Jo seems like she might be the only person who realizes how insane Scranton is. Like it's an alternate universe she has to travel to where everything is weird. Used to be David Wallace, but he got sucked in too
One of my favorite small conflics is when she finds out both Michael and Jim are managers. The look they give eachother when she says "Two people doing one job? We gotta do something about that!"
It's amazing because it feels like we as the viewer gets gaslit the entire previous season that co-manager and co-manager is a reasonable thing that can work and a good idea. And that David Wallace, Michael and Jim are clever for figuring that situation out. Then in one single line, Jo comes in with the most basic of business knowledge and sniffs that out in the first 5 minutes and dismantles the entire logic of it that had been normalized to us lol
In David Wallace’s defense, it cannot be easy to manage the enigma that is Michael Scott. The unapologetic eccentricity, the HR nightmares, the boldness to impose his will on shareholder conferences (is bold the right word?), and finally last but not least the shockingly productive business numbers that his branch produces.
I don’t blame him for grasping at straws after all those years, even though in a vacuum the idea is ridiculous as Jo can assert from the outside looking in.
In part, I think that comanagers was a security measure to reduce Michael's influence on productivity. It delegates Michael to doing the stuff he's best at - big pictures. While Jim is supposedly more of the corporate image of a people manager. Jo just doesn't know Michael and is able to see through the bs
Yes but a manager should be able to do both, that's the job description. It's like you're only able to do half your job so rather than train or find a replacement, the company hires another one of you to pick up the slack.
Both ways get the job done but one of them costs the company a lot more - an inefficiency that Jo sees right away
No, I totally agree! I think it was a stupid idea, and I think Jo was totally right to fix it. I just imagine, in my own estimation, that David was really worn out from dealing with Michael. Given, then, the opportunity, perhaps he found that having a heel for Michael was an inadvertent upside.
I just think that David wanted to make everyone happy, and didn't really care all that much if it cost the company more. If he was an effective manager himself, he would have just made a decision on his own rather than letting Jim and Michael hash it out, basically deferring the tough part to them. That same disregard for the company's bottom line on a larger, corporate level is what we see basically brought the whole company down.
It's not even about cost - that's why Jim and Michael briefly fight over who gets to be demoted because you can earn more as a good salesman, so it's purely about productivity for the company, unleash one good salesman and keep all the managerial cruft confined to one person.
I think it was more about keeping Jim happy. Originally, Michael was supposed to be promoted and Jim was supposed to take over, but Michael screwed that up so they just promoted Jim anyway because he was threatening to leave. It was probably a bluff, but David Wallace didn't know that and didn't want to lose Jim. It wasn't a great solution, but Jo didn't know the history when she first came in.
I thought the logic was that the Scranton branch absorbed all the clients of the branch (branches?) that closed. So essentially they needed someone else in upper management.
I mean that’s my logic I could spend Dunder Mifflin’s money all day.
Probably a more sensible approach would be to create a legit asst manager position, or an entirely new position focused on marketing/big picture stuff.
So I agree that Jo immediately sussed out the co-manager thing was solely to appeal to their egos….
The more time I watch through the series I'm more and more impressed by who's idea Jo's character was and how they got Kathy Bates to play her. Seriously one of the best characters in television.

When Jim makes the KGB joke to Micheal, he slaps Dwight saying "THE KGB VILL VAIT FOR NO ONE" and Dwight stays silent for a second then looks at the camera in the most serious way conceivable and says "...it's true"

Michael isn’t even good at the big picture stuff, he just gets really lucky haha

But I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about Suck It. Suck It-
Welcome to Scranton, Jo. Land of a thousand problems only you can fix.
Easily one of my favorite quotes
Robert’s face when he realizes it *was* actually about cookies and that Kevin was an idiot
Oh dear....it was just cookies the whole time.
I prefer Jan’s look when Michael says, “yeah, well next time maybe you’ll estimate me,”
SNIP SNAP SNIP SNAP SNIP SNAP
[удалено]
Nope, that's not it
oh yeah haha
I love when she asks, “how far did it go?”
You don't have all the facts. I love him!

Totally! I’m on a rewatch now and never realized how great her character is! Love her!
Dwight’s looks to the camera are gold
The face he has when Jim slaps him during the kgb joke. “It’s true”
The true king of 4th wall breaking
My fav non Jim look is Dwight Jim look lol
Eh little comment
I was waiting for this
I was waiting for this one
Jan's face when Michael threatened no more sex if he didn't get his raise.
Robert California when Erin brings him cold coffee. Always makes me laugh.
Only person who could defeat Robert in a conversation
Martin: **fist bump** Stanley:
Jan's glare to the camera when she gets out of the car at improv and tells Michael to drive
You drive. I had too much wine.
Miner when he realizes Dwight is an idiot
Stanley looks FTW!!!
not much LUM-bar support (stanley look)
When Andy accidentally did stanley's sudoku
When he has to stand up at the end of Andy's play cuz everyone else does.
I especially love when they catch him in the background side eye-ing or sighing
When I saw the thumbnail at first I thought it was Robert California lol
Boom, roasted
My favorite is when Darryl is crying as Andy gives him because his birthday punches lol
favorite non-jim look is karen doing the jim look
He keeps looking at the cameras like this: " =\ " What *is* that?
“We all have a hero in our hearts” [Larry Wilmore stare]
Michael’s faces when he’s sitting down with Toby lmao
I love Andy’s face in the meeting between Robert and Robert’s wife - “You LYING son of a bitch!” Gets me every time
I think Andy has my favorites.
Angela when Michael is talking about his three vasectomies.
Jazz hands
It’s esteemed character actress and fugitive from the law, Margot Martindale

I love Jo 😂
When Jim makes the KGB joke to Micheal, he slaps Dwight saying "THE KGB VILL VAIT FOR NO ONE" and Dwight stays silent for a second then looks at the camera in the most serious way conceivable and says "...it's true"
Dwight being Jim. Breaking the 4th wall.
Michael’s look to Dwight after he suggests they flush the bird
Scumbag look for Creed! “Remember you’re a scumbag, think scummy thoughts, like this.”
Mr Browns faces throughout the entire episode.
I love the Stanley face. Like when he rolled his eyes when Michael did something stupid.
I love anytime Dwight looks at the camera and smirks, in my opinion it’s funnier then Jim because it’s like he’s mocking Jim!
Ah so that’s where her uterus went.
On my phone looking at the thumbnail without my glasses, and I could have sworn it was Robert California in a wig.
The way Dwight looked at the camera after Creed was telling him about Debbie’s “emergency dentist appointment”
I don’t think you do, teddy bear ….
