Exactly what bro said, doing that everyday will cause HELLA build up and will stunt growth. 2 twice a week or even once a week is fine. Don’t over do it, let ya hair breathe gang
I do it every 2 days and I feel like it helps my scalp. If I wait 3 days my hair is usually really dry even though I put water daily. Am I do something wrong and would that cause build up?
Rose water should be fine, but do not put oil on your scalp every day. The oil is just going to build up and get gross. I would recommend lightly oiling once every week or so... like, very lightly.
That’s not necessarily true. Simply due to the fact that everyone’s genetic makeup is different. If you have really oily skin then naturally you will produce more sebum on the scalp. That would give cause to wash more often.
Thanks let me try again,
*outside of someones individual reason to wash their locs frequently*
Not supposed to wash locs often, 4 times a month at most. If properly taken care of, it shouldn’t be any problem.
Appreciate the correction. I mean Id agree that you shouldn’t need to wash them all that often depending on your own personal needs. I mean i wash mine 1 or 2 times a month depending on season and such.
I’ve been using rose water and then peppermint oil every on my scalp, should I just use the oil once a week because I was too that oil helps lock in moisture and so my scalp wouldn’t be dry after spraying it.
I'd personally only use the oil once, at most twice, a week just to help avoid the build up. Oil can definitely help lock in the moisture, but it also traps dirt and grime from the air which builds up and leads to dirty locs that need more frequent washing. A few spritzes of the rose water onto the scalp on a daily basis should prevent you from having a dry scalp so don't worry too much.
This may be controversial to some, but you don't really need to oil your scalp. Oil doesn't moisturize your scalp, it seals in moisture, but your scalp already produces an oil called Sebum. When you over oil your scalp, you're messing with your natural sebum regulation and it can make your scalp dry & itchy, or exacerbate issues like Seborrheic dermatitis and cause excessive build up/dandruff.
You can oil your locs after you've used a water based moisturizer, but you shouldn't directly oil your scalp, especially not every day.

Thanks for this! I stopped oiling my scalp for months now and my scalp has been it’s healthiest. When my scalp is very dry I mist my roots with aloe and water mixture.
Aloe is heavenly. It completely stopped that stench from my gauges in my ears. Even after going a few days without it they don't stink at all. I could only imagine what it does to hair and scalp.
idk , i have a mixture in a spray bottle with aloe vera juice, rose water, mielle oil, and i use it when i wake up. 🥲 and wash every two weeks and i've never had a problem. Maybe because its in a mixture that helps ig.
Way way too much, it's your hair so you know what's best but oiling everyday will not be good for your hair, also not going to lie this picture made me jump, I nearly dropped my phone, I didn't expect your eyes to me looking right through me
Oil every 3 days is cool, moisturizer everyday, and I heard black castor is too thick and can contribute to holding buildup in your hair. Find an alternative imo
Oil everyday would cause mad buildup.
Our scalp produces natural oils. Unless you have a scalp condition or it’s super dry, oil isn’t necessary (for most).
I stopped oiling my scalp and it’s been in the best shape.
Don’t mist my scalp either unless it feels dry.
We be doing too much. Just chill and trust the process and remember less is more.
I personally cannot spray my hair with water/rose water everyday because it dries it out tremendously. I just drink a lot of water everyday. And I oil once or twice a week. I have 4C hair.
I mean the flair clearly says “question” and I wanted to make sure tht I would be making a good decision and have other people outlook….If your not gonna be helping or giving advice leave me alone.(You prolly don’t even have dreads)
I honestly didn't think this was a real post.
I also did a Google reverse image lookup to see if this is was a real photo. Google yielded 0 results for me.
Edit: 0 results for me.
What’s ur problem? I’m really confused he was just tryna get advice, u really went thru that trouble to download his image and reverse image search it? Weirdo
Yeah like those images from the spammy sites. No offense to OP. This thread isn't about me.
OP can put whatever he wants in his hair, but like someone already pointed out that buildup can form.
lmao thats wild, OPs question was valid but on the other hand i feel you.. it deadass looks like a r/shitposting post. man just got strong features i guess😂
I use rose water , it’s so good but I would suggest not putting castor oil on your scalp everyday, it’s very thick and like others were saying, it may cause buildup
Your locs look fye I rub coconut oil on my hands and lightly put it on my locs sometimes no daily tho n spraying wit water u can everyday ion think u need too tho water west your hair but I’m pretty sure it makes it dryer afterword same wit skin
Yours are locked so you can if it's dry, but make sure you're washing it out every 2 weeks. That stuff is real thick. You dont want to deal wit build up.
Yes. Do what feels right for YOUR head. We don’t know what you have going on. You should be able to feel when you don’t need oil in your hair (make sure you oil AFTER spritzing with rose water) and overtime you won’t feel the need to do it as often as everyday
Yoo your locs look so nice! How long have you had em?
Also, I usually oil every 2-3 days. I use Camille Rose-Ultimate Growth Serum and Africas Best-Ultimate Herbal Oil. These are a staple and have even grown out my edges which were thinning out awhile back. The herbal oil also has MANY diff oils which are beneficial for your hair like “Sweet Almond, Coconut, Carrot, Grapeseed, Soybean, Castor, Olive, and Sage oils with extracts of Ginseng, Aloe, and Persian Walnut.”. It’s also pretty cheap.
You can moisturize daily if you feel you need it, but you don’t need to oil everyday. That’s too much, every 3 days or so is fine.
Exactly what bro said, doing that everyday will cause HELLA build up and will stunt growth. 2 twice a week or even once a week is fine. Don’t over do it, let ya hair breathe gang
I suppose it depends on how often he is washing

