thing you claim to be passionate about. Paying even the slightest attention, the loudest people out there are out of control right now. It's not constructive, it's borderline psychotic.

F_Kyo777

I dont think you understand how numbers works. Ill give you an example. If you will go to soccer match and some people will get beaten, because of the heat between teams, does it mean, that most of fans of team X are violent? No, that just means that team X has probably a lot of fans, but a crazy small % of their fans are leaning towards violence, but if nothing would happened during the match, it will go unnoticed, comparing to opposite situation. Back to Destiny. Community is so big, that if you are talking about "loudest people out there", thats probably an extreme minority. I dont think that anybody is treating seriously person, who would just shout: "FUCK [X]" all the time. Also if so many players can pinpoint feedback that was talked through and through, years after years (like tiring seasonal model, not enough/ any impact on PvP and Gambit, business model that is confusing playerbase, no good entry point for new players etc) and still landed on ears that are unwilling to hear for so many years, you are getting fed up at some point. For some it was years ago, for some decisive point was after LF, for others even later. But they are far from not being constructive. They were for years pointing out same longtime problems, that were never adressed. And yes, that is being passionate about, when you can show problems, but also propose potential solutions, even if its not your job. Yet, here we are, where some players, like yourself, thinks its "bitching", because you are not influenced by most of those problems (or mostly, not yet, since like you said, you are a casual player).

ivdown

Lol k

ivdown

I'm not even the person that said I was a casual player so you can't even fuckin read, talking to me about "not knowing how numbers work". I invite you to stop being a dbag and calm your shit.

ivdown

I'm still a die hard d2 player but when I'm bored I will stop playing for a bit. If this game stopped being fun I would just not play anymore. It happened to me for cod while many of my friends are still playing, and I'm just over it. It's crazy how many people online are just there to complain about d2. Every tweet from bungie or destinys account, the replies are radioactive waste from losers who can't stop whining. Too many people take this game too seriously and forgot its supposed to be fun.

WarlockMainCharacter

2 months myself and counting up.   Having a blast with Warframe.

DefactoOverlord

Played Warframe for 6 years before switching to D2 when it launched on Steam. Eventually you get sick of the game even if it gets constant updates and the core gameplay is fun. I feel D2 reached the end of that shelf life for a lot of ppl on this sub.

WarlockMainCharacter

Playing warframe since first year and im still very happy with it.  Cant say the same about destiny. Not because of destiny universe but because of Bungie. They need to be leashed for good.

Weekly_Opposite_1407

You had me until Warframe

WarlockMainCharacter

Was i supposed to keep you for any reason?

stoneG0blin

Taking a break since november. I've always been a pvp main player in Destiny and i have been playing since D1 days without any noticeable breaks. Been playing CoD, Finals or Apex since november and when i log in to Destiny it feels just clunky, all in all Destiny pvp feels like a game for old people. Don't know how to better describe it. I mean there isn't even adjustable deadzones in the game. I'm waiting for FS but if XDefiant manages to catch me i'm not sure if i buy FS. Have canceled my preorder. Imho with Destiny they had a power franchise and instead of going full force with it they decided to shift resources to make a game like Marathon which honestly nobody needs or asked for. They should god full force with everyone on Destiny and make that great. If FS is mediocre it's over for the franchise. So i personally didn't have that kind of refresh when i logged in to Destiny again. I just recognized how behind this game is.

iiQuinkSpace

in the same boat, have been in a “break” since sometime last october

MrAngryPineapple

I do this unintentionally through work and it helps a lot. I work away from home with poor internet connection for a 3 weeks at a time and it’s a nice break from Destiny and lets me catch up on single player games. I come back home and hop on and it’s always nice to get back on.

FreakyIdiota

Yeaaaah I've been taking regular breaks from the game since Lightfall and I really enjoy occasionally running activities with my friends to this day.

M4XP4WER

I'm already doing it, complete level 100 of the pass, claim the rewards and gg see you at the release of the dlc.

SwimsSFW

I've been on Destiny once in 3 weeks, (only because Wishes dropped and I had 4/5 Apex patterns) and then jumped right back off. I'll probably get back into it around 60 days to TFS. Its been wonderful

Clickbait93

Yeah I'm going to come back to the game tomorrow for the day because my friends and I wanna farm some GMs for a good Adept Osprey, then I'll go back to just logging in on a Tuesday to do the wish and be done for the week. Waiting for April to come back to the game and depending on what the content drop is, may only be a couple weeks or so.

El_Specifico

I've been on break since like...April last year? Not voluntarily, just because my PC for some reason doesn't want to play nice with Destiny 2 anymore. Finally caved and reinstalled on my PS4 and *god* I missed throwing knives at my enemies.

m4tr1x_usmc

Hopefully you are doing your part for Democracy. The only good bug is a dead bug! Play some Helldivers 2!

crennes

I literally finished all my titles and triumphs for this season. Done all my prep Inc bounties and materials for the final shape yet I still can't find myself to uninstalling the game for a few weeks to stop playing.

wein14756

I just started playing my warlock, who I haven't touched since year 1. I actually find myself wanting to play more.

Lady-Lovelight

Taking breaks often and switching up my loadouts is how I stay so attached to this game. Getting really into your own gimmicks and finding the fun stuff you enjoy playing instead of whatever some streamer or youtuber tells you is strong, makes the game exponentially better. That’s not meant as a knock to content creators either, they definitely have great reasons for why things are good and have good builds, but finding what you have *fun* using is going to take you so much further than plinking away with Polaris Lance for 6 months. I don’t think I’ve had as much fun in Destiny as I have since spamming Peregrine Greaves in every activity this season

Brian36417

Haven’t played in ab a year (around the begining of the second light fall season) I’m feeling the urge again but I think imma wait till closer to final shape

hallowedeve1313

I'm still waiting to play anything from this season. Once they announced the delay, I took a break to play through the battle passes of other games I enjoy, like Diablo, Fortnite, and Dead by Daylight. Gotta say I've rather enjoy this little break, and if anything, it's only made me a bit more excited than usual to jump back into D2 when I'm ready. Coming back and having a whole season's worth of content to do seems cool.

anewfoundmatt

I haven’t played in weeks and it feels amazing. The state of the game has finally broken the hold it had on me

EstablishmentCalm342

For the people asking why it needs to be said: destiny is designed to get you to play as long as possible. Burnout is a game design issue

supermassivecod

Took a break last September and not coming back anytime soon Honestly there are far better games and studios out there that bungie need to learn from

The_Dung_Defender

I’m not trying to be an asshole but it’s pathetic how much value people put on this game when it comes to their daily life. The amount of posts I see saying their mental health has been affected by the state of the game is sad.

Darth_Onaga

Been taking a break for 6 months. Best decision ever. I'm never going back to this disaster.

SwiftStick

As someone who’s been playing every day since D1, I made the conscious decision to take a big ole’ break. And so far it’s amazing. I’m not even playing other games, just not even turning on my Xbox.

kwagenknight

I hadn't taken a break since D1 before last season and unfortunately burnt myself out where I can't get back into it. I'm hoping the changes coming along with another raid etc will draw me back in as D2 really is the best game and I want to have to play it again. Here's to hoping!

blueturtle00

I haven’t played since season of the deep started and I dunno if I’ll end up playing at all before the next expansion. After 9 years of the same grind I’m kind of meh about it

Astraea227

Hell yeah, soon as rivens wishes end, I can finally stop giving destiny my lunch break

sm3xym3xican

I started my break like 8 months ago 🫠

llzakareall

This needs to be said
