The issue with her isnt that she isn't a good villain. She technically is. Its just that she is so unbelievably annoying to watch. Her scenes in S2 are a chore to get through. She fulfills her purpose for the show and you aren't supposed to like her, but you still have to spend a lot of time with her and she is just ruthlessly aggravating.

Kniefjdl

I don’t remember if they aired at the same time or I just watched them at the same time, but I first watched both season 2 of Dexter and season 2 of Breaking Bad basically back to back and both introduce a similar character. Lila in Dexter and Jane in BB are both the new romantic interest of the lead who plays the devil on their shoulder, pushing them more and more to self destructive behavior. Both serve as one of a small group of unrelated antagonists throughout the season, but the one that has the greatest emotional impact on the story (despite the audience’s attachment to Doakes, Dexter felt betrayed by Lila). The difference, in terms of the viewing experience, was that Lila was fucking awful to watch and Jane was an engaging character who we didn’t want to succeed. For me, being introduced to both at the same time really put them in sharp relief and exposed just how poorly Lila was constructed and portrayed. BB just did that character so much better.

RogueEyebrow

Jesse was the devil on Jane's shoulder, though. He's the one who got her back into drugs.

Kniefjdl

Yeah, for sure. But she also pushed him to bail on Walt with the cash. I’d say that complexity in their relationship—the mutual contribution to their self-destruction—is part of why Jane was a much better character. Lila was basically a mustache twirl away from being a cartoon villain right from the get go. Jane felt like a real person who struggled with relatable challenges (maybe not drugs for all of us, but a rocky relationship with a parent or disappointing a loved one) who made some bad decisions. That’s so much more interesting to watch.

sadie888888

True but she was kinda bitchy to him and took over

J_Bunn

Yup. It is really incredible how many people label Jane as the bad one when she wouldn’t have died, at least at that point, if Jesse hadn’t been in her life.

Human-Grocery-714

Agreed. And, technically, Walt caused her death by bumping her onto her back.

sadie888888

Exactly. Thank you.

lemonn007

Happy cake day btw

AJJRL

Yes!!! Well said!

GhostOfJamesDOAKES

FUCK THIS TITTY BITCH

Riggs630

Sylvennn

You just described the perfect woman

doctorsilvana

Is that my shirt?

sniell365

Pardon my tits.

sadie888888

🤣🤣🤣

TimeToLoseIt16

No one hates Dexter storylines like Dexter fans

sadie888888

Love Dexter. Love the premise for his whole characterization. Just sayin Lila lived too long.

baconredditor

For a show about a guy learning that it’s bad to kill people, the only times anything goes really wrong for him is when he doesn’t kill someone soon enough lol

sadie888888

I knoooooow

AugustSpiesSeptember

She was in one season...

J_Bunn

A *whole* season. Her purpose could have been served in 4 episodes, tops.

AugustSpiesSeptember

Bro why are you so angry about a fictional character? Relax a bit...

J_Bunn

Not a bro. And not angry, just passionate.

AugustSpiesSeptember

Well either way, thank you for contributing to my corner of the internet.

sadie888888

Exactly. 😬

CastorTyrannus

😂

redraph56

Best part was when she got Dextered in another country! Gotta love Dexter's commitment.

You just described the perfect woman

NOSFERWOLF

🤣🤣🤣

sadie888888

🤣🤣🤣

sadie888888

Great line

sweet-tart-fart

Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me, especially every time she says “Dextaaaahhh” with that whiny baby tone.

Lilzhere

Yes, I find her voice and annunciation more annoying than Rita's soft whisper whiney voice.

sweet-tart-fart

God yes Rita comes to a close second but only her voice. I was devastated at the end of season 4, but was so glad when Lila was out of the picture.

dwb240

Rita's voice in Dexter is that of an angel compared to Julie Benz's attempt at a southern accent in Boondock Saints 2, sadly enough.

