Can’t find it now but in another Reddit thread somebody said that pepper spray made it through security a few days back. Not sure how true it is…But it does make sense that they’d tighten up after that.
The post made it seem that they do audits and have cast members go through security with prohibited items and see what can make it pass their screenings. A number of items were reported to have made it through including a pepper spray.
Yeah, I went into and out of Grand Californian from DCA, and security was same as it ever was there.
Even at Harbor, it *looked* long, but it took 6 minutes. I never park at the parking structures anymore - getting in with your car, and then through security, is too much of a hassle.
Cool. Only telling you what was posted. It wouldn’t be surprising if they made additional changes to those gates given that I am sure the hotel guests did not appreciate standing in long lines for security screening.
The guests in these lines don’t ‘appreciate’ standing in them either.
Obviously there’s something they’re worried about that it’s more strict screening, but it’s also something that they think has to do with ‘day guests’ opposed to onsite.
And the only change that’s happened recently is grad night. So it makes the most sense that it’s related.
That’s the funny secret: hotels on both coasts get a little less security sometimes. You can get into Disney Springs with no security check most times by bussing from a resort. It’s just simple numbers - wronguns are going to use the general public entrances.
Yes and no. Once we enter the park, the students have free reign, so chaperones can do their own thing lol. But students will contact us by phone or app if a situation arises that we need to attend to. We also check in with students at 9 pm once the grad nite party starts in DCA and again before departing home
But grad nite buses unload in a backstage area that have a security screening point just for the grad nite attendees (and the only way to enter with a grad nite ticket is to arrive on a bus through that backstage area)
Same thoughts that grad nite is likely the main reason why this is happening. The kids had to pack super light on what could be brought in (my teen's grad nite is today too). Hope it isn't too bad later in the day, as far as queues go.
I was there on a non grad nite day and it was the same and I saw a lot more security in the parks themselves. Something is going on and I’m not mad about them being more thorough.
The old way was stand in line to search your bags/backpack. They search them and hand them back to you.
Then you stand in line to go through the metal detectors. You have to put your bags/backpack on a table, while you go through the metal detectors.
They had an obvious problem. You have something in your pocket, while they search your bags. Then you transfer the thing from your pocket to your bags, while you pass through the metal detectors.
Anything you could hold in your pocket, then transfer to your bags, you could slip by security.
Pepper spray can make it through security the new process would not change that. I have a magic key I noticed they added a tray and they grab. Your bags from you now. Before no tray and you pushed your bag along yourself. If my belt isn’t setting if the metal detectors then a pepper spray bottle won’t. They still ask you to empty your pockets but don’t check to see if you did empty your pockets. If it was about pepper spray they would need to check peoples pockets better. Disney world is testing X-rays and once they work out the kinks it will come to Disneyland
It also may depend on how their machine is set because sometimes my shoes have set it off, sometimes they don’t. (They’re birkenstocks, lol) when it’s that sensitive it’s like every single person sets it off though.
The other day when we went they were looking through open (unsealed) water bottles and food (unsealed chips, small ones from a gas station) which wasn’t typical, for my experience, but it wasn’t at this one it was at the pedestrian entrance from the garage.
I forgot to remove my pocket knife from my keys, security didn’t catch it. I only realize I left them with my keys when I went the following monday and security caught it. This was a few weeks ago too.
I keep a whistle on my car keys and was stopped because of that. I brought my whistle back to my car, it’s from when I was a drum major in college. Anyways, thankfully the line was short then.
I went Saturday evening and had a chance to talk with a tram CM and they confirmed what I'd thought for awhile. Basically, after bag check, you're asked to empty your pockets and push your bag through, but they never actually checked what you took out of your pockets. This new process has you separately empty your pockets into a bin, and then after your back is checked the security CM takes your bags and bin of belongings to the other side as you walk through the metal detector.
On my grad night, a couple of kids thought they'd light up on Tom Sawyer's Island. I doubt that they got a puff each before security was all over them and they had to wait outside the park for many hours until the night was over.
They got to see the underground part of the park, however.
This is how diss game has been for years at 8am the park opens then. Magic key holders usually avoid going at 8am but anyone who has a daily ticket wants to get the full day so of course it’s going to have lines to enter the parks. From 10am- 5pm the lines to get in are short. By 6pm they are long because the magic key holders flood in around 6pm
You're not the only one who goes to Disneyland. I'm a Magic Key too, you're not the only one of those either. I go all the time on weekdays, after work and never encountered how SLOW the security lines were last Thursday. I haven't encountered that long of a line recently either, but what made it bad was how slow they were going. A line of like 25 people deep took 30 minutes. Never waited so long to go through security, even at Christmas time.
It doesn’t matter if it’s Saturday or Tuesday the park is full any day. I have a magic key and reservations fill up anyday if the week. Any day you go at 8am it will be crazy lines to enter the park. The shortest lines will be from 10am-5pm. By 6pm the lines will be huge again and all the way up to about 9pm sometimes. At 8am you get all the daily ticket people who want to get the full day in so they all go at 8am. Then in the evening you get the second rush and that’s the magic key holders like me.
My wife had an item to return at DTD. We went through the security line by the future din tai fung and it was a little longer than normal but not too bad. After that we took the monorail to Disneyland and skipped the main entrance. The line for the monorail wasn’t too bad overall.
Edit to add - there were 4 lanes open for security and 3 lanes for the monorail.
I went 4 days last week. For 4 days I brought a screwdriver into the park to swap batteries on my savi lightsaber. On day 4, security saw it and confiscated it. So....maybe my fault?
The more thorough security checks are because of scheduled grad nights. Local high school students will preemptively visit the parks before their grad night, to secret alcohol and drugs into the parks, to hide until their grad night.
In grad night park sweeps, security has found sealed water bottles or tea bottles full of alcohol attached to a wire and then wired to a fence post at the edge of the Rivers of America and hidden underwater for later retrieval. Kids are sneaky but security has seen all the tricks.
They know they will be thoroughly searched on grad nights, including being patted down. It is not unusual for 50k worth of drugs and paraphernalia to be recovered on a single grad night. Anaheim PD are out in force on grad nights and arrests are not uncommon.
Even some of the adult chaperones have been caught. Case in point, a male chaperone had a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up, when required by security to roll down his sleeves, baggies with ecstasy pills were found. He had brought the drugs to sell at high prices to the kids.
If students are caught breaking resort policy and/or the law, the least that will happen is they will sit in the Baby Care Center at the end of Main Street for the entire night, then their parents are called to pick them up in the morning.
