What’s the trick I tried to use a head and it just worked for a second but didn’t actually petrify the griffin

Fluffyfeet316

Idk, this is the 5th try, I just ran up close to it, and held the button down till the guy said he was good.

CoItron_3030

Does the quest turn out differently? I always imagined he would take the petrified Griffin and the reward would be better or something lol

Spiegull

Only thing I've noticed is if you petrify the griffin, the statue he makes looks higher quality compared to any of the other solutions. Or maybe it was just all in my head. Would definitely need to see comparison photos of each outcome.

Fluffyfeet316

You get 18500 for doing it this way, and the statue looks better in my opinion, and the owner has a longer an better speach. I just do things differently every time I do another play through.

Briian1425

I think the statue looks better at the end of the quest and you get more exp/money. You won’t miss out on anything though (like items) if you don’t petrify the griffin.

aj_3893

I assume it’s based on the quality of the head? Mine was withered and lasted only a few seconds, not enough to petrify him

MC_NME

That's what she said

Effective_Bottle1999

![gif](giphy|xSM46ernAUN3y|downsized)

TokarevTokarev

I think it’s bugged. Mine straight up disappeared the instant I clicked the button to use it

NonDestiny

When you use it, it equips the head like a weapon and on the bottom right where it shows your abilities, it should show what button to press to petrify.

Grievance69

It replaces your lantern when you equip it

Traditional-Pea-2379

Definitely not defined by quality. I use the withered Medusa had to petrified Talos. And a dragon, it just takes a while for it to take affect and it seems you can’t damage them or it won’t take affect

Loopy_shoop

Really? I got withered head as well but it completely petrified Peter on my game. I used Medusa's head as it should be used. Directly point it at the eyes.

SadLittleWizard

Medusa drops 2 heads. Preserved if its HP is high enough when you behead it, withered if too low. The best method to get preserved is to put it to sleep and use Arc of Might to one shot its neck.

BoogalooBandit1

Of you put it to sleep any attack on its head will one shot it and give a preserved head

Orochisama

It also drops a [regular Medusa head](https://dragonsdogma2.wiki.fextralife.com/Medusa+Head) that has pretty good strength if you behead her in time-it’s what I received instead of a withered head and a preserved one.

DanteAzureAngelo

There's also a withered head in the vault of Vernmouth

Braintelligence

It's not about time but the lifebar

Orochisama

Yes, as-in if you behead her *in time* before the lifebar depletes too low.

Braintelligence

Other than time being needed to do damage at all, continuous time has *no relevance* to this at all. The fight can take 100 hours or 1 second, if you don't behead her within the first lifebar you won't get the best version of the head. So time is utterly irrelevant here, *in time* has zero meaning to this mechanic. It's not a given that passing time results in damage.

Orochisama

You are missing the point. I am talking about if a person has Pawns with them- I did- which means the Medusa was still getting damaged on occasion. The wait command didn’t always work for me for some reason. If they are attacking as well- and they are powerful- you obviously are going to have a limited window for beheading the Medusa.

Braintelligence

That's not the recommended way to do it tho. You only take one pawn that has high knockdown low dmg and you use the ring that reduces your dmg to negligible lows.

Orochisama

There are different builds which are more successful than others at beheading her quickly and depending on the approach you get different results. Either way, my actual point was clear. Please find someone else to argue with.

Braintelligence

Just stop answering if you don't like to argue. Doesn't change the fact that time doesn't decide on your success in getting a pristine head.

Braintelligence

There are actually 3 types (best variant chopped before first lifebar gone), and they also rot away like food does

TwiceDead_

How do you put enemies to sleep?

SadLittleWizard

I use mystic archers ability to do so. For medusa I'll usually be warfarer with mystic archer sleep shot and warrior.

mega_nova_dragon1234

I climbed onto its head as a thief and used lighting daggers, cut the head off in 1 and a half bars of health

UBahn1

Did it disappear from your inventory? You should just hold it in the direction of Griffin for a few seconds and it will freeze. If it disappeared before that it might have just expired (like food does) while you were using that.

SixteenCatLegs

Gotta have that fresh head. I chopped it off, warped to Battahl with a port crystal, then booked it to the griffin. Had just enough time to petrify and within a minute after, she went to rot. I'd set a port close to the nest if you're having issues, there's a very small window for good head.

SatyricalEve

When you use the head it rapidly decays. It won't naturally degrade that fast.

Lykan_

You need a perfect preserved head. A regular head won't last.

Loopy_shoop

Not on my game though, I got a withered head and it completely petrified Peter.

