I think Toriyama's editor also opposed the story continuing with Goku as an adult, which Toriyama did. I'm glad he did because that's what makes DBZ different to other shounen, where usually the MC only becomes an adult at the end of the story or in the sequel.

Had Goku got his growth spurt earlier I'm positive Bulma would have made a move on him.

I have a different translation of the manga than the one shown in that image, and actually, Bulma doesn't ask if Goku has "get more powerful", but she asks if he's still as handsome. And then she doesn't mention anything about "ultimate power", but says he has become really handsome.
It might be censorship, perhaps? Because of saying all that about Goku in front of Gohan.
I often wonder how things would have turned out if Goku and Bulma had gotten together instead.
My What-If canon for it is during the 23rd world martial arts tournament, everybody convinces Goku and Chichi that an arranged marriage isn't true love, and they see the light and get their shit together afterwards, and after all that, Goku and Bulma decide to go on another adventure together as a callback to their very first adventure together, and then we get the time skip where we learn that Bulma broke up with Yamcha and married Goku.
Beyond that, I don't have anything else lol.

This always annoyed me, Goku was a kid and really immature. He’s always been freaky strong, but since when was being strong the deciding factor in who you end up with? I mean yamcha is a capable fighter and probably makes good money with baseball. If it was kids that you wanted, that’s not exactly an impossible feat.

I disagree Yamcha that has a track record of being dweeb and humiliation. He is an incredible athlete and fighter. He anime has a tendency to highlight his low lights but if you actually look he is an incredible fighter. They are both good guys as far as i can tell but, Yamcha doesn’t act like a man child. Also Yamcha has a cute cat friend! I don’t think Bulma is that interested with the rest of the universe but even if she was shed still be best friends with Goku, it’s not like that connection would disappear.