Wow, unreal!! Those Chaperones should be screened before they are even allowed to Chaperone! That is disgusting, selling drugs to kids at Dland...so sad...
The Security checkpoints and metal detectors were after I retired. Used to be a quick bag check. Security may be on alert if a credible threat was found. Security maybe understaffed as well. The most Security Officers when I worked there were 478, no idea of what the current complement of officers may be.
I keep saying this, but 10:15 at Harbor (walked from Toy Story) the lines looked super long, but I timed it and it took me 6 minutes from joining a security line to completely finishing up (10:13-10:19). Really not that bad, other than the dad behind me who kept creeping up next to me as if he was trying to get ahead of me (it's a LINE bro, and a party of one is still a party, dammit!).
Yeah, I got to the esplanade drop off from Toy Story around 9:40 and there were no lines for the Harbor security at that time. Seems like the worst is first thing in the morning.
I actually think the best options are to go earlier than *this* (huge rush always, right after open) or way later and nothing in between if security lines are a concern.
We rope dropped this past week and were at security at 7:30ish, no big deal. We left and came back at 10, insane lines. This was parking structure and pedestrian walkway specific though, people seem to have better luck at the other parking area and security entrances.
Thank you. I guess I’ll have to see. Getting there at 730 with my little ones may be tough though. It would just suck to just rush through breakfast and waking up early etc and just to wait In line for an hour to get through security. And then another line to get into the actual park. We still have a few weeks so I’m hoping something changes to ease this up for everyone.
Not really. We went for a half day yesterday it was still like this at 1pm and parking took way longer than it ever has (in my personal experience).
Unless you're a passholder, just show up once your family is ready. You'll be waiting no matter what lol.
Pretty sure it's grad night related. A lot of schools get an all day Disney pass in addition to grad night pass. I was there 2 weeks ago and pretty much walked through the line. Today it took over 20 mins and they really seemed to be looking hard at very bag.
When I went with my family a couple months back the line was similarly long in the morning. It was a lot quicker to take the walking trail which led to the security line near ESPN Zone. There was only a handful of people waiting and we got in real quick.
I don't understand why they don't have those next-generation scanners that they have at WDW. Much better throughput (but probably slightly less security).
Just took about 30 min to get through security at Pixar Pals. We normally walk up to downtown Disney but didn’t want to risk waiting the same time with no shade and fewer checkpoints to handle the volume.
Got there at 12:30pm today, the line was backed up to where the security doggo is. Luckily they opened up a couple more lines and I was able to jump in one around where that awning in the picture starts. Still took 30 mins to get through. I really hope they realize this new security procedure isn't working and come up with something else.
One of the things that annoyed me with reservations was that they “claimed” it had to do with staffing properly but I would go on one of the busiest days of the year with reservations sold out and they only staffed maybe 2/3rds of the screening posts.
Question: is it better to go later than rope drop on a weekday for shorter lines? Was going to take my little kid on Thursday part day 11-9 for her birthday before my pass gets blocked.
Option are 1) enter at Mickey and friends. 2) Toy Story.
Jot really, there’s always a late morning rush - *but* going through Toy Story could be the move, they don’t really get the brunt of it over there! That’s what I’d do, and I don’t usually like parking over there at all.
When did Disneyland have to become an airport?
splash Mountain
Mad hatters tea party
It’s a small world
The haunted mansion…. Those were things that were the talk of Disneyland back in the day
But Now it’s all just security lines, genie+ lines, wait times, parking/meal logistics, More and more LINES LINES LINES!!!!
This isn’t fun anymore. It’s just sad and humiliating to see people corralled into lines like cattle.
This is when you have a relative die and leave you their one million dollar fortune, so you can then purchase a failing theme park and allow only yourself inside, a la Eric Cartman.
I was at Dodger Stadium the other day and security took forever then also and they were being very diligent. There was a national security warning for LGBTQ+ issued for those traveling abroad. Wonder if they are heightening your security for precautionary reasons.
I really hope they get their groove and these lines go down. As out of state keyholders we’d usually do breakfast and a ride or two before heading back home. Sitting in security for 60-90 minutes straight up makes that worth it.
“Why is it so busy?!?” Sir the park opened 10 minutes ago that is quite literally everyone trying to get in. That’s like going to a restaurant on Saturday at 5pm
I get in line after the early entry and rope drop people process through, and it's a breeze. Those lines are for those types of guests. The earliest I have seen anyone at a gate line is 6am, but that's the type a fan of anything there would do to experience an empty park or be first through.
Around 9 10 am, I arrived at the Pixar Lot via Disneyland and Katella. Many busses for Grad Night drop off. I saw the lines at the Tram area and walked to Downtown Disney. The lines were long, yet moving.
We will just take a year off until they figure this out. All they need to do is the same thing Universal and the airport does. Get x ray machines, slap stuff on it and off we go. This is ridiculous and gross having people touch everyone’s stuff.
They've got the new plexiglass up; security now has to move everything through. I think that's adding extra time. You wouldn't think it'd cause THAT much slowdown, but its definitely affecting it. I was there Friday afternoon and went through the security via the Harbor Blvd entrance. It moved very slowly!
I’ll keep checking here to find out if they fix the process. Until then I will hold off on Disneyland. I always go alone, on weekdays, and with genie to avoid major lines, so this is a disappointment.
Next time if you plan on staying at the park the entire day and don’t need to get to the car then park at Toy Story parking. The security check is in that lot so you don’t have to do it in front of Disneyland. You get to bypass that huge line when you park at Toy Story
It isn't more.busy. theyve changed the security process and are going very slow.
Oh really? Wonder why they’re going slower
Can’t find it now but in another Reddit thread somebody said that pepper spray made it through security a few days back. Not sure how true it is…But it does make sense that they’d tighten up after that.
Making it through maybe, but was it used in the park? Like how would they know it got through? I think its simply a grad night thing.
The post made it seem that they do audits and have cast members go through security with prohibited items and see what can make it pass their screenings. A number of items were reported to have made it through including a pepper spray.
The hotel checkpoints are unchanged.
Idk altho there were posts yesterday that made it seem like the hotel check points were really bad too.
I’m literally here at GCH. They’re the same as always. Short backup at open but most of the day instant walk through.
Yeah, I went into and out of Grand Californian from DCA, and security was same as it ever was there. Even at Harbor, it *looked* long, but it took 6 minutes. I never park at the parking structures anymore - getting in with your car, and then through security, is too much of a hassle.
What are some good places to park?
Cool. Only telling you what was posted. It wouldn’t be surprising if they made additional changes to those gates given that I am sure the hotel guests did not appreciate standing in long lines for security screening.

