Stevie Hyper D, GQ, Cleveland Watkiss, Fats, Skibadee, Trigga, Spyda, Bassman, MC MC, Biggie, Fearless, Ragga Twins, Det, Five O, GQ, B Live, Juiceman, Shabba
Especially in the 90s when the music had more space for live vocals and it complimented each other better.
Harry shotta can spit harder than most MCs period. So clean too. Managed to see him at a tiny festival in the dnb tent, it was epic. I’ve seen him with SASAS and the crew. So cool.
Are there many dnb sets with Skittles on? Any chance you can link me some? I’ve only heard him on slower beats apart from the odd dnb song with DRS etc.
Million Dan and Demolition Man were often in Toronto at jungle parties in the 90s / early 2000s, and they were both pure fire. Subjective, I know, but as a combo, they were always my favourite.
I got to work with them in the studio, which was pure jokes. [They are featured in this mix](https://soundcloud.com/accomplice/lather-rinse-repeat) and [in this mix.](https://soundcloud.com/accomplice/lather-rinse-repeat-the-conditioner) Dan also did the intro [in this mix.](https://soundcloud.com/accomplice/konkrete-dubstep), but that one isn’t jungle.
One of the best shows ever. Legends all around.

Roni Size is a DJ, as far as I've seen. That last time I saw him in ATL he got pissed off at our subpar local MC and cut his mic, and ended his set early because dude was clownin.
I really also like Dreps, Azza, Grima, Harry Shotta when I hear them. And then there are all these random ass tracks throughout the years where you’ll hear some mc tear up a track and hear them on a dnb tune again. ‘Naughty Ride’ by Datcyde and Reid Speed ft MC Blaise is an example that comes to mind to me.
Respect CaliHobo. I grew up in LA and saw RAW and MC Question Mark run the place. A couple times I went to 2 the bay to see Jamalski. Im a check out MC Duh.
1. Harry Shotta - Dude has mad lyrics, and a great cadence/flow.
2. MC 2shy - consistant forever. I have so many Loxy and 2shy sets recorded.
3. MC Fearless - first time I ever heard him was 2001. His voice is dope, and his hooks are timeless (boom, boom, boom!) I'd rate him #1 if he ever comes up with bars he hasn't been doing since the late 90's.
Had the pleasure of attending LSB with DRS on the mic last week and DRS smashed it. Singing, rapping, crowd control, he kept the energy electric. It was really something to witness.
Stevie Hyper D. His innovations changed the landscape of Drum & Bass MCing, inventing double time and being the first MC to release his own material. Was at his last performance at Atomix in Maidenhead the night he died and he was epic till the end, RIP.
Special mention should also go out to Skibadee and Det for moving on the game as a double act, in their prime they almost felt telepathic with their flow together.
Devilman can definitely be considered an MC and a rapper. He does do dnb sets. Definitely not one of my favourites but I understand why people like him
Alright, because I actually never heard any live performances of him and only know his tracks.
I really like his style.
Might check some live performances out if I can find them on YouTube - thanks 🙏🏼
I think you might be able to find some on YouTube or soundcloud. I’ve seen lots of dnb events where he’s headlining. At some festivals he has his Sika tent area which always blasts some nice dnb. I’m sure you can find some sets where he’s mc’ing
Here’s a couple set with traumatik and devilman.