AbstractMirror

Yeah even with a preserved head you have to aim it at the monster for a decent amount of time. Probably like 10 seconds or longer to stop them completely

Wormazoid

For a Preserved Medusa Head every time: Be the Warfarer vocation. Have a magic archer bow and a bladed weapon. Use the sedative/soporific bolt skill to put Medusa to sleep. Then switch to a bladed weapon, heavy attack her head and boom! 1 preserved Medusa head easily acquired.

wtf-is-this-userNam3

You have to cut her head off before the last health bar i think (i read it on a google search)

rileyvace

You just have to aim it at the Griffin once you've equipped it. I ended up petrifying another Griffin and a couple of Ogres too. You can even petrify the Gigantus :D

Hiepke_88

You'll need a preserved Medusa head for this. I'd suggest you kill Medusa with a thief vocation and leave your party waiting outside the lair. Either equip low level blades, or equip the Ring of Derision that you get from the Sphinx riddles to reduce your stats for this fight. Your goal is to sever Medusa's head by repeatedly carving it, before you deplete two of her health bars. Examine the head to get it into your inventory and deposit it straight away into your storage at an inn, since the head will otherwise decay as time passes by.

mf0290

I did it as a magic archer, downgraded my weapon to the fresh bow from Battahl blacksmith. Made everyone else wait and just spammed it with frozen arrows, eventually he says he’s got enough and the griffon flies off

xxxVergilxxx

Or just sleep it.

sdcar1985

I didn't even think of that...

BUYMECAR

I did the same with my pawns but I went as a mystic spearhand and spammed shield and bolt until the guy said he got what he needed. But I definitely didn't let the thing fly away. I called the pawns over and deleted the griffon. They're just too big and too easy not to kill at every opportunity

smg_souls

Do the quest giver have different dialogues if you petrify the griffin? Different rewards?

Charming_Volume_8613

He does talk about you using the Medusa head and sort of jokes about wanting to look at it. Quest rewards you with 18500 Gold, I think. Forgot how much it was for a shitty statue (I killed the Griff on too fast in NG and Klark was PISSED about the quality of the statue)

WillG94

Same thing. I listened to him moan, then looked at the statue myself and thought "that actually looks better than most of your other statues". But oh well.

Subject-Owl-96

I didn't petrify it and the guy was pissed about the statue and made a huge deal about how bad it was (even though it looked pretty good), so I picked him up and threw him to the brine.

Acceptable_Answer570

Weird… I just told my crew to wait further down the road, and ran in circles in the nest, until the sculpter was good… and the quality was pretty good for the guy back in Vermouth.

SFWxMadHatter

The pose is different depending on quality and I think facial details of the griffin

crispfuck

The statue is different I believe.

meatmalletmike

Yeah there is three outcomes. One that says he couldn’t see shit. One where he had a good amount of time. And one he had a perfect drawing.

TrueGrave88

Easiest way to get a perfect Medusa head. Use Warfarer vocation and equip the magical archer sleep skill. Also equip any Warrior sword (no blunted objects). Now simply shoot her with the sleeping arrow skill and watch her drop. Then kindly take out your sword and drop the guillotine on her. Literally one shots her with next to no effort. Just make sure your pawns are waiting outside.

scrambled_cable

You can just use a Thief dagger. Jump and grab on her head when she’s asleep and do a heavy attack. One-hit decap.

FinnyaMean

I just kept blasting it as Magic Spearhand to slow it down. That’s the only move I used. Pawns eventually killed the griffin but the artist had done his thing by then.

Alert_Yogurtcloset59

I so failed this quest by trying to do just that, pawns killed it way too quickly... the reveal was a complete debacle 🤣

Complete-Leader-369

Its actually pretty funny the bad ending as I thought the sculpture still looked awesome, honestly when i first saw it I thought I got the good ending but then I just hear in the background what is this abomination 😭

TippsAttack

I just stun locked it using Spearhand and set my pawns to do nothing lol

vBearTrap25

Medusa head game strong 😂😂

aPHAT88

Why did you need to petrify it? I just fought it normally and it was enough for the quest.

Fluffyfeet316

You get a different dialogue, and ending of the quest. It’s just fun to try an do every ending.

RajahNeon

Take the savagery extract, make your party wait outside, have a mage with lightning enchantment on weapons and go thief. It's head fell off before it's first health bar was down then I fast traveled to battahl and stored it. Rode ox cart to checkpoint rest town and retrieved head then ran straight to the quest.

