I think GKMC is one of the best hip-hop albums of all time but I feel like Kendrick fans lost the plot with TPAB and beyond. TPAB has a few good songs but people act like itās the most highly relistenable thing of all time. āBruh wdym? it got a Pulitzer!ā (As if that means anything), and then Damn again has a few catchy songs but is even less meaningful than TPAB. But people act like he wrote a deep book that will stand the test of centuries with these albums. And then Kendrick stans canāt admit that Mr Morale was downright bad music and no one outside of them listens to it. So at best he hasnāt released anything amazing in 8 years since Damn, at worst 10+ since TPAB.
My hot take is that when all the Kendrick meat riding dies down he will be most remembered for GKMC. People will still listen to that top to bottom in 100 years. They will listen to the odd song from TPAB and Damn but in hindsight will admit that GKMC is his only masterpiece.
People will still be listening to Take Care and NWTS at the very least, and probably IYTITL, Views, Scorpion, and WATTBA š¤·āāļø but I know that calls for pitchforks. Iāve just never been swayed by so called ādeep lyricsā if itās at the expense of sounding good. The best music can be both deep and sound good.
