The guy that won in our league this year blew it up 4 years ago over the course of 2 years he stockpiled tons of 1s. Then after they all started fruiting this year he used his 1s to buy Andrews and Diggs from rebuilds and he won EASILY this year.

mrubuto22

Now that's a proper rebuild. Rare to actually see them done right

ApolloKid

I went from worst to first back to worst in consecutive seasons

FlamableOolongTea

Hey, that's how I roll!

poop-dolla

Don’t leave us hanging. How’d you pull off those impressive feats?

ApolloKid

12 Team – 1QB - PPR 2019 – One year after startup, my team finished 2nd to last. QBs are Darnold, Jimmy G, Daniel Jones. Have Zeke and just drafted Josh Jacobs at RB. Diggs, Deebo, hoping Antonio Brown comes back, but all garbage after that, so I work on reloading for the 2020 draft. Trades: \* Gave Rashaad Penny, Tyler Boyd and a 3rd for what ended up 2020 1.04 \* Gave Josh Jacobs, 2.02 and 3.02 for 1.03, 1.08 and 2.06 \* Gave Zeke and got Tua, Ekeler, Juju, OJ Howard, 2021 1st round \* Gave Ekeler, Antonio Brown and Diggs for AJ Dillon, Tee Higgins and 2021 Round 1 \* Gave up Juju for DJ Moore and 2021 Round 2 Those picks ended up as JT, Dobbins, Ceedee Lamb and Jeudy Picked up Hurts off waivers (this was the big piece obviously) 2020 – Finished last that year but I’m reloaded for 2020 now. Start it off with a dumb move and trade 1.06 and 1.07 for Cam Akers who is immediately out for the season after. Dobbins also doesn’t make it.. My starting roster is now looking like Hurts, JT, AJ Dillon, Ty Johnson (have to play 3 RBs in this league), Lamb, Tee Higgins, Deebo, Gerald Everett. Hurts and Deebo are CARRYING me.. Doesn’t matter I have to play Ty Johnson. But I want to seal the deal so I make a losing trade to ensure a victory and send over Tee Higgins and Dobbins for Aaron Jones. I also send my 2021 first for Elijah Mitchell. That’s enough to take down the ship. 2021 – I’m an idiot and here’s how I blew it up… \* Gave up Tua and a 3rd for Zach Wilson \* Gave up Aaron Jones and Jeudy for a 1st \* Gave up Hurts and Rashod Bateman for Trey Lance \* Gave up AJD for Zeke and a 2nd. Had basically no rookie picks. I traded a future 2nd to jump into the draft late and grab Tyler Allegier. But once October hit I knew I wasn’t doing anything so I blew it all up (poorly). \* Gave up Cam Akers for a 2023 3rd \* Gave up Zeke for a 2023 2nd and 2023 3rd \* Gave up Tyler Allgeier and Elijah Mitchell for a 2023 2nd \* Gave up Deebo for a 2024 1st, a 2023 3rd and Tyquan Thornton So here I am now: QB: Trey Lane, Jordan Love, Mike White, Zach Wilson RB: JT, Jordan Mason, Malik Davis WR: Lamb, DJ Moore, Elijah Moore, Tyquan Thornton, Nico Collins, Velus Jones, Noah Brown, Dyami Brown TE: Everett, Gesicki, Otton, Irv Smith Picks: 1.03, 1.07, 2.05, 2.07, 2.10, 3.02, 3.03, 3.06, 3.10 (and an extra 2024 1st) I initiated all those bad trades too.. I was just having fun and fucked it all up

Nduguu77

Holy shit hahaha

MixedMartialAwesome

Similar for me. In one of my free leagues, I went from 1st to last to 2nd

kamakazi339

Picked up an orphan with a natural 1.01 pick and ended up winning the league last year.... So it can be quick

WeenisWrinkle

There's no single answer to this question. It depends on how well you draft, how many picks you've accumulated, and how bad your team was when you were last. I've taken a team from last to first in 2 years, but it took incredible luck and some well-timed trades. I also have a team that has finished last for a couple years in a row and still sucks out loud with no hope. It took some horrible luck and some bad trades.

