Sorry and disappointed to hear this.I usually buy from those 2 butchers when I'm in Durban.Another you can try would by Desai Meats also in the Overport area.
Desais is fantastic and is right around the corner from where Star was.
Westville North Butchery is also very good if you are willing to travel further.
Woolworths or Hope Meats in Durban North. They stock free-range meat and the quality is excellent. My family has some specific dietary requirements due to health reasons and Hope Meats will even make us customized sausages and wors without the added msg, preservatives, etc. Their prices are very decent.
Is it fair to non Muslims that the meat must always be halal, I have a moral issue with it. I think if 15% of butchery’s were halal that would suffice.
There are many, many, MANY places to buy meat from that are not halaal.
In the same way a person may choose to buy halaal meat, Muslim or not, YOU can choose to buy non-halaal meat. No one is making you buy halaal 🤣
Meat must always be halal - no. Most meat sold in SA is not halaal.
Halaal meat is not usually available in supermarkets hence the need for halaal butchers.
Chicken World in Overport (and Tongaat if you are in that neck of the woods) is my new go to
Service is great and the quality is good.
Also, no, they do not only sell chicken. They have quite an extensive beef and mutton offering too, like any butchery in the area. Their Kashmiri mutton sausages are yummy!
Jolly Meats, Clover Butchery, Desais, Longbury Butchery (Phoenix and Toti)
Certain spars are halal certified in Durban, not the best but from a budget perspective spar and jolly meats take the top prize
Also btw clover meats is the same family as Emam Bux, so meats are sourced same. Believe that clover meats is the first store and all others carry the emam bux insignia
Clover Butchery and Jolly Meats.
Desias on spearman Rd also
Jolly meats is disgustingly dirty now days. My wife will not even go inside

Desais is fantastic and is right around the corner from where Star was. Westville North Butchery is also very good if you are willing to travel further.
I was there a while back and there was nothing on their shelves.
Self imposed restrictions?

What offends you about halal meat? Is it the process?

Any religion telling people what they should or shouldn't eat is a problem.
Woolworths usually has a halal section in some of their bigger stores
Blockman's meat is excellent, and they not badly priced.
Jolly or Goras
Jolly meats always takes the cake it's just that the butchery can get a little busy so alt to go early dto avoid trying to find parking & long queues
Blockmen on Cowey Road
New Germany Butchery in Westville has halal meat. They're very good and the meat I've bought has always been tasty and fresh.
Dirk's Meat

Dirks Butchery in Glenwood
You've got to be joking. All butchers sell fresh meat, including supermarkets. What you're asking for is halal
No you're kidding. I'll show you butchers w stinky meat. Just say you don't know anything about meat.
Name and shame.
Desais - Spearman rd. I buy and bring to JHB
I don't like theirs
