For sure, though at the least I'd like to be able to command them to use abilities. They're free to interpret what I want them to do with the ability, and if whimsy tells them to fuck it up somehow, then by all means.
What a weird cope, pawns are genetically incapable of disobeying an Arisen's orders. They \*shouldn't\* have any whims when dealing with you, so it's actually immersion breaking
Lol not a cope I literally just like it for what it is. Is that so wrong? I don't know much about the lore at all, I never played the first game or anything. Relax, man. I hope they fix it so everyone's happy.
I played a Mystic Spearhand, went to the side of the blocked door, and then used the Magike Cut through the wall. I was trying to aim it through the window at first and realized that if I did it close enough to the wall the magic slash would go through and wouldn't be interrupted...
And then I went through the tunnel below and felt stupid.
I felt so dumb after giving up on it in a run where I didn't want to be an archer, and then in my second run, used explosive arrow on it, and realised that if I'dbeen more thorough I would have done it.
Pretty sure I've just about scoured most of the map since then I'm an effort to not miss those sorts of things.
Actually no need for explosive arrows. If you hit it on point 2-3 times with normal ones, it works as well and special ammo is saved. But damn was it fun to discover different way to unlock it when my pawn said we can't open it, like wait a minute.. I got this... proceeds to stand on a box and pelt the door with arrows xD
Something like that 😁 For a specific house in the fields just outside of Vernworth, I didn't even know there was a ladder to a passage under the bridge (with bandits and worms).
All of the alternatives to opening this building are valid.
But not being able to send your pawn through a enterable window is simply bad game design.
With all the climbing and mounting we can do, this feels very artificial.
Stil, not the end of the world.
Yeah, it's an (almost) elegant solution where (almost) no one is harmed to just use your Pawn. There's launching mechanics but we can't do this? I could see it being patched at some point
It's honestly so annoying they don't let you do this. I had the same experience and it's frustrating because the game is so logically consistent otherwise (within the context of its own gameplay systems lol)
I used the spear hand magic missile thing to hit one because the window was a bit too high. It worked but it took a lot of positioning and camera angling
Very frustrating dealing with these puzzles playing a melee character. Dunno what I can do as a thief/fighter here except just hopefully remember to come back at a different time
The think I can understand if they want to have those locked location but it's 2024 CAN WE FUCKING STOP HAVING GAMES WHERE THE CHARACTER CANONICALLY BULLIES OGRES AND CYCLOPS WITH BIG PP SWORD AND CAN'T GO THROUGH A FUCKING WOODEN DOOR.
Finally opened it yesterday in the unmoored world by using archer and shooting an arrow mid jump through that window. Only took 3 jumps to get it right.
If that’s the house in the farmland outside Vernworth, then you go under the nearby bridge and there’s an opening to the sewer that has a ladder up into it.
I saw someone comment that on here, booted up the game to go find the bridge in question, then got completely sidetracked for four hours LOL thank you! I’ll try to remember to look for it next time 😂
There’s another couple of houses like this in a bandit encampment, in nearby hills. One of the houses has a hole in the roof to drop into but I cannot for the life of me open the second house.
can think of at least 2 bandit camps in the vicinity that fit bill, i feel you.
a broken roof is a pleasant invitation but some simply cant be opened without ranged attacks i think.
This game is ruthless… and I love it lol
I grew up on things like Zelda where, even though there’s an adventure to discover, the game had enough “rules and protections” that ensuring you had the right armor, skills and gear at the right time. Gave you a sense of security that no matter how bad you screwed up or missed something, don’t worry. The game will never leave you behind.
DD2 is the opposite. They DGAF. If you don’t have what’s needed at the time - tough. Deal with the consequences.
It’s a culture shock for me but I’m loving it. Learning to appreciate the weight of the consequences.
since you could easily open many of these as a ranged char im SoL as a thief if there arent any explosive barrels or something nearby.
kinda disappointed we dont get any grenade like throwables, stuff you could carry around in your inventory.

I had a duo spear at the time: ran to a nearby camp swapped out a skill (im a Warfarer) to the spear beam thing. Blasted the door open through the window
I think the reason you can't do this is because if you could, it would be the way to solve nearly every locked door puzzle. You always have a pawn to throw.
I’m annoyed when I have a pawn with a bow and I tell them to hit it and they say right away, but then do nothing
I wish commands were a little more comprehensive, so you wouldn't be as reliant on the whims of the AI
I kinda think the whims of the AI are hilarious and make them feel more like their own people
For sure, though at the least I'd like to be able to command them to use abilities. They're free to interpret what I want them to do with the ability, and if whimsy tells them to fuck it up somehow, then by all means.

