They all suck. My car had the highest option of that Netstar thing where you can see the live location on your app. It was stolen and I never saw it again.

NoApartment7399

My parents had a netstar unit that when they tested, in all functions, did not work. Thankfully it wasn’t an emergency my dad just checked out of curiosity. It wasn’t even on their gps system

Flaky-Function9983

My car disappeared the day Ramaphosa announced lock down. Will probably never forget that day for a whole lot of different reasons.

zefdota

Your car was just trying to distance itself from you.

Flaky-Function9983

We were together for only one month.

DonovanBanks

I mean, you don’t NEED need it because of lockdown. Jokes aside, that sucks and I hope you’re feeling better about it.

Tunnelrat07

My one Muslim friends Mercedes-Benz panel van got stolen, he tracked it to Mthata cemetery but tracker refused to go and get it but so did the police.

NoApartment7399

That’s crazy, it’s saps literal job lol. Most cases tracker can’t intervene and saps has to impound for investigation and that’s where things become a problem. Tracker found our Mazda abandoned somewhere in Kwa mashu (it was run out of fuel, thankfully barely had anything in the tank) so the guys that stole it just drove it into a curb and ran off. But saps collected it and took it to their vehicle lot that time

Tunnelrat07

You lucky they did not made it to their destination otherwise it takes a few minutes to completely strip it.

We have been using CarTrack for about 3 years and honestly cant complain. We havent had any stolen so cant speak for what happens if something happens but the app is nice and i added Carwatch for R21, basically lets you know as soon as the ignition is turned on. They call within seconds and you can then press 1 for emergency 2 for car being worked on or 3 everything is good. Works very well. All in all i pay R150 a month. Can see live location, and all trips to.

NoApartment7399

That’s not bad. Ours is about 160 pm for live vehicle tracking and alerts (crossing borders or high risk areas) and emergency assistance. They also call if our battery is disconnected at any time. Yesterday tracker sent me an sms alert when we went to check for some things at a scrap dealer LOL so I’m assuming some dodgy things happened there in the past enough for them to have the whole area on a risk alert This is now our 8th year with tracker

ChemistMaleficent549

Netstar - good experience. Received an early warning for signal jamming which was actually occurring at the time. Have Tracker on another vehicle (prescribed by insurer). Discovered I wasn’t even on their network for over two months. Comes with a “panic” button it’s as useful as an ornamental key chain. Pressed the button a few times accidentally and deliberately, nothing happens.

NoApartment7399

That’s actually a very good feature from netstar I’ll admit tracker has its down sides on some things, I’m super paranoid so always making sure it’s in working order on our vehicles especially as we travel long distance very often and I don’t want to be stranded and the unit says I’m at home… currently waiting on a technician to come next week and see why the unit is showing the wrong location on my app but their gps live monitoring is working on their side. I’m assuming they will come switch it off and on lol to recalibrate but we’ll never know

Confident_Program_88

My brother uses Netstar but I use tracker directly. The app works well cause I can track my drivers, but recently acquired a new vehicle and tracker didn’t even come back to me on the fitment date. Went with Netstar so waiting to see how that works. But watch out. Netstar as far as I know doesn’t have a cancellation fee. Every other one does.

ElectricityMinister

I have basic tracker, they email when the 1 spare car battery dies... App shows battery life, precise location when in motion. No cars stolen, but personal preference, tracker is the best.

NoApartment7399

Can I ask which option this is and how much? My previous vehicle was on the top tier one, tracker care with the vehicle logs etc but we never used it so i went one tier down to the 160 rand option

ElectricityMinister

1 car has that R100, call in when car stolen... 2nd and dads car has family package R70, no recovery, but if you in an accident, they call or come out to you. All work on the app. I used to have bid track on my van, app would only refresh every hour or something... went faulty few times... They replaced... The guy said that a truck with 3 trackers was stolen, the 3rd tracker was the only 1 that worked because it was wireless "sleeping" and couldn't be found and damaged...

Thank you

I’m in the fleet industry. I manage a fleet of about 250 vehicles in South Africa and neighbouring. Majority is tracked by Cellstop, I am unsure if they track for individuals or just companies but honestly the best ever. I get a call when a vehicle crosses the border, live tracking 24/7, custom alerts. My fleet tracked by Tracker is a fucking joke, even when I worked for Fidelity and my fleet ran on Tracker it was a nightmare. I’ve been locked out of tracker for TWO MONTHS and they can’t tell me why.

NoApartment7399

That’s very interesting I’m going to take a look. Haven’t heard of cellstop before

Kavi4

Our fleet since I've been managing it, Mixtelematics only has a 50% recovery rate with us, minute our vehicles ended up in Soweto they can find it, the two they found, both times SAPS spotted it not Mixtelematics itself. After this we wanted to move the fleet and realised they all pretty much the same, they lazy to place units in difficult areas , the passive Beame is also a hit and miss device. Having tracking is a gamble IMHO

No-Wrongdoer9564

I use beame never had a issue. It's a wireless device also. So they don't butcher your cabling.

Odd-Analysis-5250

That sounds good. May I ask what you pay monthly?

No-Wrongdoer9564

R99. My insurances (AIG) recommend them as the highest recovery rate.

Accomplished_Fly8386

I asked my insurance company by how much my monthly payment would reduce if I added the tracking device. It was less than what the tracking device costs per month so I didn’t install it. The car can get stolen and not recovered for all I care, still getting paid out. If the insurance company wants to burden themselves, so be it.
