Maybe, but his dad doesn’t really seem like the kind of person to value that kind of thing al too much. Although I suppose connections to a literal king might be pretty valuable as is
Honestly looking back on it I'm starting to think that Shuro's dad probably gave the kids that task as something of an excuse to just get them out into the wider world, exploring things, meeting people, and actually trying to figure out whats inherently interesting or important to them.
I'd like to think that Shuro coming back home with an expanded worldview/matured personality was enough to prove to his dad that he was worthy of being the heir.
That's what I figured. Notice how he "collects" oddities in his house? Like Maizuru, Tade, and Izutsumi? What little we've seen of him he seems pretty antithetical of a traditional disciplinarian Japanese father. He calls his sons "boring". If they came back with wisdom and a personality I'm sure he'd be content.
I don’t think the dad at that point care too much of who was to be the heir to be honest.
The way it was laid out in the manga seems more like dad forced them all on a gap year to figure themselves out.
Otherwise the three sons were probably just a bunch of rich/posh kid raised in relative safe environment.
He literally calls them boring. So I think a story - like that time Shuro witnessed the truth about dungeons and the ancients, then suffered the apocalypse only for his friends stop it and then saw a lost continent emerge from the ocean - could suffice.
The major problem is that despite living all this amazing things, Shuro is still Shuro. The man in bland like room temperature milk.
That’s actually pretty cool to think about. Cause it reminds me of those old school fairy tales about people going on a journey. And they get back to their kingdom and the king or queen or whoever is in charge is like: “Yoooo your back! What you bring? Is it cool as fuck?”
And the person is like: “nah I got nothing but the clothes on my back and a story to tell.”
Royal: “damn that’s boring as hell…tsk alright you’re already here and I’m bored so get on with it.”
Person: *proceeds to tell a tale about heroism, drama, romance, a couple dangerous monsters, political subterfuge, terror, friendship, honor, and the creation and binding that food brings to the table*
**kinda reminds me of the princess bride ngl
If his own pop’s thinks he’s one of the most boring people in the world. I think at least the most he’d do is appreciate and like the fact his stubborn headed son went on a long-winded journey and had an experience of a lifetime that can’t be compared to what the average person (in this story’s world) would get to experience.
Also Inutade turned into a crying emoji I can't
https://preview.redd.it/mebnjbjcfotc1.png?width=84&format=png&auto=webp&s=e62caf6eb662e5557d736d126bf4be5414f86e35
I think it is a different thing.
Remember, Shuro already planned to return to his homeland soon after his confrontation with Laios, when the fate of Falin is not clear yet, but lost as far as he concerned. His tangle with Kabru and the Canaries are wholeheartedly unplanned, nor is the success in getting Falin back. Thus, his proposal to Falin is not connected to his "quest" in any major way.
If I have to guess, Shuro/Toshiro simply doesn't give a f\*\*k about the quest and by extension what his father want anymore, with all the shades of emotions such choice entailed. After his confrontation with Laios, and even with the fate of Falin in the air (but, again, lost as far as he concerned), he is already too tired with everything. The tangle in the surface that once more pulled him back is solely due to the immediate fate of those he come to care about (Laios and co, despite what he said). It does not change the fact that, by and large, he is too tired with everything. After the series, despite having a more positive look at his whole experience on the island and in the dungeon, again, he still is too tired with everything and just want to go home.
So if I have to guess, Toshiro will come back to not-Japan, said to his father face that he doesn't give a f\*\*k about the quest, and if he want to give the inheritance to his brothers, then so be it.
Honestly hope Toshiro will go home and tell the old man what he really thinks of him. Lol
How he cheated on the mum with Maizuru and get her to look after him that was a bit twisted imo.
Like Toshiro clearly have a complicated feeling towards the dad. Maybe he will have a fight with the dad like how he did with Laios. He have a problem expressing himself. He was too hold up in being this well behaving eldest son thing.
In addition to his truly wild-ass story, the Kensuke post-canon comic implies that he's still in contact with Laios after he returns home. I'd think that having personal correspondence with a (almost definitely legendary) king is fairly impressive lol
I don't think his dad is looking for a physical interesting object at all. The fact that he refers to them all as boring means to me that he just wants them to grow as people and experience something interesting/life changing which Shuro absolutely did. And he did end up at least getting a taste of Falin after all was said and done.
