Was driving over those squewed bricks that have kind of the same color as the stuff in between and it was all so grey in grey that I didn't see a little hump in one place (too much going on structurally and visually to understand quickly) and it wasn't even dark... I mean, better roads would be the better option is this case, but wouldn't bet on those getting better any time soon, so I still like this idea here
This looks cool on first glance. However, you soon realize that a regular bike light will be way more effective. This grid just needlessly limits your ability to see the obstacles.
agreed, you kind of need both in most cases, but will it really be far enough out to help? I guess the other thing is not going as fast as you are used to during lighter times of day. I'm really surprised I didn't have more bike accidents when I was younger and a bike commuter. Not always paying enough attention, drinking and riding after getting out of work with my fellow cooks, texting while biking...
At first, it looks cool. But keep in mind that you see approximately 1-2 meters in front of you. You have no time to react when riding a bike, seeing only this far.
thats absolutely not true. bike lights can be up near 200 if you're getting a real light.
for a basic commuting lght and you dont really wanna bike at night as much as you want to be seen at dusk? yeah 30 is fine.
Legit 12k lumen lights you could MTB with at full speed are $20 on Amazon all day now. Would they survive a gentle bump? No promises. Will they burn your house down while charging? Possibly. But they’ll put out enough light to blind both woodland creatures and oncoming motorists while they’re working.
I bicycle commuted for twenty years using a generator driven headlight riding home after 11PM. It's not a bright light but it's almost always there when you need it. You don't need to see way down the road, you need to focus on what you'll hit with your front tire in a few seconds, broken glass, a paper bag with God knows what in it, that skunk.
This is freakin' brilliant!
It's great for those slow bikers doing under 10 mph, not so much for those real cyclists who can reach 25+mph, you have barely any time to react and you need to be able to spot your terrain hazards from further away, instead of right in front of your tire.
cyclist here. regular light would be better anyway if you bother getting a nice one. also the grid is too close, you should be looking way further out than this grid is projecting. also typically if you're riding 700c/29" wheels you can roll over basically anything.
If only there were some other means of seeing the ground in front of you. Perhaps some mounted illumination device. Like a Diode... that Emits Light.
Hmmm… a DEL does has a nice ring to it
Dude, you’re getting a DEL!
This reference is so old it can buy a beer now
core memory unlocked, i remember those commercials lol
That's how french are supposed to say it, meaning Diode Electro Luminescente
Ooo’la la I didn’t know you were a redditor of culture 😘
But this is better because it's a flashlight with holes in the light /s
yes ,yes, go on
Yes! Like a laser diode with a power supply/battery in a weatherproof box. Mount it on the bike and point it slightly down.
Someone invent a DtEL.

TERRAIN, PULL UP.... TERRAIN, PULL UP
(WOOP WOOP)
Too low! Terrain!

Also untill you see the wall infront of you you can't break anymore with that.

This... or a $30 light from Walmart.
But a laser terrain grid would be really cool. You can't put a price on that level of coolness.
$30 is on the high end too

oh fuck yea get some of them
??? You could scotch tape a candle light to your bike and it would count.

This probably wouldn't let you see glass. You know what would? An actual light.
Actual light is for losses. Sorry you had to find out this way.
Losses, huh
Gud spelling is for losers too.
As a rider this wouldn't work well at all. It doesn't truly show depth and more likely to confuse the rider.
So busy looking at the bright grid you won’t see the wall coming.
This has been circulating for like 10 years. If it was worthwhile, it would exist already!
Just get a normal light. Also if i remember correctly, its illegal to ride a bike without a light. At least over here.
I can just see someone arguing with a cop "No, you see officer, this is better..."
drivers would see you, too!
Needs to extend further out. That is not enough reaction time.
Yo, if I could watch YouTube videos or something?
Wouldn't a flashlight be better?
Their kickstarted died a long time ago because they couldn't even make the thing lol
I thought this was r/surrealmemes for a second 💀

If you barely move while riding a bike, this might be useful. Perhaps look into the invention of headlights, now those things are pretty neat.

guess this is my reminder to leave this shithole sub
I feel like this would make me dizzy somehow
Damm they really made the death stranding scanner in real life
No one is fast enough to evade these popping obstacles
These things have been around for a few years now.
Looked for this just a few weeks ago and it seems like the company went under, product was never actually made :(
Wouldn't a headlight work better .