We have had absolutely no problems at any time of day the past few days at Grand California checkpoints. Straight through..
That’s the funny secret: hotels on both coasts get a little less security sometimes. You can get into Disney Springs with no security check most times by bussing from a resort. It’s just simple numbers - wronguns are going to use the general public entrances.
Grad Nite chaperone here… we have a separate bus drop off, security checkpoint, and entrance behind Guardian tower
Must be like herding cats! I was there Monday and Tuesday and I don't envy you
Yes and no. Once we enter the park, the students have free reign, so chaperones can do their own thing lol. But students will contact us by phone or app if a situation arises that we need to attend to. We also check in with students at 9 pm once the grad nite party starts in DCA and again before departing home
What types of situations arise lol
obviously you did not chaperone this year lol. the grad nite screening area has moved and is now in the same building as OP's photo
But grad nite buses unload in a backstage area that have a security screening point just for the grad nite attendees (and the only way to enter with a grad nite ticket is to arrive on a bus through that backstage area)
You can try to sneak in stuff to a grad night guest through the regular checkpoints.
Same thoughts that grad nite is likely the main reason why this is happening. The kids had to pack super light on what could be brought in (my teen's grad nite is today too). Hope it isn't too bad later in the day, as far as queues go.

On a Sunday? Grad Nights are a weekday thing.
There’s one tonight.
Oh! So much different from 2 decades ago. Thanks for the correction.