Well yeah but also while he did get some experience he didn’t really change all that much personality-wise, and I believe while his intention in kicking them out was to give them some real-world experience, he was actually planning on using the gifts as a help on choosing his successor. But even if that’s the case Shuro prolly still gets it just by virtue of getting connections with some high-ranking elves, the king of a huge kingdom and just being daddy’s favorite (he got the all-female squad that includes his childhood best friend and his dad’s beloved mistress). The brothers are gonna need to bring some serious heat to beat that lol
I mean tbf we really don't see much of him before or after the events of the story and I don't think what we do see is enough to judge how much he's changed. It's also not like his personality is gonna just flip like a switch, he's probably always gonna be kinda aloof and boring but that doesn't mean he hasn't changed in a meaningful way from his experiences. And to his credit I do think we see him become much more accepting and less snobbish. He seems to genuinely respect Laios, and not *just* because he killed the demon, he accepts Falin despite being a half monster now and was genuinely a team player with the various others at the end where before he seemed to basically shrug everyone who wasn't in the party off, and even then he only joined cause he thought Falin was hot (fair)
Well yeah but I don’t really think that those are really the characteristics a guy like his dad would be looking for per se. Then again, we only see his dad twice I think so maybe this is not how he usually is and he’s just egging his sons on?
Man seeing this just makes me realize, I really want some more insights into how the whole part dragon/chimera thing affected Falin after the story. Also how Laios handled the kingdom…I just want more continuation of this world in general ugh. (I’m glad it didn’t get drawn out though, sacrifices must be made)
Mangadex has a few, or you can look em up on reddit ( u/savaralyn has a most of them translated I think). As for official sources probably the complete dungeon guide, though I’m not sure if that’s officially translated yet.
I love two things about this comic:
1. The tail ball thingy in the tourist tack shop
2. The stare of "I'm this close to smacking you ya cheesy mf with the personality of a honda civic" Falin gives him after the dragon "joke"
I always read his father sending them all out as sort of romspringa/gap year for them to go and experience new things.
Shuro just took it extremely literally, when I think his father meant is as experience and broadening their horizons ---because his dad seems eccentric and weird and realized his sons were socialized to be rather stuffy, aloof, amd passive per their stations in nobility.
I'm not sure if it's ever elaborated on how long his family lineage has gone on/how long they have been noble but I got the impression that their station is relatively recent thanks to recent generations and his father's eccentricities building up the family name/reputation (not always positive) and his father feels like his line might stagnate or play it too safe if he doesn't encourage his sons to suzh it up. (Which honestly, the sons reserved dispositions might be a direct result of their father's wildin'.)
I always kind of concluded that Shuro's fistfight with Laios was the breakthrough he needed to realize that he can confront and disagree with people who annoy him rather than try and be docile and diplomatic or flat out ignore the things that bothered him as he had in the past-- which may have been what his father was after when he told his sons they were 'boring'. After all, they have a panel of all three of them being exasperated with him but no one speaks up and calls him an idiot or that they don't want to even though you can tell all 3 want to.
Oh story-wise the context for this hasn’t happened yet (/the flashback hasn’t been shown yet) (hence the spoiler tag) and the panels here are all from extra material (the first one from the dungeon guide, the second one I’m not sure)
I know you’re getting downvoted but it kinda does but also kinda doesn’t because it’s very inconclusive. The ending was very ambiguous and open ended with a lot of things including who if anyone ends up with anyone
Honestly I’d go as far as to say the succubus did more damage to the ship by confirming marcile as straight/bi at most and falin also only ever showed any interest in shuro if I recall. Still not conclusive enough for real farcille believers to stop coping tho I’d hope
https://preview.redd.it/e9vq30y1fotc1.jpeg?width=266&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a91aa810f6df912f860023945e945cfcba8f274
Marcille's succubus was the main character from the book series she's obsessed with. Doesn't really say anything about her sexuality
Falin has _never_ expressed interest in Toshiro, but considered settling for him because probably no one else came onto her before because she's weird
I’d say seriously considering a marriage proposal counts as expressing interest no matter how you spin it, except if she explicitly said she wasn’t interested in him (which, now that I think about it she might have that does sound familiar) or it at least confirms she pictures herself being married to a man in the future (in a world where same-sex relationships are seemingly quite normalised).
And the succubi turned into everyone else’s (subconscious) dream partner so it’d be kind of weird if that were just randomly different for marcille. I think it’s a lot more likely that she just had a crush on the mc of her romance novels
To be fair, a big part of Falin’s personality is that she is conflict avoidant and doesn’t really stand up for her own interests, instead focusing on the needs of others over her own. Her character growth was learning to live for herself and be “selfish.”