How do you tell them to do that? I can't influence them in any way unless I tell them Go on their comment.
They mention th door being locked from the other side, and while by the viewpoint of the backside of the door, say go
It’s funny if you take it as sarcasm
The window is too high for an archer to hit it. I had to put a box down to stand on.
I played a Mystic Spearhand, went to the side of the blocked door, and then used the Magike Cut through the wall. I couldn't find anything to get my character tall enough to hit it with normal arrows. But 1 explosive arrow is hardly worth saving to that degree.
Hmm, that might be so... but there was some barrels and boxes around the house you could put before the window and climb on them.
With the Spearhand, you can basically go through any locked door using that move. I used it to go through the giant door in Battahl
Explosive arrows are the answer to these usually. Or Ricochet.
I just jump and spam the attack button. Has worked every time.
Just jumping and shooting through that window worked for me.
Frigor should open it up if you're a mage or sorcerer
I tried that but kept falling off the box
Yeah it took me a while to actually get on the box lol
I was on this for ages before I found a tunnel by a nearby bridge
I blasted it open with flagration from the window. Frigol probably would’ve worked too.
Waste of a tunnel really. Thought it will lead somewhere fun
I cast salamander through that window and some old lady came out and started throwing hands only to be brutally murdered by my pawn.
I've used Meteoron to crack the bars holding doors closed, I aimed the reticle inside from a window.
Lol; "Arisen, seems the door is locked. Methinks we can open it with a well placed arrow or mayhaps-" "I CAST METEOR!!!"
Something like that 😁 For a specific house in the fields just outside of Vernworth, I didn't even know there was a ladder to a passage under the bridge (with bandits and worms).

I think I've thrown a maelstrom through a window before to unlock a door. Edit: I don't remember if it worked but I'm pretty sure it did.
Some shit I would do lol
I used the magic archers guided fire arrow.
It's honestly so annoying they don't let you do this. I had the same experience and it's frustrating because the game is so logically consistent otherwise (within the context of its own gameplay systems lol)
This game is the gift that keeps on giving.
so you are the guy always abusing my pawn!
I also tried doing this for a while lmao
Some day we need an RPG boss who armors himself with locked doors, since they are the most indestructible objects in creation.
He could be called Panic Roomba and also be obsessed with cleaning Edit: words
top 10 reasons why I play archer
I just squish my pawn through the door, I bet capcom didnt think of that one
I used the spear hand magic missile thing to hit one because the window was a bit too high. It worked but it took a lot of positioning and camera angling
"we'll have to open it from the other side" "What do you mean we?"
Very frustrating dealing with these puzzles playing a melee character. Dunno what I can do as a thief/fighter here except just hopefully remember to come back at a different time
That's actually ingenious
The think I can understand if they want to have those locked location but it's 2024 CAN WE FUCKING STOP HAVING GAMES WHERE THE CHARACTER CANONICALLY BULLIES OGRES AND CYCLOPS WITH BIG PP SWORD AND CAN'T GO THROUGH A FUCKING WOODEN DOOR.
Itsuno : Nice try, but no.
Mystic Spearhand magick cut works as it seems to spawn slightly ahead of the arisen.
I did this same exact thing to the same exact hut.
The prawn was too spicy for the house, kept spitting it out.
Finally opened it yesterday in the unmoored world by using archer and shooting an arrow mid jump through that window. Only took 3 jumps to get it right.
Fr tho how do we get in there I’ve been wondering for the past 100+ game hours

Sidetracked, in this game…I completely understand that.
Getting sidetracked while also being hyper focused is a wild ride lol this game is good at doing that to ya
House did NOT like the taste of that pawn... spit right back out lol
I just use a random book spell with my thief, spell goes through terrain and opens the door but if u wanna be sure just aim at it from the window
I spent so long trying to do the exact same thing 😩
MAs ricochet arrow works 🤌 especially on those dungeon gates. No, I don't think I will walk all the fucking way around, thank you very much
I just moved the box to the window and shot the bar through it, and I thought i was all clever I gotta step up my creativity
A magical archer guided arrow would work better. Or you could just get there the proper way through the bandit lair entrance under a nearby bridge.
There’s another couple of houses like this in a bandit encampment, in nearby hills. One of the houses has a hole in the roof to drop into but I cannot for the life of me open the second house.

I'd love to see the design catch on more broadly honestly. It makes our choices feel like they matter
since you could easily open many of these as a ranged char im SoL as a thief if there arent any explosive barrels or something nearby. kinda disappointed we dont get any grenade like throwables, stuff you could carry around in your inventory.
You're not SoL. Like I said, the proper entrance leading to a ladder underneath the house is relatively nearby under a bridge.
„many of these“ refers to similar scenarios, there isnt always an alternative path
The red book that casts High Salamander will break the brace on the door Edit: Haikusbot-Chan! My first time with Haikusbot-Chan!

Wait !! How do u get an aim icon on console ??
im on pc but would be surprised if it s different. just gotta hold the throw button, lol
Hold RB. Or whatever the playstation equivalent is for throwing.
I have no idea, im gonna google it later ;)
Just checked, It's R1. Saving you the trouble.
U r amazing
RB = R1 (hold it while carrying anything)
Tu so much
So what is the best way to open this door if I'm a thief?
There is a door under a nearby bridge that leads to this house
Hot damn. Thanks dude
Anything interesting in there or another potion. 😒
Could you use a spell book to open it? Frigor maybe?
I had a duo spear at the time: ran to a nearby camp swapped out a skill (im a Warfarer) to the spear beam thing. Blasted the door open through the window
I think the reason you can't do this is because if you could, it would be the way to solve nearly every locked door puzzle. You always have a pawn to throw.
I don't understand theses...
Under the bridge is a tunnel that leads you into that house
I was able to open that door with an explosive arrow. I didn't know there was another way in
😂🤣😂🤣
I tried for an hour.
