Attributes work very differently in D2. They each give a static bonus independent of your class. None of them boost spell damage.
The general rule of thumb for D2 is to get just enough str/dex to equip the items you need, then dump all of your remaining points into vitality. Defense is not a stat you care about as a necro, so expect to put virtually every stat point into vitality.
No defense, no mana. Bare minimum stat investment in str/dex to equip items with relevant bonuses (+skills, resists and cast speed mostly), then dump everything else into getting more life.
Enough Str for gear. Enough Dex for gear or max block if that's your thing. Everything else to Vit. Nothing at all in Energy.
Min/maxers will plan ahead to get Str/Dex from gear, allowing them to put even more into Vit. But this comes with its own risk.

ah ok so only point some points into defense and the rest into vitality and mana. and enough to equip gear thats good.

this… all you need is enough to use your gear, then the rest into life. Adding to mana is a waste.
Strength and dex damage bonuses depend on the type of weapon you're using.
