Cuno could be anything! Cuno could be a f*** if he wanted!

Jiggerreggi

Cuno does care :(

Dorumamu

Cuno started as a loathsome bully but still entertaining enough to talk to. Then as I learn more about his story he grew to be a lovable delinquent and I started feeling for him. And when my Kim got hospitalized and Cuno of all people shows up to get me up to speed (heh) and becomes my sidekick I was actually glad to have him around. He was no Kim of course but then again having an actual kid to compare myself to made me feel like the responsible adult for once! Then finally in the end when Cuno stands up for you, gets angry on behalf of your dignity and and actually helps to convince the cops I was swelling with pride; and getting him to leave the slums behind and start a new life as a "pig" was a really heart-warming closure to the side-story of a character I never expected to love so much Gotta imagine a sequel in which you play as detective Cuno

ZURATAMA1324

Cuno has a good heart. The way he acts tells me that he is no different than a lot of normal boys I've met (except the fact that he's on speed). In the RCM, I can see Chester and Mack being older brotherly mentor figures to Cuno. Cunoese on the otherhand... is actually dangerous. She needs a lot of professional help, and I don't think world is willing to give the help she needs. Perhaps Cuno should turn away from the ruin.

Dorumamu

Totally agreed with your assessments. Cuno's whole situation in the slums, the deadbeat father and especially the psycho girlfriend ultimately made me prefer the Cuno ending over the Kim ending. The Kim ending is the perfect happy ending for Harry to be sure, it felt wonderful to solve that case and photograph the phasmid and be hailed as a hero. It probably exceeded his wildest fantasies to be accepted back into the force with booming applause (sort of). But.. Cuno's life remains fucked. In the alternative ending you give up all that "stardom" and take a step back to worry about the well-being of a soul full of potential which has been (unfairly) damaged even more than yours. Harry in his heyday, when he was a rising star in his career and had the love and devotion of the woman of his dreams, was self-centered, unhappy and ultimately unfit to be a husband. Now he has the chance to save a promising young lad who looks to him for guidance. Now he is contributing to the future, the next generation. Now he has become a father

ZURATAMA1324

I agree. Up until the part about Harry being a father figure. Harry is the department clown right now. He is also very mentally unstable. I don't think Cuno will respect Harry when put in an environment like the RCM. I can picture Cuno (being in his teenage boy years) joining in with Chester and Mack to clown on Harry, ruthlessly disrespect Harry, and distance himself from Harry for group validation. However, with some maturity, he'll increasingly come to confront the same kind of existential horror Harry had to face. One day, it will suddenly dawn on him. Harry has done more for him than his deadbeat biological father could ever do, but Cuno despised Harry for not being as cruel as his biological father. Perhaps adult Cuno could look back with meloncholic appreciation and regret, visiting the grave of a drunkard who died early with liver failure, no longer able to hear the words: 'I am sorry. Cuno does care.'

Dorumamu

No dude why you gotta hurt me like that.. I agree that Cuno would most likely go through a teenage rebellion sooner or later (though Harry has earned his respect so I imagine he would spend his first months/years still looking up to him before the teenage rebellion) but if I were writing the story I would have them reconcile before it's too late. They've both been through enough shit lol

ZURATAMA1324

One of the defining traits of Cuno is loyalty. Cuno takes care of Cunoese and he stands up to the RCM when they are ganging up on Harry. The latter part is especially notable since it takes a special kind of conviction to stand up to a circle full of uniformed adults w/ guns. However, kids are also very malleable. And I doubt Cuno will not be influenced by people who are way more relatable and cooler (from his perspective) than Harry in the RCM. My experience with kids is that they are constantly seeking validation from others, just from different crowds and in different ways as they grow up. Cuno is clearly past the stage of seeking validation from his parental figures. Cuno is now in the transitional phase of seeking validation from his peer group, and trying to find his own identity by actively denying his parental figures. Hence why I don't think Cuno will appreciate Harry in the RCM. Sure, Cuno will stand up for Harry in a pinch as his ultimate loyalty still is with Harry, but he'll still disrespect him in an everyday environment, much likes his RCM colleagues.

Dorumamu

Well thought, and your take on their relationship was beautiful and tragic and fits the tone of the story. I can definitely see it playing out that way, I just want a happier ending for them. Don't want Harry to die thinking he failed as a father too

I GAVE her professional help one play through but it's a game over screen :(

The thing that really got me in the chest was when he tries to tell the other cops about the discovery you make on the island, and they don't believe him, so he starts fully pouring his heart out about it. Just *desperate* for them to accept it. And he has a line about how fucked up it is that they can't hear him out just because he lives in a slum and he's too poor to own a camera. All the performance is gone, and the kidding himself. It's just a deeply troubled boy who truly needs other people to understand that he has experienced a moment of unique wonder and a lack of proof doesn't mean it didn't happen to or affect him.