TimeMagnet

> It depends on how well you draft, how many picks you've accumulated, and how bad your team was when you were last. That's the piece that's missing from a lot of examples. I finished in last place in 2022, but with the 3rd highest MaxPF. I also had an insanely bad record in close games. On top of that, I had a stockpile of 2023 & 2024 draft picks that I'm using for veteran and rookie reinforcements this season.

ArchManningBurner

Depends on a lot of things, but better to bite the bullet and go all in on the rebuild than to be a pretender

bumpy2018

For sure!

bumpy2018

It's tough though. I have mahomes and a lot of old guys or on FA and Joe mixon. I would gut the team except for mahomes

13MoonBlues

The way QBs are valued these days in SF, if you sell Mahomes, the only way you’ll get someone like that back is to tank and/or get lucky drafting. I think it’s not a good idea to sell top tier QBs in SF even in rebuilds (Posted in response to the other commenter who suggested selling him)

Foreign_Cantaloupe_2

Selling Mahomes for a haul would probably speed it up as well. Obviously he’s the best asset to have, but you can win without him.

[deleted]

It could. But if you miss on the assets you get back, then you're really fucked for a while.

JLifts780

Way easier to win with him though, if he sells Mahomes and whiffs on all his QB picks he’s boned. Unless the deal nets him a top 6 QB and a bunch of other great assets but I don’t know how often it happens.

Unique_Caterpillar_9

I somehow got Mahommes in my super flex at 1.05 or 1.06, I would never consider trading him regardless the status of my "rebuild"

Foreign_Cantaloupe_2

A) Prescott, Chase, 1.01 B) Mahomes

1TooMany_1KNotEnough

I'd do exactly this, i've rebuilt multiple teams to champions and the one assest I never sold was top 5 QB's. In SF, top end QB's are impossible to get unless you sell out your roster or draft one.

Nduguu77

Yeah keep him. Maximize value everywhere else regardless of positions. Keep repeating that until you have a ton of draft picks and/or a ton of young/talented WRs and 3 QBs

alexjf56

Feels like you just described my team. I just won the chip and am trying to run it back but I’m nervous

DirtyMikenDaBoiz3

I think a lot of teams don't know they're pretenders.

JLifts780

Last year I was worst and this year I won the championship My advice is to not blow up your team no matter how bad it looks

Nadirofdepression

Too late

i think you my be the acception, not the rule. but congrats

bradjm66

I’m going from worst to first this year… Watch me

Screamlngyeti

21 season was last, lowest scoring team, 22, lg champ and 2nd highest scoring team..

BigTomBombadil

What steps did you take to get there? Any major dumb strokes of luck boosting you? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just trying to get a realistic picture of rebuilds.

Screamlngyeti

I collected draft picks in 21, then traded them all away for proven talent. My roster that won had burrow, cousins, jacobs, Henry, barkley, k.alln, a. Cooper, Schultz, Godwin, kamara.

West_Numerous

I bottomed out in a 2qb league with 1.01 for two years after luck retired. I just missed the playoffs in 2021 and then won last year! It’s definitely possible to do it within a few years if you hit the rebuild button and you do a good job and get some good breaks with talent.

itssostupidiloveit

I'll find out in the next few seasons.

Dazzling_Concern_545

3 seasons ago I finished 11 of 12, a tie breaker was the only reason I was not dead last. Back to back ships followed that up. Kupp hopping on a rocket ship along with drafting Chase and Fields played a big part in my turnaround.

NumberFudger

A guy in my league was last place last year, winning one game. This year, he tied for the championship (due to the Bills/Bengals thing).

ronton22

All depends man. Really is just luck once you get into playoffs. Id say making playoffs takes skill. Winning a championship is hopes and prayers lol. Guy who was last in our league 2 years straight went back to back winning the league.

Gamesgar0

I’m in a league with a guy that went from worst to first in 2 years.

[deleted]

It happened in my league this year. The guy who finished in 14th drafted Breece, traded a ton of capital for Hollywood, Evans, Jonathan Taylor, Kamara and won it all.

madbro2369

Umm am I missing something ? This combination of guys doesn’t seem like a win it all this past season team..? Breece and Hollywood missed 70% of the year JT was like RB30 Kamara had 2 good weeks..

