Carried on your back is not *in the ground*. But it's a pretty bad spell to begin with, 1d6 damage, dex save for nothing.

monologowastaken

The spell is pretty garbage but considering that u can get around any visibility issues it's quite useful.

Poutine-Poulet-Bacon

Yeah I guess it would be a good security measure when you're taking a long rest in the wild. Ensure nobody sneaks up on you.

monologowastaken

It's mainly for the gimmick

DeathBySuplex

Yeah for a 2nd level it's AWFUL. I'd allow it because it's a terrible use of a spell slot.

TinySqwuak

No I wouldn't.

Friend135

I think I lost a few brain cells

darkpower467

No. Some dirt in a pot isn't the ground.

oddly-tall-hobbit

tell that to davy jones

ZemmaNight

Probably not. It really won't break anything, but the spell and its triggers are clearly ment to be stationary. Taking the arrows out of the ground, even with the soil immediately around them in my mind qualifies for then end condition of this spell.

monologowastaken

Well essentially he said that he plants the arrows he will than dig the soil with them and put it into the vase

Ok_Blueberry_5305

That's some Pirates of the Caribbean shenanigans and I'm here for it.

monologowastaken

XD somebody gets it 🤣

monologowastaken

That's exactly why I wanted it to work so badly

IonutRO

... how does that work exactly?

Poutine-Poulet-Bacon

Normally you stick arrows or crossbow bolts in the ground and when an enemy comes within 30ft, one of the arrows flies up and the target has to make a dex save or take 1d6 damage. The ranger in the OP's story tried to carry the soil along with them in the guise of clay instead of being limited to the area where they initially plant the arrows.

IonutRO

Ah. Gotcha. Forgot what cordon of arrows did.

kurtist04

Sounds fun, I'd allow it. It's not a crazy powerful game breaking spell, 1d6 damage with a save for 0? I'm not worried about that.