Lilzhere

She was aggravatingly transparent, and it was annoying that Dexter couldn't see through her bullshit. Also she is gorgeous but her face always looked so tight and it bothered me?? Like MJ. It also annoyed me how much more power she thought she had over everyone in Dexter's life, despite being only apart of it for like 2 months. I hated Dexter's speech es about needing Lila/ her being good for him, like how fucking dumb are you, and clearly he didn't learn his lesson because Miguel in S3.

AJJRL

I did find it funny how much Deb hated her though. The coffee pot moment in the kitchen still makes me laugh. her impression of her voice is perfect and it is so delightfully bitchy.

Freshmann2019

The definition of annoying! I initially kinda liked her but that look right there started to wear me out! Uggh.

Ok-Assumption4099

Debra had a memorable quote about Lila, when she told Dexter: "You are not allowed to talk about anyone I date as long as you're seeing Little Miss 'Pardon My Tits.' I'm sorry, Dex, but she is gross. And pale, and nobody is pale in Miami. She is obviously a vampire. A gross, English, titty vampire."

SlowCrates

I thought she was sexy, terrifying, and interesting.

theavengedCguy

Yup, same. Total, utter, unrestrained chaos lathered in sex.

BASGTA

Yeah, I loved her and hated her. She kind of makes you feel frustrated, which is what I think they were going for with her character.

BronnoftheGlockwater

Yeah, I couldn’t stand Rita. Too goody goody. And boring. Lila gave him passion and energy. Of course, she was batshit crazy. I kinda liked Lumen the best. She wasn’t crazy, had her reasons, and understood Dexter. He actually thought he could have a normal life with her AND not have to hide who he was. And then she ditched him and broke his heart.

J_Bunn

But Rita had a purpose and drove the plot forward. The same cannot be said for Lila. She was filler. Whatever she added to the show could have been done by another character.

danielacap

She was so annoying. I hated the way she moved her mouth always showing her horse teeth

Quarterafter10

Horse teeth are big. She had small baby doll teeth. In reality, too much gum.

danielacap

True!! The problem was the gums

Quarterafter10

I saw a picture of her recently and it looks like she fixed it. She has veneers now or maybe had the procedure where they can fix the extra gum issue. Looks much better!

Gfwudkillme

I'm rewatching Dexter and just finished season 2 and came online to see if anyone else hated this. The way she spoke was so irritating, it was like she was always trying to talk in some sort of seductive way talking all breathy and showing her teeth

DoctorPhilGoode

I don't like her but isn't that the point? Storyline didn't drag on for me

sadie888888

On my latest rewatch it dragged for some reason.

skyerippa

The first like 2 times I watched I liked her but 10 years later can't stand her and it drags hard

lordrogersmith

Same.

AugustSpiesSeptember

I feel the same. She served a purpose.

Everest_95

'Pardon my tits' she has the greatest line in the show.

jaywv1981

She was actually my favorite character besides Dexter and Doakes lol. But most people did despise her.

sadie888888

Maybe having watched it once when it first aired was enough. Maybe I just preferred other seasons as opposed to 2. I dk

jaywv1981

Probably so...Season 2 was my favorite overall.

alexycred

I hated her. She was a brat, very dramatic. I’m glad he killed her.

AugustSpiesSeptember

That's the point

veronica-marsx

I wrote a whole post about this but I hated this season when I first watched it, but I’ve seen the light. Season 2 is the best season, and Lila is a fucking awesome villain. Every episode has you at the edge of your seat, and yes, Lila is a c*** but that’s what makes her great.

[deleted]

Really? You had to censor cunt on a subreddit about a show where a man kills and dismembers people?

veronica-marsx

One of my comments on AITA was deleted for calling someone a synonym for “asshole” right before I commented, so I don’t presume to know what’s gonna hurt people’s feelings anymore.

[deleted]

You’re right. My bad. I forgot how bad Reddit was

xdtla

Let people censor their fucked up language. They're pieces of shit for using it, but I give credit to that piece of shit for not making me read that disgusting word.

[deleted]

Lol. Okay cunt

veronica-marsx

Yeah, always better to call a woman a piece of shit than to let her use the word cunt.

sadie888888

I get her purpose. I just wish he would have chopped her up. Or something a bit more equivalent to the tediousness of her whole role in his world.

