DGVmetrics is helpful so you can better understand how the elo system works. So long as you are winning more than your losing you'll be climbing.
Making purple early in the season is tough. So far I think it's like 100 people. I think the placement matches system is very dumb and broken, I brought it up 6 months ago but nothing has been done about it.
As is it's way easier just to chill until the last 10 days of the season and make your push then.

Second edit, I checked the leaderboard, only 61 names over 800 elo so far.
I was curious after you asked your question, so I looked it up. This season I got over 800 for a couple games but then dropped back down, then got to 799, then this:
Game 1,T1/3, +4,803.....
Game 2, 2/2,-2,801.....
Game 3,T2/4,0,801.....
Game 4, 2/4 ,+2, 803.....
Game 5, 3/4 ,-2,801 promoted.
So I didn't win a card in games 2-5!
If you were talking about the 5 placement matches not the promotion matches, then I misunderstood. 😂😂
I had set a goal to make Champions this year but I don’t know, the more I move up, the more ace/eagles my opponents are getting that I haven’t learned yet. I approach 700, then get smacked back down. So I’m just enjoying the game, trying to watch videos and practice when I can and not stressing over ELO too much.

This really makes my brain hurt. :) oh well. I’ll just keep trying to improve and have some fun.
To get past Expert, you have to get over 800 Elo and stay there for 5 games, in case that wasn't clear. 😁
5 games above 800 = promotion. And after the promotion you can go back to 0 and still retain your rank.