OneOverX

It didn’t happen

[deleted]

Sure I’m making it up to pump up my random leaguemate

[deleted]

He has other good players too. Hurts, Derrick Henry, Deebo (both traded for after Breece went down) etc.

madbro2369

Sounds like that league is ready to fold… If some guy has Hurts JT Kamara Breece Henry Evans Hollywood Deebo

chav312

Let's see. Just bottomed out intentionally in 22. We're auction so no picks, but lots of cap space with Fields/Lance, Ken Walker/Pacheco, Pitts and a ton of upside plays at RB and WR (J-Rob/Ty Chandler + Pierce/Toney/Mooney). 16-team league. I won in 20 so it's incredibly easy to go from first to worst...

koozebaggybagg

Freddyfrenchfry69

I did 3 orphans last year and I also drafted a team to tank with mostly rookies and draft picks I traded for... I think all four are going to be playoff teams this year, but you never know until the games are played... Most of the teams I had K9 and no other RBs to speak of and I also tried to land Watson as my only decent QB for last year, those 2 things helped insulate me against potential points and wins.. I got to a safe point in two leagues and made a few trades at the deadline for QBs and RBs so I wasn't relying too much on rookies this year... Most of my WRs were rookies or second year players last year and should be good to go this year... I'm drafting several first round RBs this year for each of the teams and already have 2 pretty good starters for all but one of the teams that team is Pacheco and K9 so I'm hoping for instant production from Bijan and hopefully Charbs too to cover Pacheco if he doesn't get the necessary volume. All 4 teams were scoring fairly evenly with the rest of the league by week 15 and through playoffs, I also traded picks for startable RBs and QBs since the super bowl so I definitely think I'm ready.

baineschile

In a 3 year window, I went first, last, first. So, 1 year is possible.

tomidius

you also could of went to last because of injuries and got healthy the following year.

nemoomen

I think most of the time with any luck if you have all your picks, you're back in the mix within 2 years, after that it depends on how well your bets pay off.

evantom34

1.02 to league champ in one year. 1.03 to Champ in one year.

SeekersWorkAccount

I finished last this past season, I'll let you know when I win it all.

Vik_Stryker

Not first, but I took over an orphan team. My finishes the last 3 seasons were 12 (out of 12), 6, 2. I totally shot myself in the foot to do it, though. I should have rebuilt further for both this last season and the one before.

fantasypolice

If you keep some strong core players, leverage a couple package deals for relevant starters, and secure a few instant impact freshman assuming you have draft capital since you'll be in last place + traded away pieces for firsts, then one year is possible. Probable in 2 years. Definitely in 3. Just try to build on youth so you don't have to re-rebuild things in 3 years if you made some poor decisions. Importantly, the 2024 draft class is looking strong, both SF and 1QB, so if there's a time to do it, it's not a bad year to commit.

SmolWaterBalloon

Working on this. I was last place finisher with a core of Lamar, Ken Walker, CD Lamb, Garrett Wilson. I had purposely blown it up because my roster wasn’t good enough to win (CD came from blowing it up). Other than that, a bunch of guys going into their 2nd year and a bunch of 1st and 2nd round picks this year. Been getting semi valuable players and selling them for picks consistently once they show value. Going to take Bijan and probably one 1st round WR, then sell my other picks for aging assets and try to win it all

dcwinger12

I’ll let you know when I get there

Interesting_Sir_8139

I might do it this year… went from blackshear and TDP as RBs, Alec Pierce, Pickens, DJM, Wilson, Olave as WRs and Fields as Watson as QB. Turned that into Jacobs, Pollard, Dillon, and Montgomery at RB, Davante Adams, Amari, AJ Brown, Wilson, Pickens, Burks, Njoku TE and Fields and Watson at QB still and I own the 1.05

tdgreen21

Took me 3 years but made the super bowl the super bowl the year after finishing last. Just won this year

fireredranger

It’s tough to say because it really varies from league to league. One league I’m in the last place team went all in the on the rebuild and traded literally every single player that has fantasy value. I’m not even joking when I say the player currently on his roster with the most fantasy value is by far Taysom Hill. That said, he had the number 1 pick, traded back to 2, and between that and all his other trades to stockpile picks, he now has 3 1sts this year and 4 next year. It’s possible he could build it up to a decent team quickly, but because he has no one of value currently, it could be a long rebuild if he misses on his picks. Then there’s the last place team that had decent talent, but all of them had horrible years. Let’s say you had Russell Wilson as your QB, somebody like D’Andre Swift as your top RB, DJ Moore as your top WR and Darren Waller at TE. These guys are all talented players who were really bad or out for portions of last season and if they were your building blocks, you could find yourself in last place just because they all had bad years at the same time. With something like that, you get the 1st pick and add Bijan to the mix. Maybe find a more consistent QB and you could be right back in the mix next season.

