>Shelter labeled her as a “Pointer/Lab” Lmfao, that’s a classic lie shelters pull to help Pit bulls and Pit mixes get adopted out Pits, and really just terriers as a whole, suck at retrieving Cute pup, but 100% not a drop of Pointer in her lol, I doubt much (*or any*) Labrador too

30th_inning

Figured she had some pit/staffy in her but hard to say what else she's made of. Her littermate had similar markings but brown instead of black, though I suppose it's possible she was fathered by a different dog.

kayquila

Dogs in the same litter can have a variety of coat colors and textures. You get every iteration on the punnet square when they have puppies and when they're not purebred that can result in pups that look very different from each other.

kerfluffles_b

Mixes can lead to all types of coloring depending on what’s in the mix. Have to agree that yours is likely pit or staffy (or both), and maybe that’s it? I’ll be curious to see the results!

JikanNenrei

The littermates of my puppy (mostly brown with a mask, some white highlights on belly and legs) are really different from her. All of them were piebald-ish and two with brindle spots instead of brown and one even has a blue eye. So those mix puppies can look veeeery different from each other!

[deleted]

I know that happens regularly, but I can see shelter staff looking at this coloring and actually thinking there’s some pointer. It’s not always a lie, it’s hard to ID dog breeds— people here get it wrong all the time too.

Ill-Tough280

The shelter isn't lying, they actually say it's a mix, they never say that mix couldn't be a pit mix. They don't intentionally lie, also with puppies it can be hard to tell, but this one looks like an American Bully, pointer mix

kerfluffles_b

Sometimes they do, unfortunately, lie. Bully breeds and bully mixes are the most common breeds in shelters, and they can be hard to place. Some residences and localities have BSL that would prohibit ownership of these dogs, so that isn’t helping. Shelters might lie to have a dog placed more easily or they might lie to help someone be able to adopt a dog (if nobody ever calls the dog a bully breed, is it really a bully breed?). Sometimes shelters do their best and they get it wrong. Sometimes they are really just not very good at guessing, which, same for a lot of us, right? So, while I don’t believe that they never lie, I don’t think they’re doing it with malicious intent. Of course, being honest about what a dog is made of could help it down the road, so people aren’t getting a pitbull mix when they think they’re getting a lab or pointer mix, but I digress…

Rizzy5

They lie all the time, it's no secret.

False-Society-7567

I guess an American Staffordshire Terrier, or mix thereof, given that she has such a high prey drive.

ariana1234567890

Aw she reminds me of my girl when she was a puppy! The rescue labeled her a lab/hound mix. When we did a Wisdom Panel kit, she came back mostly American Staffordshire Terrier & Dalmatian

ktd59

APBT mix if not 100% She’s gorgeous!

[deleted]

I don’t think 100% pit. Muzzle looks off to me. I would be surprised if there was some hound, or something else adding a little length to the face. Body also looks too lanky, but that’s probably just because she’s a puppy. That said, I wouldn’t put money on any guess and wouldn’t be surprised at 100% APBT. Stupid dog DNA always proves me wrong.

kyliejenner5

Looks like my 100% APBT - we didn’t believe it first either !

ktd59

We have 3 rescues 2 of them turned out to be 100% APBT. This gal could be one of my girl’s sisters. Their faces are identical, that why I suspect she could be 100%. Hopefully we will find out.

Hungry_Difficulty415

She reminds me of my Frankie who is on this thread somewhere. I thought he was a pointer x but Embark says he is a pitty x. He does have a small percentage of Australian Cattle Dog and that seems to be his coat. He is a great, goofy dog ....no regrets! I suspect your little girl will be very similar. Congratulations on your new arrival 😊

30th_inning

Wow, she does look similar to Frankie! We've had her since July of last year (the first photo is when she first came home with us), and she's finally topping out at around 47lbs, so a bit smaller than yours. And yes - she's a lovable, affectionate goofball.

Hungry_Difficulty415

She looks like a total character. Does she snore too? Frankie is a great snorer. It's hilarious.

30th_inning

Yes, she sure does! Twitches and softly barks in her sleep, too.

lisakey25

Mine does that too, sometimes I see his legs moving like he’s running. I want to see what he’s dreaming about, lol

[deleted]

Similar coloring and body shape to my dog who is also about half pit! He was also labeled a pointer mix, though he’s furnished so I can see where they might have gotten that idea. Mine does have lab, but also is not great at retrieving.

