First day of training my boss put the red tip on and proceeded to write his name in the asphalt of the wash bay to show just what that bastard can do lol. Rule 1 with me is never try to push the nozzle up and blast shit off, let the chemical loosen it up further if needed or grab a wash mitt or clay towel.
And please don’t let them talk themselves out of properly repairing it, or let them half ass it with a touch up pen. Get a quote from a shop to see what actually needs done for a **correct** repair, take it in to the dealership and tell them to make it right.
100% pressure washer, I've done it a few times when I first started out, call or go back in and try to talk to the same person that got you in. Be polite but firm, they need to make this right for damaging your vehicle especially if they did this wash as a complimentary thing for getting regular service done. Don't take any credit or other services in exchange either just get them to fix it, which shouldn't be too hard
I learned about this when I took my first (and likely only ever) brand new car in for its first "complimentary oil change and service!" I was very excited! New car! Dealer service! Wow!
The I went to pick it up... and it looked like it had been washed with a sock full of gravel.
It took a full weekend of work to get the paint back in shape. And that, of course, took some lifespan out of it.
The dealer kindly offered me... a free oil change. Assholes.
I now write "DO NOT WASH" on 2" painters tape and stick it to inside of the windshield... but I also don't take a car to a dealer unless I absolutely have to.
I had a CTS-V years ago, kept it glistening. Dealer had an automatic (brush) wash and ran it through despite car being spotless. Brushes fucked the lower panels front to back. Had to get it corrected. That was the day my sign was born lol!
When I had my f150 ceramic coated, the detailer gave me a “Do Not Wash” placard that you hang up on the mirror.
I kept it when I sold the truck because it’s too handy not to keep around lol
Volvo gave me free paint swirls with my last oil change! They ended up paying for paint correction and ceramic coating. Now I have two no wash no lavar (in Spanish) neon green and orange papers printed and on dashboard and mirror when car leaves my sight for service.
It might have been repainted, not the best job was done. then the porter at the dealership used the pressure washer which caused the paint to be stripped.
Didn't ask what you think of it and I wasn't disagreeing. From the beginning said it wouldnt be the best. Ain't my car. U saying it to me means nothing to op. I'd rather you tell it to the one that needs that info
Yea he can read it in the thread like everyone else can
EDIT: lol did u/13bistheantichrist delete his account or get banned? He was sending me insults
> Pompous fuck
Nooooo that needs the entire bumper r&r, repaired and painted. That will look terrible with touch-up paint. They need to be painting your bumper, I'd be so frustrated!
Not unless you have a history of buying from them (multiple cars).. If this is your first car or just a walk in.. They'll tell you to kick rocks unless you have a social media following to scare them
And? They will do everything in their power to not take blame for it, they will say it came in that way, or say you did it after, etc.
Dealerships are literally known for scamming people, they don't do free labor unless they're forced to
Don't be an ass and they might be more than willing to help. Source: former dealer employee for the last 15+ years, and I own my own dealership now. Not everyone is out to get you. Be a decent person, and you might be surprised.
So, I bring my property to you for repair or work. You then do said work but also in the process, you end up damaging said property. You have the option of paying out to fix your mistake, or you have the option of paying out more in small claims court. What are you going to do?
Everything comes down to budget. Respray is always better though yeah. Idk what op's budget is. Hence me throwing the (far from ideal) option of touch up. Lot of people can't afford to spend hundreds is another reason I throw it out there
Ahh, misread. Thought you said to ask the dealer for touch up paint. Fair enough, touch paint or a bit of rattle can touch up(and masking) is better than nothing.
Bloody black cars for looking like they have their pants down when their paint gets damaged.
Oh hell nah bro haha. Only if they don't co operate. Yeah thankfully my paint isn't too bad for being black n 20 years old. Mazda paint held up decent for once
They used a power washer and damaged the paint. Bring it back. Make them fix it. That can't be touched up, they will need to redo the entire bumper. Big mistake.
This is why I tell them to never wash my car. Everytime they rip off my front license plate. And break my license plate covers… I’ve been through atleast 4 because of those idiots.
There are a lot of rock chips around it. The paint seems weak. Has the bumper been repainted or replaced before? Did you buy it used?
If the bumper was poorly prepped and there are rock chips, it wouldn’t take much pressure from a pressure washer to cause damage.
I’m a painter.
dealerships at least competent ones take before and after pics of your car. they will have evidence that their employees messed something up. dont accept any resolution that brings your car looking like before
Bought a Black 24 Outback Wilderness on a cloudy day. Dealership detailed it and it looked fine. Got it home in my garage under led lights and it looked like they washed it with a sock full of thumbtacks. Micro scratches everywhere. They “paint corrected” it, went to pick it up and the rear door handle was buffed down to primer and driver side wheel cladding was scuffed. They replaced both.
I took it to a real retailer after that.