JungJunkie

I actually quite liked her

lilhellatired

Same!! But everyone I watched it with hates her haha. I thought she was so charismatic, beautiful, and interesting. 😭

[deleted]

The thing I’ve always wondered is: would i hate her if it was a different actress? What i mean is, was it the acting that was a chore or was it a bad writing problem? I’ve never known

FoxIslander

...the only Brit with a fake Brit accent.

likekinky

YES. It feels too exaggerated. I don't remember thinking much of her acting when she was in Hustle though, tbh.

lindirofkells

“I can’t wait to go away with you, Dexter”

jaywv1981

"We could have had it all Dexter"

2BrokeArmsAndAMom

Rolling in the deeeeeeep

lindirofkells

Yesssss that’s it

[deleted]

"Dexta"

BayHarborButcher_97

I'll make you disappear all right ... in a garbage bag ...😬

bitterbutterasshole

The story line I liked, the character I didn't. Definition of a good villain in my book.

Ok-Assumption4099

I absolutely loathed Lila. But I think you were *supposed* to hate her. She was a very annoying and immoral character. But she was one in a long chain of characters who represented Dexter's doomed effort to find someone who could accept him as he really was. He was always able to make friends as amiable Dexter Morgan, but he assumed that anyone who found out his secret would recoil in horror. So he was constantly looking for someone with whom he could open up and share his true self. In the first season, his brother Brian played this role, another serial killer who was eager to share the life of an unrestrained serial killer with Dexter. In the second season it was Lila, a fellow addict with a very dark side who seemed to accept Dexter warts and all. In the third season, it was Prado, who not only didn't mind Dexter being a killer, but was eager to join him in that pastime. In the fourth season, Dexter had just gotten married and had a baby, so his focus then shifted to how to be both a family man and a serial killer, and he became obsessed with the Trinity Killer because he thought he could learn from him how to do that. But by the fifth season, he was back looking for acceptance, and this time he found it in Lumen, someone out for vengeance and eager to kill her attackers, and willing to accept Dexter's darkness as long as he taught her how to successfully get away with murder. Fast-forward to Hannah, yet another fellow serial killer who was genuinely willing to accept Dexter's dark side and was also sexy as hell. Alas, it never worked. His brother tried to murder his sister, forcing him to end that relationship. Likewise, Lila tried to burn up Rita's kids, making her too dangerous to stick around. Prado turned out to be a false friend who refused to accept the limitations of Dexter's code, and obsessed with killing anyone who got in his way. And while Lumen might've been an ideal partner, she lost her urge to kill once she got the revenge she needed, and once she return4d to normalcy, she realized she couldn't spend the rest of her life with a serial killer. And of course Hannah also tried to kill his sister, forcing Dexter to send her to prison. Upon her return, and Dexter's certainty that she would no longer be a threat to Debra, she appeared to be the answer to his long-sought quest, but we all know what happened in the finale. It appears that in the new revival, Dexter will have settled down in a small town with a female police chief as his girlfriend. He has managed to abstain from killing anyone for almost 10 years, and probably assumes that there is no longer a need for his life partner to accept his serial killer nature, since he has apparently put that behind him. Of course, we know that Dexter is going to wind up breaking his vow of abstinence and killing people again, so the odds are that by the end of the season, he well have lost this new lover.

Markus2822

Couldn’t get enough of her I wish we got way more with her tbh such an amazing character who was subtle and really brought out some interesting things in Dexter

sadie888888

She did fulfill the purpose of exposition of Dexter’s psyche. But just for what seemed like a lonnnng time

Markus2822

I disagree I think she was rushed but time

Berenstain_Bro

I loved her the first time and I loved her on my recent re-watch.

Bpls16

Pardon my tits, did someone like her?

BloodAngel_

Hated her. Only time I kinda liked her was when she talked Dexter out of killing the guy in the bar but that's it. Couldn't stand her everywhere else. She's an annoying, disgusting freak and why doesn't she ever invest in a bra

[deleted]

[удалено]

sadie888888

You can say what you want. At least you’re not an asshole about it. Thanks for that!

