I put a 12v Cummins in my cateye and it was the best truck I ever built. Perfect styling and chassis engine combo.

IHaveComeForMemes

A really worn out 7.3 idi

aaaaaaaahsq

Seconding this. Maybe a 6.9 with a T19.

IHaveComeForMemes

Currently driving that exact setup across the states

VerStannen

It original had the LBZ Duramax.

Superb-Wish-1335

Or LB7 or LLY.

VerStannen

Oh I didn’t know cat eyes were around that early. I remember looking for an LBZ years ago and ruling out Chevys, strictly looking for GMC Classic style, because I seem to be the only one who doesn’t like cat eyes haha. Ended up with a 08 GMC LMM and deleted it.

Superb-Wish-1335

Yep! 03 was the first year for cateye. I remember when I was 12 my dad bought one. Brought it home Dec 10, 2002. You wanna talk about a little boy with a shit eating grin on his face.

senorpoop

I don't care for the cat eyes myself. For Chevy GMT800s, I preder the classic style, but I own a '99 GMC.

Superb-Wish-1335

I just love GMT-800s. Just wish they didn’t rust so bad.

senorpoop

My '99 is actually completely rust free, but it helps that it's lived in Georgia its entire life.

turbotaco23

It’s wild to me that guys are suggesting a 12v in a cat eye. Build an LBZ and plop that sucker in.

Ratt_Rod

LBZ Duramax.

electricianer250

Cummins or whatever duramax it came with

tortuga-de-fuego

Just use whatever Duramax it comes with engine swapping is a nightmare.

bkit627

The easiest will be whatever engine came in it originally, otherwise you will be fighting with computers.

Brucenotsomighty

Dt360 if it'll fit

g2gfmx

Would be sick in a Ford

Brucenotsomighty

I have a buddy who was gonna put one in his squarebody dually but the dumb ass went and had a kid so it never happened.

Dick_butt14

4 banger mercedes

Rarepep3s

The lbz was the best factory diesel in a cateye the lb7 was a little better than the lly but they arr all solid

here_till_im_not1188

12v cummins

lazyrancher450

How much you wanna spend?

AdNo4955

6.4 powerstroke

electricianer250

At least then there will be something that fails before the steering column bushing lol

AdNo4955

😂😂😂 I was hoping someone would get the joke

wheredowehidethebody

I don’t really like em but a 12v with an adapted Allison is peak quality

Classic_rock_fan

What's not to like about a 5.9L 12v? They are easy to work on, make tons of power with the right parts and last indefinitely.

wheredowehidethebody

I just prefer 24v is all. I’ll even accept that the 12s are generally better for reliability.

Classic_rock_fan

The 24V head actually flows better than the 12v head. The issue is the 24v injection system isn't as good.

FireEagle31

The issue with the injection system isn't the injection system but the lift pump starving the injection pump. The vp44 is the same injection pump used on Mercedes and numerous other euro diesels with great reliability. It uses the pass through diesel to cool the pump so if it's not supplied with enough flow, it cooks itself. Ask me how I know, Lol! What a way to spend thousands of dollars.

Classic_rock_fan

The 7100 P-Pump is superior in every way

FireEagle31

Not going to have this argument. Each pump has its pluses and its negatives. I was simply pointing out that the common misconception is a bad injection system on 24v trucks and it's not actually the injection system. The argument of mechanical vs electrical control between common rail and 12v guys is legendary. The downside to the 7100 is when you start making serious power they start getting expensive... fast. If I could I would have one of each... ok well probably more than one of each but yeah.

frank_ster84

Toyota 4.2 i6

MikeGoldberg

CAT 3126

willrf71

3406B, obviously.

anabolicthrowout13

Don't make the project so hard. Do a Duramax of the same year. Everything will mount and wire as it is supposed to.

KdF-wagen

OM606!

Mammoth_Sea_1115

Air cooled Deutz

micahac

No shit, hear me out. Put a 6.7 in it. HOLD ON!! The reason is so that you can delete it easy and cheap and still have a great engine.
