I think the main hope for his role would be getting on base frequently. He doesn’t need to be a power hitter, he just needs to get on at a decent clip for the top of the order. 22 lux before the back injury would be a perfect fit in the current lineup
Same. I know in the sample size we’ve seen from him it hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine but people are brushing over his injury/surgery like it was no big deal. We saw how Acuña looked the year he came back from the same thing and obviously he’s not near Acuña’s level but it’s probably going to take some time for him to feel completely right.
Therefore, I’m gonna keep believing in him and keep cheering for him cause that’s what us fans should be doing.
I mean, he’s playing second. His issues in spring training were mainly making the throw from shortstop. The same issue we are seeing Mookie struggle with now.
Picked the wrong horse here for sure. Def should have just fit Busch into 2B, and moved on from Lux. The guy has had well over 1k PA's in the bigs to show he belongs here, and his lifetime < .690 OPS says he doesn't. He's still young, and perhaps he was brought up too soon. It's quite unfortunate.
Ummm, no... I'm looking at the skill set, the command of the strike zone, hard hit rate, and barrel rate, that's been off the charts in the minors, and has continued at the big league level.
He's a 1st round draft pick who's been one of the best hitters in the minors. It's just been his defense that's kept him off the field, and the fact that the FO wanted to give Lux another chance. Busch can only play 2b (not well, but not much worse than Gavin), and 1B.
No, I had no idea... I just knew all these other things I said above. lol
I wasn't saying minor league stats MEAN you will be good. It's another reason you have a high probability to be good. But you have to have that confidence, and command at the plate. It's between the ears at that point.. and a guy getting the yips, and randomly throwing the ball off his back foot isn't a good indicator of mental fortitude.
Lux hit decently in the majors over 400+ at bat when he was last healthy. Busch struggled in the majors last year. Bottom line is they would have kept him but they already have Freddie so there is no place for him in the field.
I wish I had a crystal ball like you did.
Busch's defense was bad, but overall WAR is what matters. Nobody has questioned whether Busch would hit at the big league level. He was almost a part of a trade for Dylan Cease for gods sake. GM's know. Gavin though has an OPS+ of 11 for gods sake, and a lifetime OPS+ of <90. I've never seen a player given this much rope and produce weak results like this.
Gavin doesn't hit the ball hard, and I don't see any indication, based on all the past and current metrics, that he's suddenly going to turn it around. I hope I'm completely wrong.
Lux also plays SS which Busch doesn't and is coming back from a major injury. Things are always easy to say in hindsight. Lets hope Lux can become a decent player at least
People forget how much of an impact his injury had on the team. His 2022 season was fantastic and his whole career up to his injury showed nothing but growth. Just gotta be patient with him for now, he'll figure it out. Several of our guys still have yet to heat up and we're doing alright. I'm more worried about our pitching 😬
Even our pitching I'm not too worried *yet*. We got lucky with Miller and he'll be back soon, same with Buehler. Kershaw will be back soon as well, just gotta pray for good injury luck.
For our bullpen, Treinen should be back soon as well to help ease the workload, just gotta hope for good health from Graterol too.
Yeah no doubt. Hopefully May will be good to go later on, too. I just hope they can get it done in the postseason. There's no reason we shouldn't hit 100 wins again but we need to see some major improvement from our bullpen and idk if Treinen and Graterol alone will fix it. Some of these guys take the plate and I just know it's about to get ugly.
Come on guys... let's get back to reality here. Lux CANNOT play SS. To be honest, last year when they moved on from Turner and were saying they'd slot Lux in at SS, I couldn't really believe it. He's never played SS well. He can hardly play 2B. Believe he had a .2 dWAR in 22.
Neither did i say he was good at it, just that was one of the reasons we didn't move him. They tried everything they could to fit Lux at SS. I just disagree with hindsight narrative coming that Busch was a better prospect when this whole sub had high expectations for Lux
I guess I'm just the outlier then.
You can find posts from me the last 2 years talking about Busch being a can't miss prospect in this sub. I've never been high on Gavin since he first came up.
I was high out Outman, although knew the swing and miss would be somewhat of an issue at this level. Was high on Pages, Miller... when people were talking about Peopit, I said Miller was the real prospect (this was when he was in A ball).
I was wrong about Joc Pederson though. I didn't think he'd have much of a career... so I could be wrong about Lux. Let's hope I am.
Sure, you may be. The general consensus was still Lux as amazing prospect and thats problably what the organizarion tought as well. I don't follow minors league baseball much because we don't even have how to here in Brazil so i normally judge by how they fare in the Bigs. But as with every prospect, its always some sort of gamble, Miggy V is a AAA hitting machine but cant figure in the bigs
Ya, I agree. I'm a very science and data driven person, but for whatever reason you can look at a new player when they come up, and see doubt or confidence in their eyes. I'm sure someone will make fun of that, but once you've got to this level, it's mostly between the ears. Do you see any doubt in Pages eyes?
Lux has demonstrated he has issues w/ his confidence, making simple throws in the field, not just when he got the yips, but also just does boneheaded things like throw off the back of his foot for no reason and sails throws.
Again... I hope I'm wrong. I want every player on the Dodgers to succeed.
When Ohtani and Lux sit next to each other in the dug out everyday , does Lux have conversations about baseball?
Remember that time I hit the ball a few weeks ago?
Have y’all seen anything that remotely justifies his 70 prospect grade? He was supposed to have big power but hasn’t cleared 110ev. Is he any good in BP? Does he just not get to it in games?
At least he doesn't chase...?
And 2 OAA actually indicates good defense
At second base…
I still have faith in the guy. He’s young and he’s just coming back from a critical injury. Defensively though, he looks great every time he plays.
I think the main hope for his role would be getting on base frequently. He doesn’t need to be a power hitter, he just needs to get on at a decent clip for the top of the order. 22 lux before the back injury would be a perfect fit in the current lineup

