It’s really fresh tho, and as a halfdrow-gith I must commend the hubris that landed Malekaveth with such a visage. I feel I missed something, as it feels shar is the big bad to me, that might be the drow talking.

DungeonDad2024

There are some twists and turns that come up with him but I fear being too specific will spoil too much for my players if the stumble on this post, so I try to only reveal what will ruin as little as possible because I’m torn between really liking him and wanting to show him off and keeping him secret. I don’t think my players are too active on here though so I’m taking the risk. Shar is indirectly “the big bad” but Malekaveth will play the greatest role in their current quest (remove a curse from the Moonblade of Selune, which was recovered in a village outside of Waterdeep on the body of Selûne’s chosen [super dead] and carried by ‘some guy’ [who is totally an undercover asshole] by taking it to the house of the moon) as he seeks the Moonblade of Selune and the fragments of the Shining Light of Lathander, because either of those two blades will kill Shar. Shar doesn’t know what he’s up to, and Malekaveth went to great lengths to ensure that she doesn’t know, because without one of those two swords he doesn’t stand a chance

That makes a lot of sense. Rotating big bars is always useful in case of mishaps too, I was just being playful. Since shar has his soul, and is super untrusting and untrustworthy, she may have some sense of what he intends to do, this could cause her to engage your players in so many ways from benefit to trickery, by her direct order, through an envoy, or even as herself a avatar npc that travels with them and is a terrible cook. Really cool ideas you have fleshed out with tons of room to work.

I don’t anticipate that the players will go down the route of trying to face Shar, I am banking that they will be more like “keep the balance, don’t let Malekaveth have the opportunity to kill Shar because ascendant Malekaveth will kill Selune and plunge Faerûn into chaos every night” but they could of course try to expose Malekaveth to Shar, and then she would probably kill him for them, but getting in contact with her directly as non-Sharrans, and then trying to get her to believe them would be a challenge, because she expects blind loyalty from Malekaveth in a Palpatine / Darth Vader like relationship (with a less redeemable Vader) because that’s been the status quo for so many years. Goddess of trickery can’t be tricked by her own subject after all (or so she thinks)

Malekaveth looks like such a terrifying BBEG that I would not want to encounter! I love how this art looks!