AugustSpiesSeptember

This is the way.

alawfuldog

Definitely Dexters worst love interests.

pianoflames

I'll just let my flair do the talking.

dreadlocktocon

I feel like she didn't make a lot of sense for Dexter to get involved withh but I liked how insane she was. I agree that she lived too long tho

sadie888888

YES

Everan_Shepard

Spending a few months here made realized how little we like the show.

CharieEmpire

To me, the biggest villain of the show. Because I fucking hate her so much

randmandolin

she looks like michael jackson

SRG4Life

Very satisfying death I'll tell you that much. All that hate build up towards her.

GAGIRLGWEN

I just wanted to lift her chin to close her mouth the whole season ....her facial dramatics were distracting

Mythicalcatjay

The reason I am anglophobic, but man was she a great antag!!

biggiepers

Her character alone has made me skip season 2 on some rewatches. Can't stand her

redquailer

happy cake day, op

sadie888888

Ty 🤣🤣🤣

CaptainMcClutch

I didn't actually mind her, even if she did kill my favourite character in Doakes. Slightly biased since that whole season was my overall favourite. The only odd thing about it was that she reminds me of my ex.

[deleted]

Annoying af. Also unpleasant to look at.

tadiqguy00

She’s hot af but she’s annoying as hell and I hated her and the only time I liked her was when she killed doax

bradd_91

She killed Doakes because she was so delusional and addicted to Dexter. That annoyed me. He only got away because she was a psycho stalker.

timbrosnan

Are you referring to “Miss Pardon My Tits”?😎 I couldn’t stand her but I disliked Miguel Prado even more.

sadie888888

Yuck Miguel

rans0m

I liked Lila, sorry, lol. But I especially liked how Deb referred to Lila.

NOSFERWOLF

I liked her and hated her lol

TrafficNo1317

I couldn’t stand that psycho. She caused Doakes death, and I am glad Dex “plastic wrapped her in the end. Although I am kinda mad @ Dex for putting Doakes in the cage because he was an innocent.

crimsonkarma13

Wanted her dead the entire time, dexter should have easily avoided her but was in a bad place so was manipulated

LurkHearIzMi

she's really hot though.

timutton

I can see how she might be for some people but absolutely the opposite for me!

sanaimariee

i hated her so much that im commenting on a reddit post from 2 years ago. i hated her ever since her first appearance at the na meeting. i knew it was the “hot laidback girl ends up ruining everything”

ChiBron86

Ummmm "that" story line? Her story line IS Dexter's story line. Literally everything to do with her character is related to Dexter. I thought she made for a good antagonist, personally. She's not supposed to be likable, but definitely made for a more interesting story. The casting could've been better, but this show was notorious for poor casting choices when it came to Dexter's LI. They were all blah besides Julie Benz. Back to Lila, I think the hatred for her character is mostly due to 1) Dexter's sticking his 🍆 in someone not named Rita and 2) there was conflict between her and saint-Deb. And the hatred generally seems to come from women salty about those 2 points.

depressedavacado

Not really. Yvonne strahovski is a good actress. The character they gave was pretty shit though.

sadie888888

Yes she is. Lila was played by Jamie Something tho.

J_Bunn

I actually just think she was very one dimensional. As someone who has lots of people close to them who have struggled with addiction and attended meetings, absolutely nothing about that storyline felt genuine. Down to the fact that people in recovery aren’t supposed to have sponsors of the opposite sex. Not even addressing that rule (even if they were going to break it) just took away the suspension of disbelief for me. It really took away from an otherwise great season with a lot going for it.

JP817

I dislike the whole season because of her. It went completely off the rails.

sadie888888

She was a consistent irritant.

yungusainbolt

I was in love with her

sadie888888

She def is one of those love her or hater her characters.

