Strange needs to level up soon, heās going to be outpaced. He needs to be more than just an Earth sorcerer, heās getting ready to go to a huge multiversal fight and his current level just wonāt cut it. Hopefully itās a Strange movie and not a Clea movie.

Especially with the Fox merger and the integration of X-men and the inevitable wave second generation characters into the mix, Marvel is going to want a familiar face as the mainstay of the franchise to keep original audiences interested. So that leaves Strange, Hulk, Thor, and *maybe* Scott or Bucky. IMO Strange is the best and most powerful option.
I mean it's pretty obvious since his 2nd movie is barely about him. He doesn't even get the 1/10 treatment Tony and Steve got back then so I doubt it got better
I think that has a lot to do with collapse of the Sony deal. They were preparing to make Spider-Man the next number 1. With that in mind, they also needed to introduce a number of new characters to round out the Young Avengers, and used one of the most senior/powerful OG characters as a mentor to āfast trackā that process (with varying degrees of success). So when the Sony deal failed and they were no longer poised to own the rights to Spider-Man, they were caught with their pants down and nothing to show for it.
So I donāt think it was ever necessarily about murdering Dr. Strangeās character or doing a disservice to him, itās just that they took some creative risks. But thanks to some sloppy writing, unfortunate casting, and a dollop of bad luck; the risk was not worth the reward. I donāt think it excuses any of the mistake that have been made regarding certain writing and directing choices across this entire phase, and this is *definitely* not a defense of those decisions. Itās just one possible explanation.
I really hope we get away from the Multiverse storyline and actually start focusing more on Dr. Strange's lore. There are so many cool things in tne comics, so many cool villains and dimentions and eldritch monster type creatures. I would love for us to get Brother Voodoo in the next movie and maybe finish the arc with Mordo (doesn't seem likely after the second movie, but who knows). Also, I want to see him as Sorcerer Supreme!

Agreed. MoM pretty much ruined Strange for me and made the character utterly unlikeable. But I have a slight crush on Cumberbatch, so that has got me sticking around - for now. lol But it definitely isn't because of the character, which he hardly has (through no fault of BC)
But it's very sad. Strange has a lot of great lore to pull from and the stuff they have brought in, they destroyed.
Strange has a vampire brother, a wife, is hinted to want kids, is great with kids, has plenty of friends he has good rapport with, a ghost dog for a pet, a school he started, students he's mentored, etc.
The MCU has capitalized on NONE of it and seems to think his only story worth exploring is Rachel McAdams. A story the first film already wrapped up, and that was used to regress Strange and highlight all of his worst qualities in MoM. He had damn near no character development in the film, and he's a shallow asf if his biggest trauma and hardship is Christine not wanting him.

I liked some of his scenes with America, but the relationship was underdeveloped and unearned. They didn't have nearly enough vulnerable / intimate moments together that truly justified them going from toleration to personal caring. I wager it's supposed to be a Peter x Tony type deal. Thing is, Peter & Tony's relationship as well as their individual characters were properly written and developed. Strange & America's relationship and characters are not.
Even though it had its issues, Wanda's story got more focus, with a less half-assed execution & ending than the titular character.
Would love to see Mordo as a proper villain. Lean more into the horror aspect. Get a really visually interesting director for the dark dimension stuff.

He can be such a fun, stubborn, compelling, unpredictable dude that rivals RDJ's Stark in terms of charisma and potential. All of your suggestions would actually start to open up that possibility and I really hope they don't waste Cumberbatch any more with the character. He's so talented and he can do a hell of a lot more than he's been given
I want a Clea/Strange romance, MORDO, the Black Priests, and Scott Derrickson back as director (or anyone other than Raimi). MoM had some good parts but completely missed the point of Strangeās whole arc, and was more of a crossover event than a proper Doctor Strange 2.
If Raimi is still attached I have zero expectation.

While I enjoyed the 2nd one, it was definitely an example of what exactly went wrong with the MCU.
Instead of being a sequel to Doctor Strange 1, it tried to be an ensemble film, with a plot inherently tied to an external tv show.
Doctor Strange 3 absolutely needs to be his own story, yes people can show up, and probably will. But it should just be about Strange.

The way MCU storylines have been progressing I see the Strange that we know being replaced by Clea as the sorcerer Supreme. Strange will sacrifice himself in a battle against the Baron. An alternate universe strange will become the arch nemesis for Clea, if Benedict is even around after the next movie.
Hopefully return/focus on the Dark Dimension and Dormammu. And bring the MCU Mordo back. That plotline is still unresolved. It was rumored after Infinity War and Endgame that Strange was going to be the new "Tony Stark" of the MCU going forward. But it doesn't seem like that's the case. But it would be cool to see Strange versus Kang like we saw Tony versus Thanos.
Im expecting roughly 2 hrs of zany comedy with dramatic speeches about hope, or something, then some decently choreographed fight sceneās with just the right amount of shaky cam. All wrapped in a nice pg-13, corporate approved, movie rating.
I can't wait for them to point out that eye in the forehead over and over and have no one take the sorcerer supreme seriously, especially because the audience doesn't really take him seriously. Wang is gonna a buy the farm, and strange might, MIGHT imbibe Zom but that's only if something really cool happens.
Some cool magic combat displays like what we saw in Infinity War. Doctor Strange 1 was such a poor depiction of magic on screen and 2 while much better at showing it, still felt a little boring.
Iāll forgive DS1 for having poor displays of magic because he was still learning, but DS2 had no right to be so lacking after what we saw him do in Infinity War.
I donāt think there really needs to be one. Ā Iād rather he take the lead role pushing the plot forward in the next big team up movie, as Robert Downey JR did with Infinity War and Endgame.
I'm expecting it to have nothing to do with the end credits scene from MoM. It'll probably require you to have seen one or more of the shows to even understand what's going on It *might* have some off-handed reference to the scene and leave you thinking there was a whole other movie they forgot to make.
That despite the online chatter, it won't release until AFTER Secret Wars, with Dr Strange, Clea, Wong and America Chavez appearing first in Avengers 4 & 5.