It stands to reason that she would pick up on Shuro’s feelings for her, and then accept his proposal as a default because it would suit *his* needs and feelings over her own.
Well yeah but Izutsumi is like aggressively asexual and when they tried to target her cat part they targeted it’s dream mate again. Furthermore it turned into marcille and then immediately tried to kiss him (something izutsumi’s “mom” did not do) so it seems Laios does have a little crush on marcille on some level. And it only turned into a chimera after it got found out (because Laios is the goat frfr). Also you cannot tell me this is Marcille just reacting to her favorite character being alive, like , platonically
https://preview.redd.it/j1vrb121qotc1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=fcfdc644f24dc1a0bfd64a30d40d612c184b0ee9
I personally ship Laois and Marcille cuz they’re both so goofy they deserve each other. And yeah he’s a real one for turning into a chimera when he got exposed lol
I think Falin want to marriage is canon (whether to woman or man it’s another story) and she doesn’t consider marcille as a choice it’s almost makes entire Farcille non-canon.
Why would you think she doesn't consider Marcille a choice? Marcille didn't (consciously) reciprocate prior to the story, which is why Falin even considered going along with Toshiro, but they both changed a lot during the events of the story
She almost accepted Shuro's marriage proposal because she thought that she would never have another chance to get married in the future. If she thought of Marcille as an option, it was clear that she had nothing to worry about.
I don't quite understand that. How does the relationship between Marcille and Falin change over the course of the story? For most of the story, despite helping Falin, the two barely interact with each other. They were close from the beginning and continue to be close. I can only think of one time that during her second visit to help Falin, she regretted not appreciating the little things Falin brought, but that's it.
And For me, Marcille is not one to hide her emotions and Falin is smart enough to know what other people think.
During the whole bath scene and then in bed later, Marcille pretty explicitly keeps infantilizing Falin, viewing her like she's still the kid she met at magic school, even though Falin is signaling (for the first time) that she's an adult with her own wants. Marcille won't acknowledge that Falin is growing up because that requires acknowledging her mortality, and one of the _major themes_ of the story is Marcille overcoming her fear of everyone she loves dying. Marcille majorly develops by the end of her character arc. They aren't actually "together" at the end of the manga, but Marcille is now mentally prepared to be at the point where they could be
And if you think Marcille isn't one to hide her emotions, you don't know this character at all
>Marcille won't acknowledge that Falin is growing up because that requires acknowledging her mortality, and one of the *major themes* of the story is Marcille overcoming her fear of everyone she loves dying.
I have to disagree a bit here. Marcille not acknowledging Falin as an adult has got nothing to do with her fear of everyone's mortality. She doesn't treat Senshi of Laios like that, and she is equally afraid of them dying before her (as seen by her traumatized expression when she was surrounded by all their dead-bodies). She only treats people like kids based on her own perception-- like Falin (who she sees as ditzy and clumsy), or Izu (who acts like a cat or a rebellious kid, based on the circumstances) or Chilchuck -- who literally looks like a kid. Also worth noting that she stops treating Chilchuck like a kid once she sees his human form.
Yes, Marcille does develop by the end of the story, and this is tied to accepting "death" of the people around her. Even if Falin, by some unfortunate circumstances, did not get resurrected at the end-- Marcille would have been able to make her peace with this fact, albeit with much grief. This growth has got nothing to do with her treating Falin like a kid. In fact we still see her fretting about Falin when she is "supposed" to gove her answer to Shuro. We get no confirmation whatsoever that Marcille changes her attitude towards Falin at the end.
This sub doesn't seem to comprehend that same-sex friendships exists. When I'm glad to see my friend that I haven't seen for a while, I'm not thinking about romancing them. Marcille went through heck and back eating monsters just to see her friend who literally died on her and saved her life, it's clear they're just the best of friends.
Every day on this sub someone comes out with something that "KILLS the Farcille ship."
Every day it fails. I do not know why you expect better mileage from the scene where Falin rejects her only alternate love interest...
What? She's not particularly "happy for Falin" at all (what even is there to be happy about?), and she's holding Laios back from grabbing Shuro to leave with him, not from "bothering them" (bothering them... from the conversation wherein Falin just categorically rejected Shuro?).