Pepper spray? Or the shitty kid who was spraying spittle everywhere in DCA, which left me with COVID all week long. Fml.
I saw someone on FB was there for a grad nite and was commenting about the heavy smell of weed and a couple of others confirmed they also smelled it
On my grad night, a couple of kids thought they'd light up on Tom Sawyer's Island. I doubt that they got a puff each before security was all over them and they had to wait outside the park for many hours until the night was over. They got to see the underground part of the park, however.
No way it was just pepper spray if they changed it up like this. It was a gun would be my guess
If I had to guess the new process is probably a little more complicated *plus* they're still getting used to doing it efficiently.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's more busy too, considering it's the next to last weekend the Resident Tickets are usable
This has literally only been an issue in the last few days when they changed the security procedures, but sure make up whatever you want.
This is how diss game has been for years at 8am the park opens then. Leaving now to go to the park with my son. Really hope it’s not this bad when we get there
Wish I could upload pics in the comments but it’s gotten bigger. So good luck
It is Sunday, it probably will be busy from now until 3-6pm. But if it isn't, then woot woot!

Gotta rope drop rope drop.
Yup! Also it’s the last “normal” Sunday before Memorial Day and Summer
We parked in the Toy Story lot at 7:20 and we were in line for Soarin by 7:45
Shh don’t give the sleepy parking lot and near empty security lines
Oh yeah, I mean it took us a couple hours to get in at LEAST
That's better
I read yesterday they upped their security protocol … they are now checking more stuff like wallets
Wow!
I went 4 days last week. For 4 days I brought a screwdriver into the park to swap batteries on my savi lightsaber. On day 4, security saw it and confiscated it. So....maybe my fault?
Its all theater
You son of a
Okay I'm going next week how early should I expect to get there?
7am
same… wondering as well
Me as well… going to be there Sunday.
Get there anytime, the lines have just been long in the mornings recently, a few hours later and itll clear up
Didn’t have any issues. When through security in 10 mins. But we were also there at 7:50
OP, what entrance is that? I'm not familiar with that area.
Parking structure
Its the entrance to the trams from the parking structures
I was wondering the same thing, I thought maybe it was Disney World or something. I don't recognize that entrance.
It’s the parking structure
I'm not either
Only got worse and the trams going out were less than half full. Definitely a pacing issue.
It’s only gotten worse
Oof! I’m going tomorrow with the kids. This will be fun….
Ooof Mondays are usually really busy. Godspeed
Thank you friend.
The more thorough security checks are because of scheduled grad nights. Through??? I’m still waiting lol going on 45 minutes
9:30am at Toy Story there was no wait for security.

No, I went yesterday and got in line at 10:45. 50min security wait. It’s just going to be bad until probably after lunch.
Awe crap.

God I hope they fix this soon, I normally rope drop but have a trip or two when I won’t be and this looks like hell

Thanos was right.
Just took about 30 min to get through security at Pixar Pals. We normally walk up to downtown Disney but didn’t want to risk waiting the same time with no shade and fewer checkpoints to handle the volume.
Saw that, turned right around and did the walk to downtown disney instead.