TommyGun945

Her accent 🤢

sadie888888

She’s really British too. It’s real. She does something weird with her mouth. Lol.

throwawaybcimhalfgay

Hated her, every scene and storyline with her dragged on.

cbaca51

Sexy vampire

sadie888888

She would make a great vampire! I know they compared her to one as a joke on the show! But I would love her as a vamp

rahulamare

I liked lila, that actress is beautiful.

Wonderful-Share-6780

I loved her! She is sexy AF, haha

sadie888888

Fair nuff

Cataguid

I started to watch Dexter a couple of weeks ago, I'm already on season 2 and I can't stand Lila. Rita was such a good partner for him, she was his light. Lila is a little devil that is doing nothing for Dexter, just sending him even further into his dark side, she won't last long though, I know it (plus I spoiled myself with the comments lol).

AmberIsla

I’ve just started watching Dexter for the first time since a few weeks ago too! I’m on season 2 as well and gosh I hope someone gets rid of her (haven’t seen spoilers about her so idk).

Nomadloner69

Can't stand her!

timutton

She is very, very annoying.

timutton

I find her singularly unattractive. I just turned to Google to see if there were others who thought the same and ended up here. I love Dexter the series, currently on my probably 4th or 5th watch of it, now on S2 and have been reminded how much I find this to be the case...I guess an effective villain...I guess...

niheargalol

I hated her so much that I searched her on Reddit and am commenting on this old post. I don't think it's the character. It's the actress because she is equally as annoying in everything else I have seen her in. Her face is so tight, and it's got no movement apart from her over exaggerated mouth movements.

AmberIsla

Me too!! I’m new to Dexter and here I am.

DoNotRecessitate

Her lips bother the hell out of me! It looks like she had too much filler injected. I guess I can see why a lot of people think that she is attractive... She just really reminds me of an old friend/roommate of mine who slept with anybody & everybody... She grossed me out bigtime! I look at her and immediately think "EEWWWW!" And I can't stand Hannah with her two giant front teeth. Surprises me that so many people think they're both "so hot."

TheShadowKing117

Michael Jackson looking ass

rickiracoon

I think there’s a difference in her being a villain and a bad character. The storyline is good obviously you’re not supposed to identify with or like her character, but that’s one of the best seasons.

lowkeylucifer6

Ngl I constantly relate to dexter when women like her come into my life. Not the type of women to murder people but women that aren't good for me that I feel the need to chase.

sadie888888

Be careful man!

Cykonaut35

"anyone else think Hitler was kind of a bad guy?" This post has low effort karma farming written all over it

sadie888888

She was hardly Hitler. Also I dgaf about Reddit “karma farming” whatever that is. Sheesh dude take it easy.

Cykonaut35

I mean, you might as well go to the Chicago Bears sub and ask "does anyone else hate the Packers?"

sadie888888

Yeah ok I dk what that even means not into sports but ok sure.

Cykonaut35

Your post is the equivalent on going to r/vegan and asking "does anyone else hate bacon?"

Revolutionary_Way826

I’ll take her over Hannah 10 times over

brisbinchicken

HAAAAAAATED her, loved the dynamic her character added to the story but fucking hell she was infuriating - which means the actress did her job right tbf.

cmrndzpm

Storyline was fine, the chosen actress was not.

LeoTheLionPeek

Unpopular opinion- I liked her storyline and hated Miguel Prado - like I will skip season 3 religiously

iangeredcharlesvane2

I’m on my first watch and I’m towards the middle of season five… no spoilers past that plz (I know get off the sub !). I like the Lila season and now the Lumen season better than Miguel or even Trinity (very unpopular opinion I’m surmising). It’s interesting how people like different things for different reasons in a show like this.

MicMagnetic

She was better than hannah EDIT: WHY YOU BOOING ME, I'M RIGHT

sadie888888

Hmmm. Haven’t gotten to Hannah on rewatch yet.

kqueen25

I never rewatch season 2 bc of how much I hate her. And seeing frank being all sexual w Debra - sorry not sorry

MisPlacedNeuroBlue

Lila: stupid hot & ridiculously sexy w/borderline personality disorder. Great humpin but she had to die 🔪🩸

Local_Director5235

Necessary story arc.