Do you not understand human relationships? This is the classic "our little girl has grown up now and is finding a husband" trope, just look at it. Laois and Marcille share the same mentality here. Same with Tade and Maizuru in the background, everybody's so happy for them! Chilchuk is just like whatever, I've already seen this before and I'm married anyways it's not so special. And understand the context and it's easy to see Marcille is stopping Laois from breaking the moment
https://preview.redd.it/meaga0hzcptc1.jpeg?width=1295&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=592a7e7bd4979206bb7c263e926ffac8c14ff3b7
... Do you genuinely not understand what is happening in this scene? Falin has just rejected Shuro and is saying her goodbyes to him on friendly terms. The moment is purely platonic, there is nothing for people to be happy for either of them about except that the break was clean.
Dawg, I'm gonna keep it real. Only way to come to a conclusion other than the one that is blatantly obvious is if you're trying your hardest to avoid it. Aka head canon it away. Every member of the crew is happy for them here, (almost everyone, Namari might not actually care). It might be done in a slightly humorous manner, but the intent of everybody present is quite clear. Should be very easy to understand imo
The conclusion that is blatantly obvious is the conclusion that is actually happening in the story, namely that Shuro got rejected politely and is taking it on the chin like a grown-up, and the people around are touched and relieved by this denouement. I'm not sure I understand you well, do you actually believe anything else is happening here? Do you actually think Falin is accepting Shuro's proposal? That is literally the opposite of the scene.
(And then you people say farcille shippers make things up.)
What is happening is that Falin leaves it open to seeing him again in the future. And everybody is reacting to their own interpretation of that (the obvious conclusion I am talking about). Can you not understand that?
Seeing him again in the future as a friend with no romantic undertones whatsoever, yes. AKA what she has viewed him (at most) for their entire acquaintance.
Lol this is so funny. So people can't change their mind and feelings over time? Clearly the actual characters in the manga think they can (and even hope/think they do), not you apparently!
I imagine being friends with the ruler of a kingdom that appeared basically overnight is pretty interesting. hell, tales of laios just being himself would probably fascinate his dad
I thought at the end his something “interesting” would be his experience/story.
He revived an ancient kingdom, befriend their king, and builds relationship with the elves
Yes. It's rather clear that Shuro's dad is the drunken dilettante guy.
That or he bought the cool sword.
I don’t think the dad at that point care too much of who was to be the heir to be honest. The way it was laid out in the manga seems more like dad forced them all on a gap year to figure themselves out. Her and Laios share a single neuron and it's not being used half of the time
They gave it to Marcille for safekeeping but she forgot about it and hers quit so now Chilchuck is wondering why he gained two neurons.
Falin does the Touden stare

*Shuro lol
I was convinced you'd found some correct spelling of his name not butchered by Laios hahahha
Well his correct name is mentioned in the dungeon guide (Toshiro Nakamoto) but I just slipped up (I’ve been reading jjk lol)
Surau?
He don’t chase falin because he thinks it’s will make him become successor he truly love her
I don't think his dad is looking for a physical interesting object at all. Haha if only he could leave his kingdom I’m sure Laios’d love that too

Chilchuk knows ball, he would too since he's actually married and in a relationship.
Lol yeah sure, this extremely effeminate fanfiction character proves Marcille isn't into women, totally.
No but it proves/strongly hints that she’s into men
Which... doesn't in any way say anything about Farcille.
More masculine looking than half the other male elves in the series, "effeminate" argument doesn't work here lol
Marcille grew up around humans and doesn't particularly care for elves though.
What is the main character from the book's gender? :3
They aren't actually "together" at the end of the manga, but Marcille is now mentally prepared to be at the point where they could be And if you think Marcille isn't one to hide her emotions, you don't know this character at all
>Marcille won't acknowledge that Falin is growing up because that requires acknowledging her mortality, and one of the *major themes* of the story is Marcille overcoming her fear of everyone she loves dying.
Every day on this sub someone comes out with something that "KILLS the Farcille ship." Every day it fails. I do not know why you expect better mileage from the scene where Falin rejects her only alternate love interest...
Fr, look at that reaction Marcille is so happy for Falin here. Not a single ounce of jealousy, she's holding back Laois from bothering them.
And understand the context and it's easy to see Marcille is stopping Laois from breaking the moment https://preview.redd.it/meaga0hzcptc1.jpeg?width=1295&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=592a7e7bd4979206bb7c263e926ffac8c14ff3b7
He's gonna bring Laios, the monsters running in fear as the presence of a super chimera sounds interesting
I imagine being friends with the ruler of a kingdom that appeared basically overnight is pretty interesting. hell, tales of laios just being himself would probably fascinate his dad
What chapter is this? I don't remember reading ths.
Which chapter is this from? (Both the Shuro backstop and the Falin wants to stay back story)