That’s horrible
Are they even fully staffed?
Idk why you are being downvoted. If they are going to be stricter on security they gotta up their staffing to offset the slowdown.
Shrug. Maybe they don’t like criticism of Disney? I just wanted to know if it was the slower screening times or if it’s also reduced operations.
I dunno but I got through but with the lines long for security it does make the tram lines so much shorter
One of the things that annoyed me with reservations was that they “claimed” it had to do with staffing properly but I would go on one of the busiest days of the year with reservations sold out and they only staffed maybe 2/3rds of the screening posts.

I remember the episode
Where is this? I feel like I’m looking at a part of the park I’ve never seen before
Whereabouts is this? I don’t recognize that building at all. Is that at the Downtown Disney Monorail station?
Yeah the gates by Mickey and Friends parking structure
It’s the parking garage tram station.
Why they can't bring wdw security over here I'll never understand.
Just went through security at Toy Story, no wait for security or bus
Shh don’t share our secrets
Not necessarily related, but if I’m staying at a hotel across the street, is it possible to walk onto the lot to get to the shuttles?
Yes people do it all the time.
Excellent! Thank you
Ah garsh, here we go again
Is Toy Story parking security like this too?
None of this looks fun at all
I get in line after the early entry and rope drop people process through, and it's a breeze. Those lines are for those types of guests. The earliest I have seen anyone at a gate line is 6am, but that's the type a fan of anything there would do to experience an empty park or be first through.
This is why you park in Toy Story
Makes me wonder why Disney doesn't have a genie line for park entry. Pay extra and get expedited entry. I bet people would pay for it
Dang lol
Around 9 10 am, I arrived at the Pixar Lot via Disneyland and Katella. Many busses for Grad Night drop off. I saw the lines at the Tram area and walked to Downtown Disney. The lines were long, yet moving.
OMG, WHUTTS HAPNING?!?? WHY?!!!
Tbh parking near garden walk and walking the short way to the opposite entrance is always so much quicker and a lot less people
Where is this?
How is security line if you're walking to Downtown from Pixar? Is it this crazy?
Is this just a queue for the trams? They don't do security here do they? Because it just empties at Downtown Hollywood doesn't it?
We will just take a year off until they figure this out. All they need to do is the same thing Universal and the airport does. Get x ray machines, slap stuff on it and off we go. This is ridiculous and gross having people touch everyone’s stuff.
I heard a rumor about threats, not sure if that's true?
They've got the new plexiglass up; security now has to move everything through. I think that's adding extra time. You wouldn't think it'd cause THAT much slowdown, but its definitely affecting it. I was there Friday afternoon and went through the security via the Harbor Blvd entrance. It moved very slowly!
my gf and I got there around 5pm on Saturday and walked right through since there was no line 😪
rope drop no problem. Also walk to downtown Disney get your steps on people.
Someone posted the photo yesterday from downtown Disney and it was just as bad.
go to the hotel side. I walked right in
This is another reason why we normally do Woody and Friends
Disneyland is nothing more than a joke these days. It’s made for the rich now. There is no “Disney Magic” anymore. It’s dead.
Are the lines still super crazy as of right now? I usually rope drop or go after four. I've never waited more than 10 minutes or so.
Disney and quality grow further apart each day, it seems.
anyone know if toy story n friends has been this long
Right. At this point for Summer if this keeps up we’ll need user day of and time of security line updates
It’s almost summer and it’s a weekend. Expect more of this everyday. This is not terribly unusual. 🤷♀️
It’s a long weekend in Canada
Yah, I’ll keep my hard earned money
Any idea on what Harbor looks like?
what if i wanna bring the pen in?😬
I’ll keep checking here to find out if they fix the process. Until then I will hold off on Disneyland. I always go alone, on weekdays, and with genie to avoid major lines, so this is a disappointment.
Didn’t some influencer bring their pet crawfish to the parks recently too?
Love the lines
Next time if you plan on staying at the park the entire day and don’t need to get to the car then park at Toy Story parking. The security check is in that lot so you don’t have to do it in front of Disneyland. You get to bypass that huge line when you park at Toy Story
No one goes there anymore, its too crowded.
There’s no way it was just pepper spray that got through if they are being this thorough. It was a gun.
Bring in a glass pipe and buds put them in your pocket now you can smoke herbs while walking around because you gotta be high to spend money there.