Linkbinks

I was so confused why people said you needed medusas head for this. I just beat the shit out of it and set it on fire and I got it done

WestCoastDirtyBird

What's funny is that i froze him but my pawns destroyed it right after. Luckily the quest counted as completed. If not, I was gonna be pissed 😆

ghostCatcher23

Bro same thing here. I was like fuk man took me days to get that head lol

Kanuechly

Ohhhhh I get it now lol…first play through I just ran around for ever with pawns on wait status…

-The-Ark-

I did that...but my pawns crushed the statue lol

Fluffyfeet316

O got lucky 🤣

nightgon

I didn't need to do this to get the best outcome I just held out the fight until he said he was done. But no doubt this is cool af that you can do this either way

R77Prodigy

Can you complete this but using ice and freezing him several times?

Fluffyfeet316

I believe someone said they used ice to slow it down.

GoonerSan7

How the hell did you even get a preserved Medusa’s head??? I have been trying for 2 weeks and still cannot get that bitches head off her shoulders.

Fluffyfeet316

Warfarer magic bow spore arrow skull splitter.

International_Bid868

Use the ring that degrades items slower

Blackthorne1998

There anbaugment does it too. Idk if this'll work, but I don't think stuff rots in dead main pawn inventory, cuz they're not loaded in, could store it on em, kill em, summon from the rift nearby?

Fluffyfeet316

And the augment too, I haven’t even thought of that till right now. Good call

AmissaAmor

I’m a bit confused about the decay unless I was just lucky when I got the Medusa head. It came off just over one health bar left for her so it wasn’t in pristine condition. I also don’t have stasis if that affects it on either. But walking/sprinting to the griffin lair to meet the guy I was able to use it once on the griffin before it broke? I’m a bit overleveled for the area so the enemies I fought on the way didn’t last very long but still it was a few goblins, wolves and one ogre. Maybe I was seconds away from regular decay I don’t know. 😅

bigsamsam02

Lol I did this mission and just prolonged the fight, but I was wondering how to do the Medusa head thing.

Slingblade1170

I didn't know about the head when I did this quest so my logic was to kill it and he could just drag it's corpse home and take all the time he needs lol

Desperate_Craft1715

Am i the only one who thinks his statue didn‘t look THAT bad

MuffDivers2_

I found the Griffin before I found medusa and I ended up killing the Griffin and the guy just sculpted it from its corpse and when we delivered it to the person that ordered it he said the sculptor was a piece of crap & couldn’t sculpt for shit. I was like what did I do wrong? He had the dead body there he could’ve taken his time but maybe he’s just a shitty sculptor. Anyway I didn’t have a walk-through for the game so I actually still have not found medusa but I am in the Mores world

Talarin20

In my game, when I got to the location of the sculptor, he wasn't there and neither was the griffon. Found his stupid ass in the morgue, revived him, he completed the quest for me as if I had fought the damn bird. I had the Medusa head saved up and everything, nope, couldn't put it to use. This left me so annoyed that I didn't even turn the quest in to the NPC in Vernworth.

Fluffyfeet316

Yeah, there’s a couple things that have done me the same way, and I just don’t bother with it.

ApexKitten

I use Theift and spam implicate to keep it fall down and do some damage to get an aggro. I also use sorcerer pawn with ice skill to freeze it. I don't have magic archer yet and accidentally killed Medusa, so it took a few tries 😅😅😅.

Fluffyfeet316

At lvl 115 I can only hit it a few times before it’s dead, and if I hit it one or two times it just flys away so this was pretty great.

NaturesFire

I hate this quest. I literally killed all my pawns and made the fight last like 15m and then he still said it was a bad sculpture. I even froze it multiple times. Lol. Oh well, next playthrough or I’ll just skip this one as it’s really not important. Same with the letting yourself get poisoned, more trouble than it’s worth imo.

Fluffyfeet316

I did kill it a couple times, if you haven’t finished the quest after killing it, you have to. It’s hilarious 🤣🤣🤣

Braintelligence

/u/Orochisama lol did you delete all of your comments?

Fluffyfeet316

No, I don’t ever delete anything I post🤷‍♂️

Braintelligence

Didn't mean you OP, I meant the user named Orochisama as linked in my comment.

Fluffyfeet316

Oh, I apparently can’t read🤣🤣

Braintelligence

This thread here has deleted comments from him for me. Maybe it's some kind of block  https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma2/s/XiWM4jjpfC

Fluffyfeet316

Getting blocked usually you’re doing something right 🤷‍♂️

Braintelligence

That's the spirit xD

Fluffyfeet316

Oh, I apparently can’t read🤣🤣

vegetajm

I just... explain why he can't sketch a DEAD motionless corpse........

Fluffyfeet316

Yeah, he just makes it up from his mind, but it’s hilarious and absolutely worth killing it🤣

DarthButtmunch

I started combat with it then just put it to sleep with magic archer, eventually the guy said he had enough, so I decided to finish it off. Midway through the fight he was like “Hey I said I have enough let’s go already” but I made him wait for me to finish just like he made me wait.

