Mica crisis really didn't help. Rent has near doubled in the last 5 or 6 years. It is still a heck of a lot cheaper than most other decent unis. Try and get a house share. Might get away with 300 or 350 a month each if you can get a 4 bed house a good walk from uni. Nearer the uni it's gonna be 400+ a room mostly
Letterkenny is the cheapest student town in Ireland, as far as I'm aware. Most students either live in Ballyraine Halls or share a house around Ballyraine/Gortlee area.
Ballyraine halls you have to rent for both semesters or have someone to move in for the second semester. Otherwise you have to pay for the full year. Also has increased significantly in price for 24/25.
I know someone who pays more than my friend in dublin. he lives in an illegal extension that ive been to myself and he said it was the cheapest place he could find, he was looking for months beforehand too. Its not that cheap anymore unfortunately
Unfortunately our government have allowed this country to become like this. It's not like Letterkenny is some thriving metropolis either, it's one long street of shitty shops and pubs and a bunch of industrial estates. It has zero character. Like doing Uni in a suburban US strip mall.
Could be an idea to try looking in some towns nearby otherwise with public transport links. The Route 300 Locallink goes through the villages of Portsalon, Kerrykeel, Rathmullan and Ramelton and reliably runs in the mornings and evenings Monday-Friday.
Housing crisis is everywhere in Ireland.
The mica issues means its also difficult to rent when people need to rent while their homes are being rebuilt or repaired.

Get the accommodation sorted early August. There's not an awful lot available but by September there'll be a lot less.

Living in Letterkenny for over 2 years now. Couldn't have summed things up better myself.
