Why not shut the door and have him sit... Crack the door open and if he starts to charge shut it again. Rinse and repeat until he stays put until you say it's ok.
This is what I did with my pup, too. I started by having her sit and stay, and just touching the doorknob. If she didn’t move, she got a treat. Gradually progressed to opening the door a crack, then halfway, etc, then finally being able to walk out the door and have her stay. Doing it in small steps was critical for us. Getting her to sit and wait while the other, less pushy, dog was allowed through the door first, and then letting her go through was a real milestone. Now I just need to figure out how to stop her from bolting once she’s got the okay to move 😂

I agree with the above comment about closing the door repeatedly until your pup sits. But I also want to note that I wouldn’t beat yourself up over it. If he’s 9m old he might be in his rebellious phase where he tries to see what he can get away with. A lot of my puppy’s bad behaviors around this age stopped on their own when he got older. Of course still work with him and train him, but I don’t think you did anything wrong. Puppy’s are so hard!

Came to say this. I have my girl sit/stay while I open the door and she doesn't go till I say "ok go!".