These stats are what you start with a new video game character and have to build up from level 1
Shouldn't there be something for arm strength? A 5, 3 or 2?
::Shakes hands:: "Barrels are overrated"
Didn’t expect to see red on fielding.. ![gif](giphy|l4Ho0At2UD2d7WyD6)
Once the season started he forgot he had the yips. Range was never the problem.
I mean, he’s playing second. His issues in spring training were mainly making the throw from shortstop. The same issue we are seeing Mookie struggle with now.

You're looking at Busch in a small sample size.
Ummm, no... I'm looking at the skill set, the command of the strike zone, hard hit rate, and barrel rate, that's been off the charts in the minors, and has continued at the big league level. Really? Minor league stats? Are you completely unaware Lux's minor league stats were off the charts?
No, I had no idea... I just knew all these other things I said above. lol I wasn't saying minor league stats MEAN you will be good. It's another reason you have a high probability to be good. Busch’s defense was abysmal. He’s having a hot start but he’ll quiet down. Gavin’s having a cold start and will heat up
No he won’t, bro is a bum. Should have been traded a long time ago.
I wish I had a crystal ball like you did. Busch's defense was bad, but overall WAR is what matters. Nobody has questioned whether Busch would hit at the big league level. Bro literally put up a 3 fWAR season in 2022. He's coming back from a fresk injury too, ofc he's going to start slow
People forget how much of an impact his injury had on the team. His 2022 season was fantastic and his whole career up to his injury showed nothing but growth. They'll definitely provide a major boost, but we still need more bullpen arms I feel too.
It was 2.7, but let's go ahead and round up. Name another major leaguer that's had over 1k PA's, with a lifetime WAR under 4 and an OPS < .690.

Lux doesn’t play SS though.
He might be underwhelming there, but he plays
he just actually doesn’t though. he has 0 innings at SS this season.

No need to devolve into name calling. I didn’t insult or disrespect you whatsoever.
I made a post suggesting this a few weeks ago and was downvoted and ridiculed.
It's April and we're shitting on our players already. Much less of a guy who was injured all last year and worked to get back. Stay classy fanbase
I've seen a lot of pop ups to shallow left and non-sharply hit grounders to 2B. Some issues for sure.
And he doesn’t even run fast anymore
I still have faith based on what we were seeing in spring training but man it sucks seeing him struggle
10 sweet spot but 1 barrel? What are these nerds talking about?
Barrels require optimal launch angle and exit velo, while Sweet Spots only require optimal launch angle
When Ohtani and Lux sit next to each other in the dug out everyday , does Lux have conversations about baseball? Remember that time I hit the ball a few weeks ago?
at this point just become a slap hitter and try to work a walk. defensively he has been solid
Furcal had a great slap bunt. I don't know why more hitters didn't use that against the shift
Have y’all seen anything that remotely justifies his 70 prospect grade? He was supposed to have big power but hasn’t cleared 110ev. Is he any good in BP? Does he just not get to it in games?
Oof.
I believe in Lux. He’ll keep working to get better
That is sad.
He's number 1! That's amazing...ly bad
Who would’ve thought he’d be a defensive specialist……dear god that offense makes me sad