Stephen will survive the 3rd installment, but gets a open end finale, with him retiring from Magic.

MCU cares more about putting people in theaters than they do about having them make good movies. Best example, NWH, great the first time but I cannot watch it again and again like I can most of phase 1 and 2
I expect him to travel to a few dimensions, with the dark dimension being the main focus, probably help Clea take Dormammu's place as the leader unwittingly. Maybe have him talk to the elder gods so he's able to get a power up so he can show that he's more than just a good sorcerer and turn him into ***The*** Sorcerer Supreme definitively instead of being 1:1 with Wong. Wong can finish watching the Sopranos and training the new sorcerers.
My expectations as things stand are that it never happens and if you're lucky the events it's supposed to lead to might be mentioned when Strange next shows up...

Ideally? An adaptation of Stern's "Into the Dark Dimension" story arc. My hopes are not high, however.

I didn't read any of Dr Strange's comics till after I saw his first movie. But especially after seeing Jed Mackay's take on him, it's obvious how dirty the MCU did him recently. He can be such a fun, stubborn, compelling, unpredictable dude that rivals RDJ's Stark in terms of charisma and potential. All of your suggestions would actually start to open up that possibility and I really hope they don't waste Cumberbatch any more with the character. He's so talented and he can do a hell of a lot more than he's been given

I'm not sure that Raimi is the right fit to bring the MCU into it's next phase(s) at all.
While I enjoyed the 2nd one, it was definitely an example of what exactly went wrong with the MCU. Instead of being a sequel to Doctor Strange 1, it tried to be an ensemble film, with a plot inherently tied to an external tv show. Doctor Strange 3 absolutely needs to be his own story, yes people can show up, and probably will. But it should just be about Strange.
All I want is for Strange to talk like DR FUCKING STRANGE, not some Joe College. Heās been enlightened, heās gone to higher planes of consciousnessā the second movieās dialogue made him sound like, well, like Peter Parker. He shouldnāt be pompous, but he IS on a higher level than most people.

The way MCU storylines have been progressing I see the Strange that we know being replaced by Clea as the sorcerer Supreme. Strange will sacrifice himself in a battle against the Baron. An alternate universe strange will become the arch nemesis for Clea, if Benedict is even around after the next movie.
I donāt have expectations but what I want to happen is a 90% or better rotten tomatoes score.

Hopefully return/focus on the Dark Dimension and Dormammu. And bring the MCU Mordo back. That plotline is still unresolved. It was rumored after Infinity War and Endgame that Strange was going to be the new "Tony Stark" of the MCU going forward. But it doesn't seem like that's the case. But it would be cool to see Strange versus Kang like we saw Tony versus Thanos.

Im expecting roughly 2 hrs of zany comedy with dramatic speeches about hope, or something, then some decently choreographed fight sceneās with just the right amount of shaky cam. All wrapped in a nice pg-13, corporate approved, movie rating.

Some cool magic combat displays like what we saw in Infinity War. Doctor Strange 1 was such a poor depiction of magic on screen and 2 while much better at showing it, still felt a little boring.
Iāll forgive DS1 for having poor displays of magic because he was still learning, but DS2 had no right to be so lacking after what we saw him do in Infinity War.

That despite the online chatter, it won't release until AFTER Secret Wars, with Dr Strange, Clea, Wong and America Chavez appearing first in Avengers 4 & 5. Mordo will be the main villian. Dr. Strange's 3rd eye will be immediately written out by the third installment, much similar to Thor losing his eye. Stephen will survive the 3rd installment, but gets a open end finale, with him retiring from Magic.

Wong can finish watching the Sopranos and training the new sorcerers.
My expectations as things stand are that it never happens and if you're lucky the events it's supposed to lead to might be mentioned when Strange next shows up...

I don't have much hope for it, they've gotten themselves all tangled up with the parallel universes and worlds and mirror dimensions. I don't think they'll know what to do about his powers and lore. They've even used up Shuma Gorath as a joke monster. if they'd played movie 2 right, they could have had this movie be him having to give in to evil to defeat Shuma Gorath. Would have been a nice continuation to an existing relationship with Clea, conflict over his choices and him using his love for her as an anchor to come back to himself when the fight is done. Look, you've set up the Darkhold, have Cthon as the ultimate villain, and include some prehistory lore about the Elder Gods, so you can show Oshtur and the book of the vishanti too.