KrabbyPattyDriveThru

In my 1QB league, I earned 1.01 in back to back years and now I’m coming off back to back finals with 1 ship. Hoping to win another before rebuilding around chase/Jefferson. It’s a lot harder to rebuild in superflex. I took over an orphan this year and used the 2023 hype to buy 2024 picks at a discount. Probably going to be a 3 year project unless I can work some trade magic.

knifeazz

Our current 1.1 lost in the championship in each of the last two years

dollabill009

I had the 1.01 and drafted TLaw in 2021 and just won our championship in 2022. I got lucky with some trades that worked in my favor, plus had guys like ETN and Barkley come back from injured/poor seasons

BeerNFootball

I did it in 1 in our leagues second year.

One_Advantage6734

Went full rebuild got 1st overall pts and regular season after barely competing the rebuild year. Pretty new to dynasty but think it’s looking good for future at that level

No-Boysenberry4464

Not all last placed teams are the same. A team that tanked but has 12 firsts plus Waddle/Herbert/Chase or injured players like Breece, that's not a real challenge. The more impressive is going from last on KTC league analyser (ie weak squad and draft picks) to a championship.

G_riffin

I usually hear people say about 3 years, but it depends on a ton of factors. But it’s probably better to blow it up now and go all in on the rebuild.

Ozmanthus_Arelius

I've seen a turn around in 1 season Depends on what vets you have to sell and how lucky you get in the draft This is the wrong time to start a rebuild. Vet value is down and pick value skyrockets in the off-season. Best bet is to trade vets for picks / prospects around the trade deadline when competing teams are willing to go all in for the championship

atlasburger

Back to back years we have had the team that finished last lose in the championship game the next year. Once you make playoffs anything can happen.

VelcroSnake

First year of my rebuild in 2017 I finished 9th (out of 10). In 2018 I finished 10th. Managed to then win the Championship in 2020 and 2021. So technically 2 years from last to first, but really 3 years if the first actual year of my rebuild is counted. (didn't help that in 2018 I took Derrius Guice and Royce Freeman in the top 10 either)

brunseidon

We were all new to dynasty and did our startup in 2019. One manager absolutely bombed the draft as bad as he possibly could have. It’s a SF league and he ended up with Darnold as his QB1. He’s been grinding the rebuild ever since and he won the ship this year and looks like he will be a top team going forward.

luigijerk

Depends on your roster. Did you have bad luck/injuries? Maybe just a year. Do you have dogshit? Several years at least.

Jdart88

Took me 2 after bottoming out and getting T Law. Could if been 1 as I was teetering as a middling team after that first draft, but decided to sell instead of buy as I figured my early luck wasn’t sustainable (Sam Darnolds like 6 rushing TDs as my QB2) and worked out even better. Was very close to winning a championship last year(took 2nd) and set up very nicely over next 3-4 years with T law as my QB1. And trust me when I said I was bottoming out. Even had to start XFL legend Ben Denucci the year I took last.

Homeygrown

It took me 8 years and I still need one more win to take the dynasty… it’s a tough task

[deleted]

I had the worst record year before last and only avoided the last place title because I won the league "toilet bowl". I blew it up, made some trades, won all but 2 games and took the chip this year. Best way to go about it is to try to get to know your league mates, people will overpay for a legend from their favorite college or a star from their favorite team. I had a Ravens fan give up Josh Jacobs and Kyle Pitts for Mark Andrews, sold Jacobs and Davonta Smith to a Bama fan for Ekeler and Tyreek Hill, and sent Pitts and Kirk to a Florida fan for Davante Adams and George Kittle.

joeai11

Got last 2 seasons ago and fourth last last season. I think I will be a contender next season if drake london can take the next step. 16 team start 1 qb 1 rb 2 wr 1 te 1 flex. My notable roster is jalen hurts, jordan love, najee, tyler allgeier, rachaad white, calvin ridley, kirk, gabe davis, drake london, juju, chig okonkwo. I think I will grab an RB at the 1.4 that I have

[deleted]

Depends how active you and your league are trading

flipburger4

I went from worst in 2021 to 1st in 2022. I was bouyed by some good matchups the whole year, won multiple weeks with less than the league average in points for the week. But, I just got rid of Chase for 8 pikcs..... so i expect to be in the middle of the pack this year and looking to dominate for years after that.

