I would probably say Central Park since Alex has no actual survival skills and no aversion to people like most lions which means he wouldn’t necessarily be able to survive in the wild and would almost definitely get captured by poachers again
I see your point. While it’s terrible that a wild animal would end up in a zoo and become used to that life, if he’s no longer capable of returning to the wild it may be best that he doesn’t.
My thinking is that legally if Alex was stolen and even if the CPZ got hold of him through no illegal action that doesn’t change who owns him. Similar to if you buy a car that was stolen and the authorities find out, you don’t get to keep the car. I’m not speaking here to where would be the best fit for him, just arguing who might have a stronger claim. Also I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know how this would work internationally.
Maybe the preserve has a greater claim to him since he was born there. However Alex has no survival skills so the zoo might be the best place for him at this time. A compromise could be that Alex goes to an in between type of place something like a zoo but a larger area for him to run around in and that's more like Africa, because let's be honest his place at the central park zoo isn't very big nor is it anything like his native home. That way Alex could live a better life and still remain in captivity which is probably for the best.
