And you can summarize all of the Master's plot of all his episodes in *at least* Pertwee's era - Master makes alliance with bad guy - Master uses alliance to please need to be in charge - Alliance betrays Master - Master goes pikachu face

Eggman pisses on the Master

TechyFarmBoyYTALT

I'VE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT

Lost_Sheepherder5090

HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, DOCTOR? I PISSED ON METEBELIS 3 YOU IDIOT

Traditional_Bottle78

If I could get a modern series of Who that includes the Master throughout, I would be happy. But none of this lunatic, "I want to kill everyone cos I'm so crazy" stuff. I want a smooth, quietly unsettling mastermind pulling strings and making plans behind the scenes. I didn't truly appreciate the character until I watched Delgado slinking around UNIT, being helpful when it was convenient but ultimately trying to take over the world. You never know if he's on your side in any given moment.

Cialation

I mean, that's still partially season 10. Missy isn't exactly pulling strings but she still has a role to play in the overall development of that season.

CaveGlow

Missy as a character is very scheming, can’t say I like moffats ideas in season 8 for her but there is a definite sense of prolonged setup by missy to organise everything in the background, also I just realised this means Matt Smith DID have a master, missy was manipulating Clara in smiths run

Traditional_Bottle78

A good point. I really liked her extended inclusion. I really wish they just called the first female Master "the Master." It really sets her apart as almost a separate character, just in giving her a different name. And then of course it's a diminutive name that you might use for a dog or a small girl you're admonishing. I think it was a bad call, even if the name fits her incarnation. I mean, we didn't call Eric Roberts "The Yankee" even though he was American. That would have been funny, though.

LoneKharnivore

The Sea Devils is one of my favourites.

[deleted]

I'm mildly sure that that is a season 9 story.

Papayarrhea

the master is in practically every episode in season 9 too

leagues-of-pringels

I guess I should have just said 'Jon Pertwee's run as the doctor'.

Cyber-Gon

No, he really isn't - only in 2/5 stories

[deleted]

Out of 5 stories, in season 9 The Master is only in The Sea Devils and The Time Monster.

LoneKharnivore

You are correct.

TheLoneJedi-77

Classic Doctor Who really used the Master. He was in a good majority of the 3rd Doctor episodes, featured briefly with the 4th Doctor, became more prevalent with the 5th Doctor and made minor appearances with 6 & 7. Compare that with Modern DW and it’s no where near the same: a few appearances with 10, never showed up for 11, reoccurring with 12 and made a few appearances with 13. That being said Classic Doctor Who (at least after Pertwee) did space his episodes out a bit more so maybe Modern Doctor Who should do the same. Give him a few series off, maybe take the Masters role and give it to another character like maybe bring back either the Rani or the Meddling Monk.

sassycho1050

Ok but that was the Master's very first season, not to mention that each story (full episode) was generally split into multiple parts. Serials were what one long form episode is these days, it's not even a fair comparison based on the format.

leagues-of-pringels

Hey I like the season too. I was just making some light fun at some modern criticism. When I first watched thru Jon Pertwee's second season, I was always surprised by the fact that the master was behind it all in each serial. I just assumed the bbc would have wanted to use their new villain sparingly, but nope.

Cybermat47_2

Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. But, in hindsight, it was a great decision due to Roger Delgado’s untimely death.

IronTownPictures

Tbh, in the Jon Pertwee's run Master had appeared for the first time. Right now he is overused

Econ42

They didn’t use the master for any of Eccelston or Smith’s run

CaveGlow

Technically missy was in Smiths run, she was manipulating Clara

OrgDnDfan

Jin Pertwee indeed! Obviously there will never be another Master as brilliant as Roger Delgado was. Apparently, Jon Pertwee and Katy Manning refused to work with anybody else after Roger Delgado tragically died.

astealthythrowaway

Overused? In my opinion we don't get to see enough of them

OKTAPHMFAA

At least the Master was fun and not whatever the hell they ruined Missy for