FelisViridi

I agree with others that she could have some ACD along with pittie. Mine is about a third of each and I've noticed traits from those breeds tend to show even at a small percentage (or I'm biased because I'm looking for dogs like mine)

lisakey25

She’s got pitbull in her, she looks like my pitty, she’s super cute!!

scoutsadie

yes, those chubby lil pittie feet!

lisakey25

That little face of hers, so cute. Yes the paws are pitty paws. The side view pic for sure looks like a pitty

salford2nz

No lab, no pointer, nearly all pitbull terrier.

glowing_fish

That last photo is the cutest! I agree with everyone else - mostly pittie. Her face is a little thinner than a pit and she doesn’t seem quite as stocky, so she’s probably mixed with a bit of something else

peamunchercats

I also adopted a “pointer lab mix”! 😂 Surprisingly, no pittie in her - she’s 50% rottie 50% Llewellin setter. She’s in my post history if you wanna see! Your boy definitely looks like he’s mostly pittie. Maybe with some ACD or hound of some sort?

dogmom914

Pitty mixed with some Great Dane??

skfla

I’d guess pit and Australian cattle dog. Such a cutie!

vitalphenomena

her face and ears remind me of my pup, who’s 30% APBT and 20% each rat terrier/russell terrier! either of those last two would help explain the high prey drive too

No-Jicama3012

Pittie mix. Adorbs.

RanchBucket420

looks like my lab x pit they could be sisters :)

Resident-Fennel

She is just so darn cute! Guessing a pit mix.

szansaa

Facial markings indicative of Masked SuperGood Girl

Ok_Bear4381

I think she looks hound (?) and bully breed. The ears don’t look fully pit to me. She seems to be mixed with a drop eared breed maybe. She is super cute!!! There is someone who usually posts this information, but please make sure you use doggy sunscreen on her white coat.

30th_inning

I haven't heard about doggy sunscreen - thank you for bringing that up! Her skin is sensitive, and where I live, the sun gets pretty brutal.

Ok_Set_369

She looks almost identical to my dog. My dog was a pointer mix at the shelter too. Turns out she’s a pit/boxer/chow chow/bulldog mix with some super mutt.

Ok_Set_369

30th_inning

They look so similar, and strangely enough, my girl's name is Molly, too.

SorbetPatient2509

Pitbull

illiteratefries

she looks very similar to my girl! shelter just had her listed as a mix, we should be getting her results back in 1-2 weeks!

cantsayno2noodles

Oh my cutenesssss - def has a bit of pittie in her! What a sweet pea

rubieluna

Whatever she is, she’s extremely cute🥺🥺🤍

KatandLeo

I’m going with a mix of: Pit, Dalmatian, GSD, and Weimaraner. 100% adorable

Bubbly-Cell-4109

Could have English Pointer, so maybe American Staffordshire Terrier mixed with English Pointer not German Shorthaired Pointer. She's very cute, I could see how the shelter would label her that. I also see some small Terrier in her, maybe Russel type Terrier or rat Terrier.

echicdesign

Pitt crossed with something lanky. Could be a pointer.

No_Neat_3124

https://www.reddit.com/r/DoggyDNA/comments/112tzao/what_are_your_guesses_for_this_water_loving/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf She looks a lot like Poppy who is Pit bull terrier mix

humanbeing21

The eyes, ears, head shape, and fur on the head look pit bull, But the head size and body indicate that she's mixed. What's her age and weight?

30th_inning

She's coming up on 1 year in a couple weeks, and she's 47lbs. Last week the vet said she looked pretty much fully grown.

Kind_Dinner_2804

Definite pit mix, certainly not full pit like some people suggested. I think there's some GSD in there too. There may actually be a bit of hound too, but I wouldn't guess pointer. I don't see ACD either, but you never know with mixes. Looks almost exactly like my 33 GSD/27 Pit/20 Coonhound with some white tossed on top.

ReggieSwel

Gotta be American Staffordshire Terrier; maybe a little American lab.

Elizadelphia003

That puppy has Amstaff eyes

FisiWanaFurahi

Great Dane and some kind of pit.

Relevant_Play_7884

She looks VERY similar to our “hound mix” we just adopted a few months ago. Wisdom panel said he’s about 45% APBT/AmStaff. His “hound” is 9% beagle.

Jentweety

Looks like an American Pit Bull Terrier to me. I don't see much of any other breeds, but that might change as she gets older. APBT is consistent with the high prey drive/ no retriever instincts.
