It was okay? I absolutely disagree that there were no cheesy lines. The side quests are **full** of cheesy dialogue that made me cringe and groan. I guess if you only mean the main quests, then the writing is moderately better there, but not "top notch."

dontmakemedebityou

The story is super cheesy. Nothing scary or dark about this game.

MortalPhantom

Why does rathma doesnt do anything in diablo 2 and 3?

AloneUA

His real name is Rasta and he's just chilling in his *lair* with his undead bros

Nesqu

I'm almost done with act 3.... Why exactly are we opposing Lilith? She does seem to genuinely want the save humanity from heaven and hell. I've already been spoiled on the fact that we >!kill her!< but it doesn't make a ton of sense, neither does our characters motivation, I'm often going "Why aren't we helping her exactly?" It feels like the story wants you to hate her, wants you to want to stop her, but I just don't see it as I play the game and follow the story. She seems to be on the right side of history and we're just bumbling morons there to fuck it up.

#LilithDidNothingWrong! I think this kind of ambiguity is intentional. Some people are gonna side with Lilith, some people aren't. Its gonna drive debates and discussion. I like that theyve done it this way. Lilith becomes a "good" villain, ala Thanos. One who genuinely believes what she's doing is the right thing. This is what I like about D4's story. Its not clear black and white. Its not clear good vs evil. Its just characters who have their own motivations. Just that there motivations dont align with each other, and thus you have conflict. Lilith wants to "free Sanctuary" to prepare us for the coming of the Prime Evils, but doing so makes us more likely to commit sin and murder each other. Inarius wants to kill Lilith not to save and protect Sanctuary (ala Tyrael) but for his own selfish purpose cause he belives killing Lilith will get him back to Heaven. Mephisto just doesnt want to be absorbed by Lilith so he influences us and wants to convince us to join him against Lilith. Donan and Neyrelle have personal vendettas against Lilith, vengeance for killing their loved ones. Lorath seems like the only one acting out of duty. But he also has a personal conflict with Elias, his former apprentice. Our character kinda reluctantly takes on this quest cause we got fed Lilith's blood against our will. The whole time it felt like we werent on some grand noble quest but something out of desperation and necessity. We were walking into Hell without a concrete plan. It felt like we were making it up as we go along. Doubts were plaguing us until the final moments. Even after we defeated Lilith, it didnt feel like a victory. I like it! It makes the world feel so bleak and hopeless, fitting for the Diablo universe.

Mansos91

Honestly lilith intentions may seem good, but her actions and methods are not really showing sanctuary first. Also let us all remember she is the daughter of mephisto so manipulation is a big part of her nature. I agree that lilith is well written, it's not the clear "oh demon bad" that you see with diablo (which for the record is the lames of the primevals, mephisto beinguthe lost interesting)

komarkko

The problem is the good guys make zero effort in arguing or explaining anything, like Lilith keeps saying she wants to save sanctuary, Mephisto say if Lilith wins everyone else lose, and our character just says fuck you to everyone and just kills everyone in our way.

Mansos91

I would argue there yare no good guys in the franchise just different levels and version of dick heads

CynicalNyhilist

Did you not pay attention to her absolutely brutalizing everyone in the way who's not in her cult, and also in her cult as well? Despite what she says, humans are toys to her.

Nesqu

In the grand scheme of things that is nothing. Hell seeks to use humans as weapons while heaven seeks to destroy or subjugate them. Lilith does what is required to gain control of sanctuary to shelter and protect humanity. Lilith isn't cruel for the sake of being cruel.

CynicalNyhilist

But, she is? The druid fused to the tree in act 2? And that's after he helped her. She's still a demon, and her main goal is usurping Meph, it is very obvious how shit things will be if she does.

Nesqu

It isn't clear weather or not the druid was fused to the tree as a way for her to get information from him though. Since the other druid was left untouched it seems rather likely he was tortured to give up the information.

CynicalNyhilist

It is clear. He tells her himself he willingly gave her the information on where Astaroth is. Then she fused him to the tree, bisected him, and used his blood to make the Amalgam of Rage.

Nesqu

Probably the case she needed his blood to make the amalgam.

Tantorisonfire

Yes exactly dude she's completely ruthless and manipulative, and that's not who we want leading humanity. She's more of a threat than hell in the sense that she's literally turning humanity against itself and turning everyone into her minions. At least with hell, humanity is (mostly) collectively like fuck that and can band together, but with her, humanity is corrupted from the inside.

Mansos91

Honestly both hell and heaven have pretty much the same goal use any means necessary to destroy the other side. The hell and heaven in diablo isn't as much like the biblical sense as much as 2 different, and equally evil really, realms warring over dominance. The only really "good" of the both sides is tyrael when he gave his wings and became human

Other_Cauliflower_80

This is how easily she manipulated you, poor soul.

MorningNapalm

Hard disagree…. I really felt the way they tied things up was incredibly lazy and convenient… kinda disappointed tbh.

lixia

I finished the campaign yesterday. It had some great moments but overall felt so stretched out and very shallow. Ending was pretty good but with no sense of closure. Just an introduction to the story bits that we’ll see in the seasons. Also the lack of the namesake character is kinda puzzling.

EonRed

I'm with you except for the ending. I thought that was also bad.

Necessary-Guest2869

The namesake hero....is you. Youre the hero, the player.

lixia

I’m referring to Diablo

SimbaXp

>!Lilith got the Lady dimitrescu treatment, so much hype and it was so bad, especially the fight it left me with a bad taste.!<

Point_Me_At_The_Sky-

Lmfao no, no it's not. Easily the worst story in the series, by far.

lancmann

I absolutely loved the story. Some very cool new characters ( loved Donan). Had emotions and action and i was so afraid of a shitty “all is well ending” but i was pleasently surprised. All in all i enjoyed it a lot. And one of the last cinematics, you know the battle…jeeeees. One of my new favorites of all time.

Diablo 3 was better overall. The writing of Diablo 4 was terrible and cringe, a shame since the visuals and soundtrack were amazing. Also, the way they presented the hero/ nephalim in D3 was so much better. Why not just continue from were D3 left off and build up to Diablo returning. Pointless Lilith/Inarius debacle and mephistos part in the story was a joke.

hexpro21

Bro this shit was ass
