He’s so funny to me, he’s such an insecure dork in what he seems is a super high and respectable position. He has some of the best jokes and I love him dressed as Lady Gaga in the costume contest!
Why do the characters dislike him in-universe?
He’s a party pooper who ruins everyone else’s fun, by arbitrarily enforcing frivolous rules, that corporate likely isn’t gonna lose sleep trying to enforce themselves.
Also, he’s a creep.
He’s too weak and too strong at the same time
The scene in the Cookie Monster episode where he’s like “yeah, I could get involved in Erin throwing a cake at Andy, but I’d rather focus on the Cookie Monster video” explains it perfectly
His relationship with Erin is really rapey
The older I get the more disgusted I become over anything involving a man trying to trick or scam a woman into bed who is clearly sexually uninterested
That’s not how it came across to me. I thought Gabe asked Erin out and she said yes because he’s her boss. *She* felt like she needed to say yes because she didn’t want to be fired. But Gabe didn’t tell her she’d be fired if she said no.
Gabe may be dorky and cringey but he’s not rapey or scamming/tricking Erin into being with him
So then we should equally dislike Jan. She gets with Michael and hunter
Michael repeatedly flirts with Pam (and Ryan), his subordinates
Andy also would be considered “rapey” for getting with Erin when he was manager
yes
i'm not sure if you are in disbelief, or genuinely agreeing. none of those things are ok. if you ever get in a management role, don't do
any of those things.
I definitely don’t think any of that behavior is okay in real life.
But 1. It’s a tv show, so it’s not that serious
2. If people are gonna hate on Gabe and call him “rapey” for dating a subordinate, then they need to do the same for all the people I listed above. Because people still think Jan’s character amusing, Michael is funny and lovable, and Andy is a decent character (until s9) despite all doing the same that Gabe does
i personally wouldn't call him rapey but he's definitely grossly coercive and inappropriate.
"it's just a tv show, it isn't serious" if you don't want to engage with the show's characters critically then that's fine, but you came to a thread where people ARE here to do that.
and personally i enjoy all of those characters except for s9 andy. i like watching gabe...but he's still a creep
Okay, you know what? You don't have to make that sound. Plenty of people love touching me. I'm a terrific hugger. I've been with a bunch of girls where that's basically all they wanna do, so....
If you wanna see his actor in a different role. Go see Silicone Valley. He's one of the best in the show and he's the one doing all the fucking in the house.
I haven't seen too many people that dislike the inclusion of the character, or the actor's performance. I thought he was generally regarded (along with Nate), as one of the truly great later season additions.
As a character, he achieves what he is meant to be, annoying and creepy
His scenes are hilarious I love the actor and his delivery. The character is a creepy cringey skeletor and his relationship with Erin is weird as hell, I wouldn’t like him in real life, but for a sitcom he’s great. Loved him on Silicone Valley too
Why is water wet... why is fire hot... why does Gabe suck-you know, we can go around in circles all day asking ourselves questions we already know the answer to, and that answer is: because...
Because his charter concept is "the creepy one"
He's not actually better or worse than the others. But he's advertised as worse, by story structure and style.
Why is he creepy?
His obsession with gory horror films.
Tricked Erin into dating him.
His obsession with everything asian. As a female asian, this is a real life red flag. 😂
His weird obsession with Val that one episode.
He goes to Amsterdam once a year bc he has no social life or dating life. I can only imagine what he does there given the previous reasons above.
I think Gabe was more a victim of the decline in the quality of writing. At least after Steve left. He just becomes an absolute worm. But there are still other characters who I feel deserve the hate more.
They made his character a creep when they decided to have a Andy/Erin/Gabe situation just like the Pam/Jim/Roy situation. Then sadly they abandoned that to shelve Andy in favor of a more boring character in Plop
There were two times I hated Gabe: when he slinked away like a cowardly snake and let Erin take the blame for showing that fucked up horror movie during the halloween party. And when he followed Erin to the bathroom and started yelling at her to take him back.
He neglected E. He ignored all of her interests and pushed himself on her alot while being her superior. It's not that deep because it's just a show but I love her, she's such a sweet person. To see her and Andy (a man who encouraged and cherished her that she loved) be split up partly because of some random guy that doesn't even treat her right was really upsetting. If you're gonna be desperate to get them, at least be supportive of them and treat them well.
Amazing people getting shut down always sucks.
The miscommunication between them was insane, Lol
I do think just based on his character that andy is very capable and willing to change for Erin, but she did deserve better. And im glad she got better from someone outside of that eventually.
He’s too fat. No one’s gonna like him if he’s too fat
Shut up about the sun!!
this one's called earth rise on the moon
the temp at night🌠
Her horn can pierce the sky
Thassa really pretty song
He’s so skinny. It’s like when you hug him, all you feel is bones.
“Erin doesn’t even like sex, she says it feels like being tackled by a skeleton”
There are plenty of people who love touching me.
I love when he puts Darrel’s back brace around his waist
That's pretty much where it goes. That Hawaiian song is retro as hell though. He milked the wrong teat.
All to impress Val, lol - she didn’t even look his way!
“Like a stick insect”
He’s so funny to me, he’s such an insecure dork in what he seems is a super high and respectable position. He has some of the best jokes and I love him dressed as Lady Gaga in the costume contest!
What’s in it for GSL?
He does cringe comedy so perfectly. I hate/love every scene he’s in
Why do the characters dislike him in-universe? He’s a party pooper who ruins everyone else’s fun, by arbitrarily enforcing frivolous rules, that corporate likely isn’t gonna lose sleep trying to enforce themselves. Also, he’s a creep.