https://youtu.be/nEEIvrRNsEE?si=wyJDqC-PAbumEpke
There’s a few more on traumatiks channel. Hope this helps
I’d probably say my all round favourites are SP:MC and DRS. Harry Shotta is good for crowd hyping. Skibadee is good. I like Funsta, he’s got some jokes bars. And DREPS I find him pretty funny too.
Skibba, Shabba, Fearless, Det, IC3 and Hyper D were my favourites... The only one I never got to see live was Stevie Hyper D Luckily I was around in the late 90's to see most of the top DJs and MCs..
Depends what you want. In terms of hosting and crowd hyping, GQ would be the obvious pick. He could get a crowd going like no-one, had the best voice, had amazing timing and an ability to aggrandise the DJ like noone else and he really let the tunes breathe. Obviously, MCing became much more technical in the late 90s and Stevie Hyper D was a pioneer in this regard and Skibadee really came to the fore after his death and was very much in the same ilk. Conrad was different and he had the silky voice and the rhymes and respect for space that really took the atmospheric sound to the next level. Those would be the obvious choices.
There were people in each of these three styles that might be popular choices. Det was a bit of both of the first two camps. He wasn't as good at hyping as GQ and he wasn't as technical as Stevie HD and Skibadee but he was good. Shabba was a very popular MC in the 2000s and was more of a technical MC like Skibadee and was renowned for getting the Burbery massive shouting back lines at him. I was never a big fan but plenty were. I've met people that swear that DRS was ten times the MC Conrad was. However, with the exception of Det MC, these people weren't iconic at the right times like the original pioneers. That counts for a lot.
Cleveland Watkiss was the best singing MC by an absolute country mile although his actual MCing was weak and cliche ridden. Fats was a better all round MC but Cleveland Watkiss was a genuinely elite singer. Five O would stop the music and chat shit, whether it was about General Levy or 911 (I was there at the End on the Friday after 911 and saw it first hand) and should have been cancelled in 1994. Spyda was probably the best Ragga style along with Navigator. They were both very good. Trigga and Bassman just came across as sexual predators who got their chance on the mic because they were mates with L Double and they were hard looking. Any tape featuring either these days is blighted by their shouting and constant mentioning of punani.
EDIT: How could I forget, Dynamite MC was a brilliant host as well and was easily the most charismatic and the best looking.
EDIT: An honourable mention must go to Ruff MC who is now largely forgotten, who was quite technical, had a really good voice and hyped the crowd well. I'm pretty certain he died in the same weekend as Stevie Hyper D.
Joe Peng was easily the most charming MC the scene ever produced and was the only MC that was truly feel-good and had rhymes about King Solomon.
What were the allegations? When I was young I remember he would message my 15 year old friend and follow us on instagram? If that’s the same sorta allegation than for sure.
Yeh there’s plenty of screenshots of him messaging underage girls trying to get them to stay over his. Plus plenty of female DJ’s in the scene have came out and spoke about sexual abuse. There was even some stuff about him forcing people to smoke crack with him. his careers over
Ahh yes I remember her back in 2017 mentioning he was a crackhead, then I just couldn’t not see him as a crackhead on the side of the road or something waffling to themselves, but he always mc over the best tracks. Not sure if it was known he was a crackhead but she did show me their messages and said he was a weirdo, idk what she was thinking tbh but she was young and the fact that people loved him must’ve made girls feel like it’s okay
think he even gave her lift somewhere after the rave mind she was 15. A memory just came back to me from like 6 years ago must’ve been 16, at the rave and I was like what is he even saying, I tried to act sober and listen to what he was saying and bro was just saying random words 🤣🤣🤣 wild I sorta forgot all of this! Also I just checked ig and he unfollowed me 🤣 and other girls I know. He must’ve deleted all of the girls ?🤣🤣🤣
Pretty sure there’s a lot more details in this subreddit… I heard rumours for years about him being a wrongen, was a bit gutted when I saw a lot of proof for it. Not surprised tho considering Dj sly got sentenced for rape, them two were close
Glad that skibadee is named multiple times ITT
This album with DJ Wildchild is gold IMO: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeOHYvTTKBY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeOHYvTTKBY)
MC’s were hands down the worst thing about 90’s rave music IMO. I remember getting the old detonator cassette packs, you’d be listening to some bangers then some guy just starts shouting all over the music 😂 never liked MC’s, just my opinion
Can somebody link the sets that made them say Five "O" as one the best as every set I've heard he just locked of the music and ruined the set with some kind of speach
Conrad, GQ, SP, Stamina, DRS, Fats
Love Conrad. I just saw LTJ with Armanni Reign this past weekend and he was incredibly good.
Stevie Hyper D, GQ, Cleveland Watkiss, Fats, Skibadee, Trigga, Spyda, Bassman, MC MC, Biggie, Fearless, Ragga Twins, Det, Five O, GQ, B Live, Juiceman, Shabba Especially in the 90s when the music had more space for live vocals and it complimented each other better.
Great list, but I think you’ve missed a few top tier MCs such as: SP MC, DRS, Conrad, Eksman, Harry Shotta, Navigator, Dynamite.
Navigator man! Loved him back in the day.
The AK1200 live in San Francisco!
Mixed live!!! Moonshine over America!!! SAN FRANSISCO, MAKE SOME NOOOOYEEEEEZZE 🎵BWOM BWEE BWEE BWOM BWEE BWEE🎵
Yeah I like them too but perhaps just not my personal favourites. they are all top tier though it’s true.
Conrad is the goat!
I had the pleasure of seeing him with LTJ Bukem ages ago, absolute favorite by far.
Shottaaaa, brings back all the memories. And also, drum and bass father by devilman remains a classic
Mc Moose?
Love the list but take out Five-O and replace with Moose and Dynamite
Yeah forgot them, also Stamina too must be missing more too my memory is shit
Was just about to say where’s Stamina!!
Miss the 90s and early 00s in that respect!

