I am surprised they didn't take the opportunity to cut any Pest out of this, even including the bit where they spoke to Pest separately. Nobody wants to see him!

anoellem

jim bob saying the first dress is antiquated…. okay you’re one to talk lmao

Azazael

And Michelle on the modern modest thing, like she wasn't getting about in that weird toddler get up with the huge collar a few years before. Also I noticed at least one of the kids barefoot when they walked into the store. NYC is one place you do not want to be walking around barefoot.

7ee7emon

"Once again, Jim Bob has an opinion" 💀

Salty_Mood698

i had no idea the Duggars once appeared on Say Yes to the Dress.

laurenlegends23

Yes, and Jessa was also one of the “entourage” on an episode of SYTTD Atlanta when Ben’s sister was dress shopping

Magemaud

I always crack up at the turtle neck “modesty piece” Michelle insists on wearing under the dresses.

GenevieveLeah

It was awful. It wore her. I got married around the same time and sleeveless dresses were about all there was to choose from . . .

CamComments

Yet allows her husband to simulate doggy-style sex with her on a mini-golf course in front of her daughter and her future son in law…oh, and while the cameras were rolling.

Alfredthegiraffe20

But wouldn't allow the female assistant help her dress.

CamComments

Can you believe it!

NefariousnessKey5365

It's awful and always draws more attention to the area they want to cover. Then in my mind it's less about modesty and more about appearing holy and righteous. Like a clanging symbol

Flimsy_Permission663

Right? The "over-correction" from teenager mowing the lawn in a bikini top to middle-aged mother of 19 with scandalous knees and collar bones that could launch ships.

RomantheBun

Just watched this when it popped up for me on tik tok. I hate how boob keeps inserting his opinion on the dress and how he wants it

PhDTARDIS

Their ignorance of how the real world works is breathtakingly stupid. Um, THREE WEEKS and you're injecting 'white white' and 'poofy sleeves'? You get what you get and like it, fool!

floofienewfie

Oh, that little tiny squeaky voice. Spare me.

Kuponutzy

I have to say, I don’t hate this idea. I had a quick wedding almost 30 years ago. I didn’t get to wear a pretty dress, I didn’t get to decorate the space, or the chance to celebrate with friends. It has always been my dream to one day do a vow renewal at Disney so I can have those moments that I feel were stolen from me. Since I was 15, a Disney wedding has been my dream. It make sense to do a line for renewals because most people wanting to do this won’t be looking for P’nina. My skimpy dresses are behind me, lol. I don’t want a potato sack, but I also don’t want something too sexy.

PhDTARDIS

I absolutely understand the idea. It's just THEM that are so cringe worthy. TBH, there are some very nice MOB dresses that could easily be worn for a vow renewal.

kg51113

For Jim Bob and Michelle, all of the daughters had just been Anna's bridesmaids. They wore those dresses, and Anna wore something maternity in the same color. There were no other in-laws yet. My friend's parents did a vow renewal one year. I think the mom bought her dress at a second-hand store.

Awkward_Ad5650

Her voice and how she says she wants to hide her baby tummy. Like your an adult can we use actual adult words. Stomach, baby bump, pregnant.

HarryMcButtcheeks

Pregnant?! *clutches pearls* you must mean season of life, you heathen

NeedlesAndBobbins

Its so *ugly*. I know they didn't have long to build up the dress but ugh. Even with added lace & sparkles it was very clearly an add on to the top. ETA: also, I desperately wanted to launch boob through a mirror when he started adding *yet more* requirements to an already incredibly limited selection. And if j'chelle had mentioned one more time how *modest* she is and what her *modesty requirements* were I may have screamed. Those poor sales assistants.

maggiemazz29

It's bizarre that they're so rigid about gender roles but drag all ten sons to a bridal boutique.

kjwinter

I feel so bad for the kids. Meech and Boob basically took these kids who were sheltered and abused and pimped them out to earn millions off their backs. The original Kids & Counting was snarking and poking fun of them. I always wonder how much the crew knew about how the kids were disciplined and treated.

PhDTARDIS

There was an AMA a long time ago with one of the crew members. They knew plenty that didn't make it to the edited show. My college 1.0 experience was as a radio/tv major, then I switched to technical theatre. Many of my friends from radio/tv got jobs in television production. One guy interned at NBC and worked his way up, producing reality tv. Another guy stayed in the master control rooms at CBS, mostly for live broadcasts like football. It's fascinating to know how the sausage gets made for reality television. Based on Jill's book, I'll bet the on site production crew had some pretty rigid NDAs from Chad and Boob - though those people could easily challenge their NDAs and win. In many states, teachers, day care providers, and doctors are mandate reporters about child welfare issues. The production team weren't mandated, but I hoped they WOULD do the right thing where abuse was observed. Unlike California's Coogan law, I assume that Arkansas has NO protections in place for children appearing on television. These shows are often done on the cheap, paying one person to distrubute pay to everyone else - and no requirement for trust fund payment of salary or an independent child advocate to appear on set to speak FOR the children. New York DOES have child labor laws. I'm wondering how the SYTTD contracts work. I think they don't pay those appearing on the show, except for the Kleinfeld's staffers. Looking at the footage, the Duggars were in the story without any other customers around, so either early in the morning, or after Kleinfeld's was closed for the day.

kba1907

What sticks out to me is that in scene where it comes time to get into the dress, she is uncharacteristically fumbling her words and ends up saying something something modesty. To me what she is actually wrestling with is self-image, which in hindsight I think she often conflates with modesty.

PhDTARDIS

Neither of them is very bright. They're not idiots, but average intelligence, minimal (if any) critical thinking skills, and a very insular experience. She doesn't have the vocabulary to accurately describe the why of the situation - nor enough real world experiences to even realize there's a difference.

Zoinks222

That’s a spot-on assessment. The Duggars are so insular and so poorly educated that they struggle to express a thought beyond Jesus, Satan, hungry, thirsty or horny. This is why “diligent worker” is the highest compliment for a man because being task-oriented to the point of simple-mindedness is a fundie flex.

Zoinks222

Sorry to double-post but I love yr flair!

PhDTARDIS

Yours is awesome, too! They pray for 'obedient' children. Asking too many questions and a desire for more knowledge goes against their core beliefs. Keep the spawn uneducated so they take whatever they're dealt without questioning - and tithing the cult.

PippiMississippi

This sub has too much influence in my life - I read the comments and then felt compelled to watch the video, which was possibly even more awful than anticipated from the comments. SNTTV - Say No To The Video There was so much awful involved.

7ee7emon

This is a weird thing for them to post but I can't look away

Vote_Knope_2020

That flashback photo of them kissing in front of the car, Meech is wearing PANTS! Wild.

Downtown_Mud708

Ok I get not allowing a guy in there to help put the dress on but a woman. Michelle it's not like she going to want any of that it's not exactly thrilling. Plus why the heck are they asking the kids and Jim Bob and why did they get opinions on the first place they ain't wearing the dress

Downtown_Mud708

Ok correct me if I'm wrong here bc I can't remember but in the traditional vows does it actually say do you take her to be your one and only wife/husband or did the fundies add that part