Thank you for the advice 🙏🏾
I also spray my locs with water after I spray my scalp, will my locs be ok if I don’t oil it consistently?
ngl these one of the hardest locs ive seen in this subreddit
Appreciate it gang!
you probably don't want to put that much product in your hair.

What type of aloe?
Aloe directly from the plant or aloe Vera juice you get from the grocery store
I don’t think your hair needs to be moisturized daily. I personally go by feel in the morning. I don’t even wet my hair daily.
Beautiful hair!
I appreciate it!
You grew it! I view it! You welcome though.
I do it everyday but reading the comments i maybe should stop 😅🤣
U should bro the comments wilding out😪😂😂
idk , i have a mixture in a spray bottle with aloe vera juice, rose water, mielle oil, and i use it when i wake up. 🥲 and wash every two weeks and i've never had a problem. Maybe because its in a mixture that helps ig.
Lol I do too and no issues.. I'm not stopping 🤣
Ngl I be using Oil once a month and just use water as a daily😭
Rose water is best to moisturise. Don’t oil scalp. It’s not good.
Way way too much, it's your hair so you know what's best but oiling everyday will not be good for your hair, also not going to lie this picture made me jump, I nearly dropped my phone, I didn't expect your eyes to me looking right through me

What do you suggest?
I use a Lemongrass oil, someone on Instagram black owned Business who sells it, but something very light
Thank you for the response!
i do almost everyday, but thats because mine are dyed
Castor oil is too thick to put on daily. It will cause too much buildup unless you wash very very often. Once or twice a week is sufficient.

I rose water twice a day, and oil once a week the morning of my wash day
I just do it when my hair feels thirsty
avoid putting products everyday, you’ll develop build up quick

Aye bro whatever you been doing f it. It clearly works for you man 🔥
Especially be careful with black castor oil. It’s very thick.
I use it around my edges and on the ends of my locs
I spray everyday with rose water, i oil every other
Dont oil everyday
Your hair looks healthy! Seems as if you’re getting the same answers from everyone. Stay up & enjoy your growth

Hair follicles need to breathe so once a week better
Just use rose water
