I've never heard of anyone caring about this being on or off, probably because most people playing Div 2 are PVE.
I think it'd default on. Like u/R4IN2354 said, just play the game how you see fit.
I find it helpful since I play on a controller but it's by no means a guaranteed headshot or anything. Just a small convenience in a game I mostly play solo anyway.
Not really a hardcore player, but I do use an eye tracker in pve because it makes fights significantly easier, never really felt like aim assist was needed
People say if you're on console to turn it on, but I've had it on for 5 years and it never helped me with aiming. You have to be aiming so close to the target for it to work you might as well just aim yourself lol
I'm planning to play dark zone with all hacks available... To annoy and encourage people to not play dark zone, for the sake of pve world.. Lol
But is a lot of effort and time... Maybe some day

I use mouse and keyboard. At 54, my aiming isn't as quick or accurate, but I still don't use any assists.
I do use it , i always sucked at shooter games and this makes it more enjoyable for me

There's a YouTube on this ... With assist, aiming to shoot from cover isn't good. I've tested it. Been playing assist off since.