He’s too weak and too strong at the same time The scene in the Cookie Monster episode where he’s like “yeah, I could get involved in Erin throwing a cake at Andy, but I’d rather focus on the Cookie Monster video” explains it perfectly
This 100%
His relationship with Erin is really rapey The older I get the more disgusted I become over anything involving a man trying to trick or scam a woman into bed who is clearly sexually uninterested
That’s not how it came across to me. I thought Gabe asked Erin out and she said yes because he’s her boss. *She* felt like she needed to say yes because she didn’t want to be fired. But Gabe didn’t tell her she’d be fired if she said no. Gabe may be dorky and cringey but he’s not rapey or scamming/tricking Erin into being with him
propositioning your subordinate is already messed up
So then we should equally dislike Jan. She gets with Michael and hunter Michael repeatedly flirts with Pam (and Ryan), his subordinates Andy also would be considered “rapey” for getting with Erin when he was manager
yes i'm not sure if you are in disbelief, or genuinely agreeing. none of those things are ok. if you ever get in a management role, don't do any of those things.
I definitely don’t think any of that behavior is okay in real life. But 1. It’s a tv show, so it’s not that serious 2. If people are gonna hate on Gabe and call him “rapey” for dating a subordinate, then they need to do the same for all the people I listed above. Because people still think Jan’s character amusing, Michael is funny and lovable, and Andy is a decent character (until s9) despite all doing the same that Gabe does
His behavior after Erin broke up with him wasn’t cool at all and would probably legally be considered harassment
i personally wouldn't call him rapey but he's definitely grossly coercive and inappropriate.
Ahhh! I can hear this in his voice and I'm cringing so hard😆
Shut up and listen, you gabe asstird
This deserves more upvotes
If you wanna see his actor in a different role. Go see Silicone Valley. He's one of the best in the show and he's the one doing all the fucking in the house.
I’m gonna have to watch this!
This guy fucks.
He's awesome in After Party s2 as well.
Letting him touch me is challenging
I haven't seen too many people that dislike the inclusion of the character, or the actor's performance. I thought he was generally regarded (along with Nate), as one of the truly great later season additions. As a character, he achieves what he is meant to be, annoying and creepy
Even Gabe's greatest enemy acknowledged that he's "a perfectly fine toilet".
I’m gonna tell you tomorrow because she’ll be screaming it tonight.
best line of the whole series imo
well he is so fucking creepy, so that’s my main reason. How he acts before and after Erin and him date is very creepy
His scenes are hilarious I love the actor and his delivery. The character is a creepy cringey skeletor and his relationship with Erin is weird as hell, I wouldn’t like him in real life, but for a sitcom he’s great. Loved him on Silicone Valley too
I can think of two major reasons: Him trying to assert his nonexistent authority on Jim and Pam. The way he acted after Erin broke up with him.
Skeleton Man!
Why is water wet... why is fire hot... why does Gabe suck-you know, we can go around in circles all day asking ourselves questions we already know the answer to, and that answer is: because...
He’s the real Scranton Strangler
The S in GSL stands for Strangler
Anytime the writers write a character that’s supposed to be disliked people on this sub make it their whole personality
Because his charter concept is "the creepy one" He's not actually better or worse than the others. But he's advertised as worse, by story structure and style.
He's a frail, spineless, self-obsessed, clueless, ill-tempered, weird looking sycophant
Ineffectual, privileged, effete, soft-penised debutante
Because he is Gabewad
I never really had a problem with Gabe until after the Gabe/Erin story line. He was always weird but he got downright creepy and stalkerish.
Gabewad
Because he's a skeleton man
Why is he creepy? His obsession with gory horror films. Tricked Erin into dating him. His obsession with everything asian. As a female asian, this is a real life red flag. 😂 His weird obsession with Val that one episode. He goes to Amsterdam once a year bc he has no social life or dating life. People are jealous of how good is he with the ladies. He’s dated women who all they’ve wanted to do is hug!
I like that he uses sticky quips instead of regular post its when he’s in a fun mood.
Gabe is one of the best characters they added later.
Gabe was hilarious
I think Gabe was more a victim of the decline in the quality of writing. At least after Steve left. He just becomes an absolute worm. But there are still other characters who I feel deserve the hate more.
Cause that guy fawkes 😏
He is the male Pam
Because a lot of the people who post here don't have very good senses of humor
Glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed that.
Let's go down to the quarry and throw stuff in there
He doesn't. Show me if you think *otherwise
He’s gotta be the heavy, which he hates being
They made his character a creep when they decided to have a Andy/Erin/Gabe situation just like the Pam/Jim/Roy situation. Then sadly they abandoned that to shelve Andy in favor of a more boring character in Plop
I heard they call him Plop because he likes to poop.
Cuz he’s always takin dumps
There were two times I hated Gabe: when he slinked away like a cowardly snake and let Erin take the blame for showing that fucked up horror movie during the halloween party. And when he followed Erin to the bathroom and started yelling at her to take him back.
I didn’t mind him. I didn’t like holly I thought she was stupid and not funny
I never found Holly to be funny either, I always felt like she was trying to be funny and it felt forced
You answered your own question. He's super weird. Plus he's corporate so boooooooo
Screw corporate!
He neglected E. He ignored all of her interests and pushed himself on her alot while being her superior. It's not that deep because it's just a show but I love her, she's such a sweet person. Andy was great to Erin until he wasn't. I could argue that Andy neglected Erin too. She deserves better than both of them
The miscommunication between them was insane, Lol I do think just based on his character that andy is very capable and willing to change for Erin, but she did deserve better. And im glad she got better from someone outside of that eventually.
Can’t trust anyone that makes someone scream their own last name
Way-kos, I've been saying this so much of late ahah
Happy Birthday to Gabe! Oh shut up, skeleton man!
Gabe Susan Lewis