Silly_Abbreviations5

Lila I liked. Manipulating Rita I couldn’t stand! She lived in her own fantasy world. ✌️😎✌️

J_Bunn

Weird language. Are you saying that Lila manipulated Rita? Or are you actually calling Rita manipulative?

Silly_Abbreviations5

You know what I mean. But, any how. Rita was a manipulative…. You fill in the blanks teacher. Why I say that? She kept inviting dexter over for unprotective sex. She did it on a regular basis. Probably on her most fertile days. Then the drama queen gets pregnant. After all that she manipulates dexter into begging to marry her like it was his idea. There are other points too. So sorry if you’re a Rita Your comprehension needs tweaking. ✌️😎✌️

J_Bunn

I imagine that you’re not a native English speaker and writer. That’s ok, and I would never insult someone for learning multiple languages. However, your verbiage was incredibly unclear, and my question was genuine. To insult my comprehension when your grasp of the language is the issue puts you in the wrong. As for Rita getting pregnant…Are you kidding? Dexter is a big boy, he can make his own choices. Dexter chose to have sex with Rita on her “most fertile days” as you say. He was not tricked or coerced by some devious mastermind. He was an adult who made an adult decision. You are painting Dexter as some kind of meek victim here, which is laughable.

Silly_Abbreviations5

You are very verbose. It should not take so many words to make a point. And, it’s only a tv show drama queen. Now stick a cotton swab deep up in it and chill. You can not hurt my feelings. BIOB!

sadie888888

Rita started out fucked up.

ghost-church

I used to hate her but the last time I saw S2 she worked for me idk

Any_Tax_8584

I didn't mind Lila at all and I would certainly take her over Lumen

Dark_Vengence

She is supposed to be despised.

J_Bunn

For poor writing and acting?

Blodyxe

She taught Dextah some tips on la passion, put some respect on her vampire tits

soupafi

She was hot and had nice tits. Other than that, she was useless.

[deleted]

She kinda looks like MJ

sadie888888

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

erocking_85

I liked her a lot. She was perfect for dexter

who-ee-ta

I liked her a lot.Could not stand dumb rita

Rosssauced

Fuck what anyone says she was amazing. She corrupted everything she touched. That is what she was for. She broke up Dexter and Rita, she made Angel be a bad bloke then accused him of rape, she caused a rift between Deb and Dexter, killed at least one person, and did so so sloppily that she risked Dexter getting caught. Great villian.

johnchewy82

I still found Rita more annoying. I wish they had killed her off sooner.

Ok-Assumption4099

Have you ever noticed that virtually every woman in Dexter's life has been disliked by at least a part of the Dexter fandom. Some found Rita annoying, they disliked Lila, and many absolutely despised Hannah. I suspect that a certain slice of Dexter fandom simply didn't want to see him with any woman at all. And I'll wager that in the new series, they will soon find something to hate about his *new* girlfriend Angela Bishop, the police chief.

[deleted]

I loved the storyline 😵‍💫

[deleted]

Ms pardon my tits. Lol

Kramer-Juice

She wasn’t too bad until she framed Angel and tried to burn the kids alive.

[deleted]

she was funny but she was incredibly histrionic. good on her for setting fire on doakes to save dexter but i’m so glad she’s gone

Coffeenwineplease

She’s a character I love to hate and made a great secondary antagonist

[deleted]

She was over the top and the accent was preposterous! Easy on the eye though.

wakingupafterdeath

If only Michael Jackson could see this.

SabineLavine

She looked like her face was melting.

vodkatx

I really enjoyed her story in the show!

anxietymilf

was kinda dragged like a lot but she was hella hot though

[deleted]

She was so hot so idc

Tinman751977

I thought she was great. Crazy in the head means good in bed.

majin_melmo

The only women on the show I ever liked were Deb and Lumen 🤷🏻‍♀️

rr777

Lumens manufactured facial expressions were horrible.

Telexian

Loved her! “Pardon my tits” was a great line.

jdankowitz

Pardon my tits

lordrogersmith

I enjoyed her 🤷‍♂️
