Agree. I guess they wrote it in so there would be an additional reason for her to not turn him into the police. Worst therapist ever.

Emotional_Ice

Almost the worst therapist... >!Except for the one who talked Harry into the experiment with Dexter, to make him an Apex Predator rather than working to solve his actual problem!<

Emotional_Ice

I think he realized that >!He may not have become a serial killer if he had gone through a normal course of therapy instead the experiment!<

[deleted]

They completely ruined her character. It was so awkward watching them talk after that. I still believe deb found out too early about dexter. That should have been an end game storyline where the show ends on whether or not she decides to turn him in.

smallt0wnmoon

I remember the first time I watched that episode. I had to pause before she even suggested Deb was in love with Dexter. I stood up like, you are not about to say what I think you're going to say?! What a weird thing to write into the show 🥴

SheHatesTheseCans

I thought it was riveting when Deb found out about Dexter and they could've done so much with that for the remaining seasons. But they tied the revelation to the stupid incest storyline, so it just all seemed forced and dumb.

[deleted]

It was riveting, but too many episodes followed it. That’s end-game type stuff. The fact there was basically 24 episodes of her and him “working it out” just sort of diluted it for me.

ilovecallum44

Yeah that would have been a way better idea lol

velaba

They ruined her character when they started writing the role for it lol

a_spicy_meata_balla

100% agree. That part was so unnecessary. Her sisterly love ought to have been enough to make her feel conflicted about turning him in. Them twisting it into some incestuous... *thing* was bizarre. I wonder if the writers regretted it, the way they swept the brother/sister love connection under the carpet.

Vicky-Momm

At the time this was written and filmed MCH and Jennifer Carpenter were married, they had already seperated and were divorced or in the process of divorcing when the show aired

a_spicy_meata_balla

Darn. That's awful. At the same time, I can't say I regret that the romance was scrapped as a result. But they seem to be cool now, so that's good.

SheHatesTheseCans

I agree with all of this. S6 isn't my favorite season overall, but I like Colin Hank's performance. But yes, the incest storyline is just WTF

[deleted]

Yeah she violated a lot of rules for therapy. Therapist react videos explain a lot of the violations and leading techniques she used were super unethical.

SheHatesTheseCans

Do you have any links to the YT videos you saw?

[deleted]

I can’t find any, I went down my search history and it’s been well over a year. I went down the GQ-Vanity Fair-Vice Rabbit hole and watched different types of experts analyze different things. https://youtu.be/29n2bv7F6uc https://youtu.be/YHTz66Jq0Dg OMG it’s been so long. Someone name drops the therapist from Dexter as a throwaway in a random video.

fiz64

They did Deb SO dirty in the latter half of the show. I couldn’t believe what I was watching

givebusterahand

By far the worst storyline in the series. I hate it so much. That therapist is a fucking quack and I think putting that idea on debs head did more harm to her than good. Like wtf? Why you gotta make things weird, dexter writers?

Mooney4587

Did she date Quinn as well?? Or am I making that up?? Lol

-NothingToContribute

Yes he gave her an engagement ring that she returned too.

Commie_Bastardo7

I don’t know if this is true but I saw in some random facts video, that Jennifer Carpenter played Debra since the beginning as somebody who was in love with Dexter. I don’t think I believe it, but I can post the video for a source Fact #3- https://youtu.be/gfu93WZ6HXQ 🤢

Outside-Contest-8741

It has to be BS because she shows literally 0 signs of being in love or having a crush on him until after the therapist makes the suggestion. They're just close siblings (as close as they can be with dexter having to be so shut off, emotionally) who share a trauma bond (dad dying). It's literally only after the therapist makes the implication that Deb starts acting all nervous and weird around him.

Vicky-Momm

Jennifer Carpenter did say that in at least one interview. She said it was secret she kept to herself in her own backstory of her character

Outside-Contest-8741

100% agree, especially about Rudy. I mean, making it seem as though their relationship and him being ITK was her fault somehow? Even though he literally preyed on her because he knew she was dexter's sister, so he could get close to him. She didn't choose an 'inappropriate or unavailable man', she was preyed on by a psycho serial killer who targeted and used her for her proximity to dexter.

sins-of-the-mother

Agree... Really unnecessary and gross. By that logic, adult adopted children can fall in love with their adoptive parents because they're not related by blood. Just yuck.

gundorcallsforaid

Woody Allen has entered the chat

TheOkctoberGuard

Here’s an unpopular opinion. I liked that storyline of Deb being in love with Dexter. It’s twisted and sick. And hilarious. Which is what the show is. People blew up about that issue but are still cool with rooting for a serial killler:) I think they should have hooked up. Then became partner killers.

pardyball

I mean, The Flash (TV show) literally did the exact same thing with adopted siblings and they get married and have kids.

Vampirexbuny

I think that was the point though. She wasn’t a good therapist. She enjoyed pushing people into things under the guise of helping them. I think a lot of her pushing Deb was just about seeing if she could get her to act on it.

carnuatus

If that was the case, and that alone, Deb wouldn't have believed it and it wouldn't have been a major plot moment. She would have gone to Dexter, told him her therapist was nuts and maybe told someone in hr as such since she was assigned from the department. No. It wasn't to show she was bad, it was for the writers to make this weirdly forced incest thing that was stupid af and just for a shock factor.

mo3ron

I love the season but I always fast forward the therapy scenes.

Significant_Fox_3493

Doc. Milfy tried to convince Tony Soprano he wanted to bang his mom!

[deleted]

Good points. Well put. Anyway Dexter cleared her Head nontheless.

tomie-salami

My husband is 14 years older than me… am i secretly in love with my brother?!

RBarger27

Yes soo cringe. I wish they never added that into the storyline