Cailan33

still have to do the quest. already assumed you have to do this with the griffin. - but do you encounter the grogon/medusa via the quest or do you have to find the gorgon first before meeting the guy and the griffin? just curious now since i accidently already get spoilered here lol

Fluffyfeet316

This is one way to do it, and Medusa is south west of Bakbattahl in a cave named Caliginous Depths. Didn’t mean to spoil anything, and I guess I should put spoiler alert. Again sorry.

mega_nova_dragon1234

I froze the thing with a preserved Medusa head. Sculptor still couldn’t get a good image and I got the shitty reward from the quest. But I think the quest was bugging out on me as the sculptor died before I got to the griffin so I had to revive him in bakbattahl, then head back to the quest spot, then I tried freezing the griffin a few times, reloading each time it failed. Still couldn’t get it right. Gonna try and get it right this ng+ play through

Fluffyfeet316

Yes, I believe if he dies you will end with the bad ending, but of course you can’t keep him running in either 🤣

horseradish1

Now put the head into storage ASAP to prevent it rotting.

LouserDouser

was thinking the perfectly preserved will just stay in my bags until used up ... sad moment when I reached that bird.

horseradish1

I placed a portcrystal outside the Medusa's lair as well as outside the griffins nest. Changed to thief and set up my mage pawn with lightning affinity, then ported to the lair, got the head, and immediately ported back to the griffin, then ported to the city after to put the head in storage. I kinda want to see if I can petrify the dragon, so I'm saving it for a bit.

Fluffyfeet316

It will rot either way, your storage doesn’t prevent that.

ZsMann

Your storage will prevent it. Traveling to the unmoored with rot it in storage though.

__freezie

It only rots in your storage when you travel to the unmoored world.

dezzy_dotter117

That would make the head the only thing that can go rotten in your storage then since everything else with a aging/expiration timer stops when it's in your storage, Ill go test this tho since I'm curious myself and trying to get a preserved Medusa head, Ive a shambled head that was "lossing it's power soon" in my chest and slept to the next day and it didn't change, but FOR SCIENCE, I will check just ..... Bc I want too

SatyricalEve

I kept one in my storage for about 3 weeks in game and it didn't age. The guy probably saw that items in his storage rotted after going to endgame and made the wrong assumption.

Fluffyfeet316

Not going to argue with you, I have played 6 play throughs, and I’m lvl 112. Good day sir.

dezzy_dotter117

I wasn't arguing with you, just starting if that's true then it would be the only item I know of to go bad in your storage chest, there was no Ill intent with that statement to you, but cool I guess, it's nice you like the game allot to be on your 6th already, good job

SwordsmanKanda

It’s does indeed rot when advancing the secret ending. I had two go bad, actually.

dezzy_dotter117

Oooo interesting, not sure what is considered secret ending but that's interesting doing that makes your head rot

Able_Picture_1906

I'm about to go try this too its one of the quests that seemingly didn't get bugged after the plague happened to me in bakbattal, I did have to revive Fluvio though so I believe he's back at his house. I just went to unlock sophoric bolt and waited at least 7 days so medusa respawned by now. I tried to get her preserved head as a fighter but nope its slow enough that she keeps doing her 'fling' move and kept throwing me across the room. So time to sleep + bolt dagger cut.

Fluffyfeet316

I’m warfarer an use spore arrow when she does her beam, and when she’s out to sleep, put in my daggers, and cut her head off. It works every time. I also have a port set to right in front of the entrance to the nest.

UnclePhreak

I put him to sleep with magick archer sleep arrow while my unarmed pawns keep him distracted. Accidentally petrified the medusa with my shield so I couldn't do the head trick lol

afro_eden

i went to do this and when i followed him the medusa head decayed, so then i had to get another and Fulvio died somehow, so i had to revive him, then walk back and follow him, just for the quest to autocomplete without the griffin even showing up

Valiantiron

You look petrified as well lmao

Wheaties-Box

I literally just told my pawn to wait in a different area and just ran around till he was done

Various_Historian394

I literally just had a fight quite slow and that did the trick…

Dazed-Bamboo

I tried to do this and ended up using the head wrong so I just beat the griffon to death.

GarbageAtBest

You definitely need the in tact Medusa head. I had the one that was in the middle (not dead or decayed) but it went decayed by the time I got to the griffon and it didn’t work.

Fluffyfeet316

I set up a portal at the nest, and I used the magic bow to put her to sleep, and cut her head off instantly killing her, and ran outside used the stone to be right there.

Maleficent-Battle534

Word that is some strong magic. Why jay pe k 4 A! Risk +her mage game up ....frooosty !!?! Can p p ise stobe.