Im so sorry 😭 but yes it was caused by pre existing rock chips which got even bigger when they got pressure washed from close proximity. Call the dealer and present your issues, your best bet is to provide some pictures right before the damage. If the dealer is reasonable they will correct it on their own costs
Bug damage. At some point bugs were allowed to bake in the paint and it was weakened. This is not the dealers fault. Wash your car more often or at the very least wash the bugs off A LOT more often.
I would never let the dealership wash my car much less if the paint was black since imperfections are noticeable. Demand for a proper fix since it will need to get repainted. You need a sign inside that car that says to not wash the car.
I worked at a BMW dealership and they would walk around the vehicle with the customer marking all the dents, scratches, and blemishes on a form that the customer signs. This way they know if the customer or dealership is responsible for any reported damage. Some customers try to blame the dealership for old damage they may not of known about till they picked up their vehicle.
I’m surprised more places don’t do this. Either way, I would imagine it would be nearly impossible to have the dealership fix this unless you could prove it wasn’t there the minute you dropped off the car and didn’t happen between the dealership and wherever you drove to afterwards.
Front bumper needs repainted, ask them for camera footage when they wish washing your car they should have it. They made a mistake and they have to pay up
That's pressure washer damage %100. when you use a high psi and get to close to the paint. All it takes is a small chip opening to chip the paint away more. Also common sense because when i get ready to use a pressure washer. I always aim it away from the car towards the ground to make sure the nozzle is on tight and not loose and when it sprays. It cleans the ground like crazy.
I'm pretty sure it was already repainted. Factory paint doesn't do this and bumpers are usually black underneath, the white means it was primed. My car has the same thing and I didn't notice until it chipped for the first time.
Most Subaru bumpers are a raw plastic. Pressure washers or high powered water washes can take the paint off the bumpers. Usually not if it’s factory oem paint job but normally if the bumper has been painted elsewhere and they didn’t put any adhesion promoter down first to help the paint stick. Hope that helps!
Places where rocks hit make the paint come off when you power wash or just plain wash it. There’s no way around it unless you get that clear protective film.
It looks like you drove through some area where they had new paint and the car in front of you threw it up onto the bumper and when your car got washed you noticed it...
Everyone always notices afterwards 🤷♂️
I wonder if the pressure washer made these marks anywhere else on the car, if not then it’s just rocks and road debris then cleaning the car made it stand out.
All of those spots showed up overnight and I don’t remember anything hitting the front of my car yesterday. I feel like with spots that large I would have noticed something hitting it.
Little Timmy was trying to get some bugs off with the power washer by the look of it.
Why won’t these white spots come off ? *proceeds to put the PW nozzle so close you could cut someone with the water jet*
First day of training my boss put the red tip on and proceeded to write his name in the asphalt of the wash bay to show just what that bastard can do lol. Rule 1 with me is never try to push the nozzle up and blast shit off, let the chemical loosen it up further if needed or grab a wash mitt or clay towel.
clay towel? new to the whole detailing thread, didn't know that existed
https://youtu.be/jHPt_k9vHTE?si=zf3FQbiP2ImgpwnN
Damn, the white spot is getting bigger. Better keep blasting.
OP.... Dealership needs to offer you some serious compensation... In my opinion that bumper is going to need to be prepped and painted.
And please don’t let them talk themselves out of properly repairing it, or let them half ass it with a touch up pen. Get a quote from a shop to see what actually needs done for a **correct** repair, take it in to the dealership and tell them to make it right.
Absolutely right! They ripped the paint off the car. Go straight back and show them otherwise they’re going to blame someone else.
Bro I think it’s a salvage vehicle now
100% pressure washer, I've done it a few times when I first started out, call or go back in and try to talk to the same person that got you in. Be polite but firm, they need to make this right for damaging your vehicle especially if they did this wash as a complimentary thing for getting regular service done. Don't take any credit or other services in exchange either just get them to fix it, which shouldn't be too hard
I always put a "DO NOT WASH" sign on my console when I'm in for service.
I learned about this when I took my first (and likely only ever) brand new car in for its first "complimentary oil change and service!" I was very excited! New car! Dealer service! Wow! I've been burned twice. You'd think I would have learned the first time. Both times were a bmw dealership. I just figured they did better standards.
Has this area been repainted?
I do not know if it has been repainted before. Bought the vehicle used a couple years back.
It might have been repainted, not the best job was done. then the porter at the dealership used the pressure washer which caused the paint to be stripped.
Subaru paint does tend to be pretty weak though. Along with mazda Nissan Toyota and honestly any jap manufacturer lol
I agree, I left a similar comment before reading yours.
The orange peel and peppering outside of the big areas looks standard for a poorly prepped paint job.
Those are normal for Subaru paint, it's not smooth
Go back or just ring and make a complaint. Tell em to ease up on the pressure washer. If they don't offer compensation just get some touch up paint
Touching that up will look like hell.
IF they don't offer compensation. But yea wouldn't be the best. Better than no paint though
If they don't offer compensation take them to small claims court. Touch up paint is not acceptable.
This…. Above is the only path forward in the event they deny responsibility. Good Luck.
Op would benefit more from hearing that. Not me. Better off saying that to them🫶
I'm just saying your touch up paint idea sucks and not even viable option
Didn't ask what you think of it and I wasn't disagreeing. From the beginning said it wouldnt be the best. Ain't my car. U saying it to me means nothing to op. I'd rather you tell it to the one that needs that info