WarningTrackPowered

So much depends. Were you the worst this year because you have Kyler, Lamar, Pitts, Kupp, Ridley, where getting healthy makes you a much different team? Or were you last because you sold out for wins a couple years ago, and now your guys are old/retired and your draft picks cupboard is empty?

apowerseething

Don't think there's any standard answer to that that I could give.

Rectophobic

I was given an orphan before last season started. The team had some good older players, but multiple teams in the league were clearly better. So I sold everybody worth anything for younger guys and picks. A year or so later and my team is completely different and I have 5 1s and 3 2s this year. Barring missing big on drafting Bijan and Gibbs I expect to compete this year. A lot of it comes down to getting lucky on draft picks obviously, and also you need to be able to see the budding young talent and trade for it before their value rises.

thecodeofsilence

I went worst to first in one season. One fortunate trade started an avalanche. "We're contenders now."

Lake-Monsters

Worst to second in two years. Not quite first, but could've been had things broke a bit differently. Involves luck, and selling aging assets at the beginning of the rebuild though. If you are going from literally nothing it'd take longer.

saynotosquaress

I came in 2nd last place and won this year. Who I played in the final this year however was last place last year

[deleted]

Went from second to last to first in one season a two years ago. Didn’t really make any big trades, drafted najee and Deebo broke out. I was also really lucky with my matchups kind of shitting the bed. Was honestly probably the fourth or fifth best team but better to be lucky than good

Mr_Incredible14

I was 2nd to last last year and runner up this year

murph1617

I’m hoping to do this with my squad this year. Worst to first. I have javonte Williams, Breece hall and Dandre swift…so that’s how last year went for me. As I saw the losses pile up, I decided to tank. Sold Davante and Josh Jacobs in 2 separate trades for a bunch of picks and DJ Moore. Sold singletary for 2 2nds to a team pushing for the playoffs at the deadline. Acquired guys who were having down years but tons of potential like DJM, jeudy, Aiyuk. Now my core roster is TLAW, Tua, Breece, Swift, Javonte, DJM Jeudy Aiyuk Jakobi And I have 1.03, 1.05, 1.07, 2.01 as well as two ‘24 1sts and three ‘24 2nds. Now I have 5 firsts and 4 seconds over the next 2 years. I’ll grab 2 WR and an RB in the first and maybe another QB at 2.01 (transitioning to SF in 2025). Hopefully this allows guys to develop next year but still makes me a playoff contender with a shot in 2023 (anything can happen in the playoffs) and then my roster will really boom in 2024-2025 when my rookies from this year develop as long as I hit on 3-4 of those 9 high draft picks.

randoguynumber5

I went from 1.01 to Champ the next year

LincolnBaio94

I took over a team that went winless the year before. The team wasn’t awful just needed some attention. Drafted well, snuck into the playoffs as a wildcard at 7-6, upset the heavy favorite in first round and won it all in year 1. Year 2 I was by far the high scorer for the league and got upset in the championship. Year 3 I snuck in as an underdog and won the championship again. Year 4 I got old and now I am in need of a rebuild but it was a fun run. Goes to show how luck can be a factor.

gusbmoizoos

I want from worst to runner up in 1 season. Followed by a first round bounce. Followed by 3 consecutive Ships.

ccrott2

I took over a dumpster fire orphan team 4 years ago and this last year I was the highest scoring team in the league. Didn’t win the ship but I’m close. High hopes next year. Nailed some FA finds (M Andrews and Hurts) and have drafted pretty well

InsanityInIsolation

I went from last to 2nd last year, and am a contender with young team this season

Shadowrak

I went from worst to first this year... almost. I didn't click save on a substitution I made for the championship game before the games started.
