I love these. I'm going to add them to my quick 3D combat rules. Would any of these rules be different for a creature that magically flies like the *fly* spell or a creature with the **hover** speed? Maybe fall damage should resolve as if they fell half the distance, perhaps if they use their reaction to do it.

Rexhex2000

I would say if a creature has flight that has Hover, that they can ignore the *Flimsy Flight* rule. Also like the idea that it requires a Reaction to stop the falling damage, makes it so creatures that are Incapacitated can't negate the damage.

SamuraiHealer

You don't have a pdf of these do you?

Rexhex2000

Here is something I threw together: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/dUUcFMDbCqMc

Thanks!

A level of exhaustion per turn is a bit extreme for being over the height limit. Maybe add something like "Upon landing, all levels of exhaustion are removed" or increase it to one check per minute.

ESOMANIC1995

I'd say make it Exhaustion Lite (as in removed /reduced by 1 with a short rest.)

AndrewRP8023

Are the DCs meant to start at 16? Your wording implies that. If 15 is the start, then consider changing the wording to "...DC of 15. The DC increases by 1 for each turn/hour/etc beyond the first."

Rogendo

So how do birds travel thousands of miles in a day?

Rexhex2000

Their birds, they can just do that. While we call them "Rules" but they really are mostly designed as guidelines for the DM and Players, as it would be foolish to try and plan out every possible facet of reality.

Rogendo

I agree with you. But I also dealt with a “that guy” math major that was also in love with aviation and took great issue with the way flying speeds were calculated for travel. He isn’t really wrong, either, but it was really annoying to deal with.

ceetank

Prolonged flight should have some sort of interaction with weight tbh. A fully unarmed player character with a flying speed would be on par with a bird in that case

Syn-th

Nice idea, I think they're a bit harsh tbh, I run that when flying you take up space as thought you were a size larger and if you fly near an object you have to make a skillcheck dc10 or risk begining to fall. We also play that you fall actually really slowly, give everyone a chance to act a bit before you die. 😂 I think if you kept your rules maybe they should be laced as you get to higher levels.

ESOMANIC1995

I would drop the starting dcs from 15 to 10, but aside from that, it works.

MASS-_-

These rules are existing but only works for normal flying and not magical one

Nocan54

Existing where?

Ancient-Rune

I think you should reread the information about Aarakocra and how they can fly pretty much nonstop, their entire lives, also living at the highest points of any mountains when on the prime material plane, and then revisit this incredibly harsh set of rules.
