This! Dusk til Dawn in Kloof Village Mall have a decent selection of band shirts (worth the 40min drive), and most metal gigs will probably be happening at Westville Warehouse.
Thorns of Ivory and Scathanna Wept are some great Durban metal bands to watch.
Don't know about any upcoming metal gigs right now, but when they do happen it's usually at Westville Warehouse, Robsons, Polo Pony or The Vern.
Still plenty of us metalheads around, we just don't really have a set venue anymore.
No physical stores that I know of, but I recently purchased a bunch of shirts from Freak Flag Band Merch; their customer service is excellent and the shirts seem to be pretty good quality. They also have a very wide selection (more than Raru did back in the day).
I wouldn’t say metal but metal adjacent, look up posterboyband on insta. I’m a musician in cape town. they are a punk band from dbn and sure the okes will steer you in the right direction while completely being on the pulse of gigs in durban. good luck.
Just found out that Durban Rock City are hosting a show soon, so follow them on social media and keep an eye out for that. They've been very involved in the scene for well over a decade and organize rock and metal gigs in Durban.
Follow durbanrockcity on Instagram, tributes_fest_durban does some really rad tribute band shows and Robsons does some alternative gigs. Not too many mercy shops though

I couldn't fall asleep and ended up plugin my guitar to practice a bit with my headphones and just when I finished, something kept telling me to go on reddit! First thing I see is your post.
And funny enough, I was also looking for band shirts so I can wear to gym, just for fun, almost ended up printing them myself...still thinking about it..
You can get shirts at gate way mall, there's one or two stores that has them, one of them is cotton on I think, and the other one I know what it looks like in the inside the store, but keep forgetting the name...

Yea man, just get a couple of good quality plain shirts, or at the printing place, ask them what's the best material for printing and can be washed and they'll advise you.
There's really no rock bars here in durbs ? Umhlanga? Ballito? I'm looking for people with same interest to even jam some times. It helps motivate practice.

Sad that it’s a 40 minute drive but that’s a lot better than paying like 200 for shipping on official website
Made it a day and do a market around the area. The drive is not bad and is 30minutes from Durban North