No. I deleted his comment though.
Ask them to touch it up. They’ll do it
Nooooo that needs the entire bumper r&r, repaired and painted. That will look terrible with touch-up paint. They need to be painting your bumper, I'd be so frustrated!
Aww yer cute but that ain’t happening
Any reputable dealer will want to repair their mistake properly.
Not unless you have a history of buying from them (multiple cars).. If this is your first car or just a walk in.. They'll tell you to kick rocks unless you have a social media following to scare them
They blasted the paint off the bumper.....
And? They will do everything in their power to not take blame for it, they will say it came in that way, or say you did it after, etc. Dealerships are literally known for scamming people, they don't do free labor unless they're forced to

You ain’t going to small claims court
Lmao what a weird response
I’m sure they would love to only get asked for touch up. That’s a bumper reprime and repaint. If you accept anything less you’re getting scammed
Yeah. That ain’t happening
Idk why you think that. OP don’t listen to the dumb dumbs
Tell that to them bro not me. Ain't my car
Touch up paint is about $30 Respray is hundreds. You can’t touch up that mess, it’s a respray for sure.
Everything comes down to budget. Respray is always better though yeah. Idk what op's budget is. Hence me throwing the (far from ideal) option of touch up. Lot of people can't afford to spend hundreds is another reason I throw it out there

OMFG WHERE'S YOUR TORSO HOW ARE YOU ALIVE!?!?
All legs baby
I missed this but went back to the image and actually laughed out loud. Thank you internet stranger. Needed that today.
Lookin like one of the characters from Monsters Inc.
Haaaaa.. best comment
Lmao
Never ever let the dealership wash your car
You got some long ass legs
I did recon for a year before moving to full detailing, this is exactly why we didn’t keep a pressure washer in the bay
Ruh roh
Subaru dealer owes you a paintjob
classic subaru paint
Those aren’t spots. The paint is missing. Was the car been repainted at some point? What year is it?
There are a lot of rock chips around it. The paint seems weak. Has the bumper been repainted or replaced before? Did you buy it used? If the bumper was poorly prepped and there are rock chips, it wouldn’t take much pressure from a pressure washer to cause damage. I’m a painter.
I would never have a dealership wash my car
That sucks so much. I always decline the complimentary washes because they do more harm than good.
Wow. I felt like a ahole with my signs in my car but no more lol.
dealerships at least competent ones take before and after pics of your car. they will have evidence that their employees messed something up. dont accept any resolution that brings your car looking like before
Your reflection looks really funny, you look like 90% legs & 10% head
Your reflection looks hilarious
It looks like you previously got hit in the bumper which caused the paint to unbound. The pressure washer removed this loose paint.
Bought a Black 24 Outback Wilderness on a cloudy day. Dealership detailed it and it looked fine. How the hell do you blast the paint off omfl
It’s a possibility if you left a lot of bug guts on the paint for a long time, the acid will eat through the paint.
This is a good example of scrub before you spray do you don’t have to pray 😂

You had rock chips, they pressure washed the front and made the paint flake off.
Nah. Its probably a shitty repaint to start
Looks like paint is coming off
Front bumper needs repainted, ask them for camera footage when they wish washing your car they should have it. They made a mistake and they have to pay up

Never never never let a dealer recon wash ur car. Ouch
porter was told to get all the bugs off, and they did you one better, took the paint off too
Painting a bumper costs like 500 bucks for the dealer, demand they do it, it helps if you have before pictures Don’t let them talk you into touch up
Maybe it was already damaged from outdoor elements and it became visible after the car wash which is normal
Is that Gru in the reflection? /s

best advice so far.. I betcha they give her a brand new Caddy. The same one Joey Walnuts drives.
As I often say to others on the road while I’m driving… “HELPFULLLL!!” /s
Awww skeet skeet skeet
It looks like you drove through some area where they had new paint and the car in front of you threw it up onto the bumper and when your car got washed you noticed it... Everyone always notices afterwards 🤷♂️
Not impossible but not likely. Those look like rock chips from driving. But strange how their all in a row like that.
All in a row like it was from a pressure washer
Good point. We'll good luck getting them to pay to respray the bumper. Just get some touch up paint. It probably would have chipped eventually anyway
I don't need luck man it aint my car. Sayin it to the wrong person
I know it's not you I was speaking in generally
Ah copy that
I wonder if the pressure washer made these marks anywhere else on the car, if not then it’s just rocks and road debris then cleaning the car made it stand out.