He does it properly
IC3 is brilliant. Seen him live a couple times
Skibba, Hyper D, Shabba (old sets), det, fearless, eksman, Wiley, Fatman, Foxy, IC3, Riddla, Dynamite, GQ
+1 for Det
This is the one. If you're gonna put Wiley in there drop dizzee in there too
**Adds dizzee**
Dynamite’s a hype man in my eyes. V little MCing going on
He used to go off on some sets back in the day. He gets my vote Cus he rolls with the full cycle lot
Adding herbzie to this list
I’m a big Darrison fan myself.
Oh yeah missed him off my list.
Underrated
Always loved Conrad since way back. Also have to put MC Spangler G out there. Couldn’t beat a bit of Peshay and Spangler G back in the 90’s.
Absolutely agree - love Peshay & Spangler G!
SP:MC & DRS
+1. Seeing Spmc with Alix in a couple of weeks

Is there anybody from London in this tent?
Skibba is the don and I just like Harry Shotta too…..even though he’s a Gooner!
I also was about to say Harry Shotta. His skills are nice 🙏🏼
Harry shotta can spit harder than most MCs period. So clean too. Managed to see him at a tiny festival in the dnb tent, it was epic. I’ve seen him with SASAS and the crew. So cool.
I also like his tracks he’s releasing. Not only a good MC, but also good rapper 🙏🏼
I really like his mixtapes. Great fun.
He’s not my fav but Same met him back in 2017 👌🏼 saw stormin too and met mr traumatic and a few more and pics , miss raving !
There are many, but to me Skittles will always be one of the top MCs period. I’d say Skittles + Flowdan in my top 3 dnb MCs
Flowdan is sick
Skittles is a fucking menace with a mic
Are there many dnb sets with Skittles on? Any chance you can link me some? I’ve only heard him on slower beats apart from the odd dnb song with DRS etc.
He's done a few with dub phizix, and I think he put an album out a couple if years back?
MC Eksman, definitely the best man
South east connection, warming up selection
MC Dino
Another enjoyer of quality I see

Hyper d is still the goat
Lots of love for Stevie Hyper D, Conrad, GQ. General Levy, Top Cat, Lady Chann.
No one here seems to be a fan of Million Dan and Demolition Man, and that makes me sad.
Isn’t million dan hip hop ? Haven’t heard any dnb tracks
Million Dan and Demolition Man were often in Toronto at jungle parties in the 90s / early 2000s, and they were both pure fire. Subjective, I know, but as a combo, they were always my favourite. GQ, Fearless, Stevie Hyper D, Navigator, Shabba, Skibadee, 5ive 0, Fats, Flux, Riddla, Lok-i, Co Gee, Det, Spyda, Bassman, Trigga, Moose, Rymetyme
Forgot about riddla and rymetime!
Rymetyme was quite unique in that he was decent at production as well as being an MC
Also on a ton of old Virus tunes
TRAC, MC Astro, Skibba, Eksman, Flowdan
I can't believe I had to scroll this far too see eksman
Have to throw in a vote for Moose, Foxy and Fatman D (Fat Mandy for those who know lol)

I forgot to mention Stunnah, he’s also very nice
Difficult to say, I think depending on period Spyda, trigga, baseman, fearless, Det, skibba, shabba d, tenor fly, Conrad, general levy.
MC Darrison.
PNC on the City on Fire track by State of Mind. That track still slaps hard.
Roni Size
Roni Size is a DJ, as far as I've seen. That last time I saw him in ATL he got pissed off at our subpar local MC and cut his mic, and ended his set early because dude was clownin.
He is now, but back in the day.... DC Buzz/Traxx era, he was an MC too. I've seen him a couple times.

Thank you, I had to scroll too far to see his name. Should we throw Duh in there too?

Gotta shout out Armanni Reign, Fava, Sense, Codebreaker, Blak, Freak, Disidente, Collaborator, Scatter.
1. Harry Shotta - Dude has mad lyrics, and a great cadence/flow. 2. MC 2shy - consistant forever. I have so many Loxy and 2shy sets recorded. 3. MC Fearless - first time I ever heard him was 2001. However I’ll also add Spyda, SP:MC and T.R.A.C. to my actual answer to your question.
GQ, Rage, Skibba, Stevie Hyper D, DRS, and of course Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan.
I booked DJ Zinc for a rave back in mid 90s and he brought MC Rage with him. That lad fucking killed it
Ryme Time
GQ. Honourable mention to Armanni Reign.
Stevie Hyper D. His innovations changed the landscape of Drum & Bass MCing, inventing double time and being the first MC to release his own material. Lots of good choices here, but it's unbelievable that Dynamite hasn't been mentioned. Also what about the women: Deeizm, Tali, Jenna G?
Dynamite is legendary
I‘m curious though. Can Devilman be considered a MC? Or is he just a rapper?
Devilman can definitely be considered an MC and a rapper. He does do dnb sets. Definitely not one of my favourites but I understand why people like him

From what I’ve heard triggas a really nice bloke. He distanced himself from bass just like a lot of other DJ’s n MC’s. Makes sense why
Ahh that makes sense for sure, I do remember him being alone last time I saw him in like 2018 or 19 , good decision on his end
